Fun facts: as you can see from the title, the monkey's name is Wukong, also known as "Monkey King". He is a Chinese folklore creature that inspired many forms of media. For instance he is in the Chinese novel "Journey to the west", he is the one who inspired Akira Toriyama to create Dragon Ball, hence why Goku initially has a monkey tail and rides a cloud and, last but definitely not least, he's also a character in the League of Legends universe, thought all this might interest you guys😊
Didn’t know he was in League as well and such a well known character 😃🤩 our knowledge of Eastern culture is sorely lacking 😯

You gotta know that the Character of Sun Wukong and his legend which the game is based on, is very popular and loved in by the Chinesse people, just to tell You that this Monkey went into heaven and fought a lot of gods of the Chinesse Pantheon at the same time and still won every fight (Except one which was a draw) until the Buddha itself had to intervene to stop Him.
His story is truly amazing and deserving to be heard.

the stick he uses is actually one of the 4 giant pillars of the underwater dragon king's palace . He stole the pillar when he was just a young mischievous monkey. and it can grow to be as long and big as he wants it because back when it was just a pillar, the dragon king would often reduce the size of his palace to relocate it elsewhere.
He doesnt store things in his ear, but rather turns items into hair on his body. he then plucks the hair from the back of hihs head and transform them back into items, or clones of himself.

Btw, the skills Wukong has are amazing. His pole changes size at will, he has like 72 transformations ( I think) , he can ride clouds like deities, he's literally a sponge when it comes to aquiring skills and he doesn't give a damn, to the point he even ate from the fruit of the gods even though it's a taboo. He's the true chaotic neutral

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames In fact even though this skill is called "72 transformations" he can transform completely or partially (like plucking some of his hair and turning every single hair in a copy of himself) into anything he wants without any limitations (fun fact: he can turn into himself, but stronger version of himself). 72 in the name represent that the skill gives him 72 lives and since he is practically unkillable (because of few other skills and achievements), he is immortal x 72 times.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames I have no idea how many he has in the game but, according to the lore of Wukong, after he achieved immortality, his Buddho-Daoist master Subhuti warns him of three calamities sent by heaven to kill those who defy their fate and attain eternal life. The Sage then offers to teach Monkey one of two forms of transformation in order to avoid this outcome by living in hiding. The first form, called the “Multitude of the Heavenly Ladle” (Tiangang shu, 天罡數), contains thirty-six changes, while the second, the “Multitude of Earthly Fiends” (Disha shu, 地煞數), contains seventy-two. Wukong chooses the latter and quickly masters a set of secret oral formulas (koujue, 口訣). This becomes one of his signature abilities used throughout the narrative. Wukong is generally more of a trickster, less of a head-on fighter. He is a mischievous monkey after all.

Yes, he did just put it in his ear. He can enlarge or shrink his weapon. There is a show about Wukong and the journey to the west, i watch it as a kid so this is very nostalgic to me.

The story that his character was base on Journey to the west was one of my favorite show stories to listen to as a kid. It was a very well known story in our household and we used to watch shows of it together. It was always a nice story of how Buddhism had travel around and they had such a color cast. If you ever get a chance to read journey to the west, it is such an inspire story and up there like Illiad and The Odyssey by homer with Greek Mythology. The monkey king was always one of my favorite characters.

I know precious little about the actual legends of Sun Wukong, but he's a pretty huge figure in Chinese folklore from what I'm to understand. Inspired a lot of later stories and art, you can kind of think of his epic tale as similar to stuff like The Odyssey or Beowulf...very old stories of fantastical characters on wild and crazy adventures, serving as kind of a foundation for a lot of cultural conventions when it comes to storytelling and such.
The game LOOKS amazing. Truly beautifully crafted, some of the most lush and lifelike environments I've ever seen. I want to say it's coming from a relatively unknown (at least here in the Americas) Chinese studio who hasn't released a ton of info about it yet other than this trailer. I am hoping it eventually migrates its way over here with an adaptation that has English subtitles. I get the impression this is one of those stories that just NEEDS to be in its native language though, so a full English dub feels inappropriate IMO.
Definitely something to keep an eye on. There was another game that got a similar little unveiling recently, at least similar in terms of kind of sneaking up on us from a less renowned Chinese studio. Can't remember exactly what it was called, something like...Featherfall? It had to do with feathers lol. Main title, followed by a subtitle having to do with feathers. Had a distinctly Soulslike style to it featuring a female protagonist, set in the Ming Dynasty. China is definitely bringing it with the quiet development of some really promising titles, though.
With so many game development companies being Japanese, we get a pretty solid representation of Japanese styles and cultural offerings in gaming...it's really neat to see China joining the party and bringing some of their own incredibly rich history of mythology and cultural tales. Wuxia epics (at least the really famous ones) are some of my favorite films, so games that are built like THAT would be incredible.

Hey thanks for reacting to my suggestion. The trailers that they have released so far aren't telling much about the story, they're more so to let everyone see what they are working on. Like many people said, all we know is that it is based on Journey to the West, which inspired Dragon Ball and influenced nearly every major anime. There are two more trailers that they released to show their progression. This game looks amazing and I actually want to wait for it so they can take their time and fully craft it into a masterpiece.

Sun wukong the god killer challenged and defeated over 500 thousand pantheons of gods. He's immortal through Taoist practices, drank tons of heavenly wine , ate pills and peaches of immortality also he erased his name from the book of mortals. He has 72 transformations he can even create clones of himself with a single strand of his hair which in turn those clones can transform into anything

Son Wukong is a based on the story Journey to the West. Think of that story similar to the Odyssey, influence to the West. Where it's a very well known myth that influenced ALL of Asia. One key thing about that story is the multiple lessons taught to the Monkey King. He is constantly humbled and similar to the Icarus story, where he flew to high to the Sun. In this case thought he was like the Gods and challenged them, fell down to ruin and had to climb back up to surpass where he was.

The game is inspired on a old chinese book call journey to the west, in this book you read the story of sun wukong, the monkey king and is quest to take the sacred scroll of Buddha with the help of 4 companion. But, in the game, you dont really play sun wukong, but one of is clone, in the video the real wukong is the one with the golden armor. I simplified all this because english is not my first language and it will take to much time to explain everything :)

Sun Wukong - The Handsome Monkey King, the legendary Heaven's equal Great Sage :))) He even beat whole heavenly army (you could see him fighting them on clouds), scare the shit out of Great Jade Emperor (The Ruler of Heaven in Chinese's myth), made The Emperor have to call for help to Buddha. Buddha came and defeated that monkey, imprisoned him for 500 years under the mountain, told him to waited for Tang Sanzang come to free him, and protect Tang Sanzang go to the West to get the Buddhist Sutras

In the novel journey to the west, after being trap in a mountain by the buddha for 500 years sun wukong is freed from the mountain to accompany a monk to the west in order to get a signature from buddha (I think). When wukong had a bad behavior, the monk would recite a prayer and the crown on his head would start to shrink and hurt him.

KEN AND BETHANY, this game is being produced by a producer in China called GAME SCIENCE. At the time of this first trailer there were only 20 people working on this game (there are 2 more trailers to see) The other trailers are just as good as the one you've seen and reacted to, but the music in this trailer is wonderful. Thousands of people have reacted to this and the other 3 videos and really want to play, but the game will only be released in 2023.

So when I first saw this video I thought we the layer was the Monkey King until near the end when the second Monkey shows up, but I believe this is based on the Monkey King legend?

WOW, im assuming the monkey is the rising of the Monkey King, Sun Wukong, im glad they kept all of his Mischievous behavior as in mimicking an enemy ( when he turned into the wolf glaive master ) and his hair clones, which the detail was just amazing, I hadn't seen the trailer to this yet, but damn, cant wait to play it.

I can't wait to play this game. But this trailer was a little bit old because it turn in the 3D engine Unreal Engine 4. A new trailer running with the new 3D Engine, Unreal Engine 5 was out and it's a really punch in the face that we received. So gorgeous game.

Sorry if you've done this already, but if you haven't please react to Last Stand of the Gunslinger, from the destiny 2 forsaken dlc. So i'm not a guru when it comes to chinese lore but the game is based on the legendary Sun Wukong or the Monkey King and his adventures, mainly "Journey to the West". Sun Wukong is a very powerful almost god level deity that is very similar to Loki in the fact he likes to cause a lot of mischief but overall he is a good guy. There is actually a character named wukong in league of legends that is based on Sun Wukong. The abilities that u see in the game are very accurate lore wise as Wukong is capable of some 84,000 transformations and he does ride a cloud(Nimbus Cloud). He also uses a magical staff that can change it's length dramatically and he is a very agile fighter. There is a second trailer to this game which looks even better.....so maybe react to it if u can.

So, the cool thing about this game is that it's not a big budget game, it's a small studio from Japan ( I think) but it obviously plays and looks better than 99% of the trash games that release these days.
