I have the exact same bike and was looking for a video showing rear brake replacement and found this great job showing how it’s done, thanks
I hope the video helps, not really happy with the Honda rear brakes you may want to consider rear disk conversion. If I have time this year I may do the same.
Great video, my rear brakes haven't worked for years, use it on the farm for work but I need the parking brake to be working again, so I'm going to tear it apart. Thanks from Canada
Thanks for the kind words!
Thanks for the vid. Nice detail. I’m changing both the front and rear pads on my Foreman this afternoon.
Happy Wheeling
I'm glad you liked the video! Good luck on the maintenance and Happy wheelin to you as well
I am in Montana. I think your video was informative and has definitely given me some insight. I’m doing the rear brakes on a friends machine for her. She runs tracks all winter so come summer she needs new wheels bearings and some other tlc but this year the rear brake foot pedal doesn’t move right and the rear brakes don’t work at all. Thanks for spending the time to make the video, it gave a me great gage to know how long this project will take. Also, if you can, find a camera person. That’s the only real “advice “ on the video, it’s good and shows what it needs to already. I’m sure you’ve thought of it already, so thanks and keep doing what your doing. I, at the very least, appreciate it very much.
Montana what a beautiful state, thanks for the feedback. To be perfectly honest you may want to consider swapping to disk brakes in the rear I have yet to do this yet but I'm not very happy with the amount of adjustment required to keep the drums working.
Thank you for putting up this video. I am sure I will reference it a few times. I am from East Kootnay's British Columbia Canada. Thank you again! Cheers.
Welcome I'd love to ride up in Canada some day, glad you liked the video and thank you for commenting 🙏
@@thecitiots No prob! I am replacing the hand cable, Pads, orings, cotter pins, bearing and seal for the brake pad housing. I managed to get it all apart thanks to your video. So far it went pretty smooth. Hopefully getting it back together and working as it should won't be too bad. Again thanks to your vid. There is class A riding up here in the Canadian Rockies. July, August, September is the months to plan for up here. Cheers!
Enjoyed the video. Good to see problems I may run into prior to repair. Thanks.
Glad you liked the video! Thanks for the feedback.
Just bought a used 2016 foreman and same thing no parking brake and no foot brake hopefully tear into it this weekend found your video very informative
Congratulations on your new machine! Get her fixed before riding season starts.
Just found this video, I'm a bit late lol! But I hit the thumbs up and subscribed. I like how calm you are in your videos
Thanks Anthony, crap day at work and you made me smile. Thank you for the feedback!
@@thecitiots Hey you're welcome man! Hope your day shapes up to be better! Where are you from if you don't mind me asking
I'm smiling now thanks to you, I live outside Minneapolis / st. Paul just far enough from those cities to feel somewhat safe.
@@thecitiots nice, I'm from Virginia. Southwestern
Awesome, if you every get out this way I recommend wheelin at nemadji or spider lake. Both are an awesome time. 🕷️ Is better.
just about to tackle this job on my trx500fe. Thanks for this. Im in Scotland by the way since you ask.
Hope the video helps Scotland sound fun how's the riding there?
Yes good. Not had much time for fun. Working in the woods hauling logs and machines around so brakes need to work real good! 4x4 won't engage now. Hey ho. Such is life.
@@benlarmour5363 I hear ya love hate relationship with machines, I have to rebuild my front end soon. Riding season is coming soon if the weather ever warms up.
Good video. Thanks.
You said the seal is good though. Why did you have so much water in the brakes?
Thanks I appreciate it 🙏, the water in the drum thought on that is hot metal and cooler water/mud will cause the drum to suck water in. Same concept of towing your boat trailer and when you put that hot drum assembly in the water it slips by.
You can use silicone to help keep the seal supple.
Ireland. Thanks for the brake info need to sort mine trx420 👍
Awesome to see this reaching Ireland, I wish you luck, get that machine back in the dirt!
Having the same problem with my 2014. May have to replace the cable as well as the brakes. Both of your videos will be useful when I decide to dig into it. Thanks for posting (USA)
Glad you liked them, thanks for sharing location. Let me know if you have questions, bit frustrating the brakes stop working when half used.
Good video. Thanks for showing the details. Keep making some videos
Thanks for watching, I appreciate the encouragement.
Great video btw. You have more patience than I do.
Thanks I appreciate the feedback as for patience that came with age 25 years ago I would have been throwing tools. 😎
straight to the point no BS explanation great job (Canada)
Thanks Don hope the video helps!
Thats one tight rear end ya got there.
Thanks hoss
Great video cheers, viewing from the uk
Thanks for watching nice to have viewers in the UK. Hope you get your brakes sorted out!
Very helpful video. Thanks.
I love the comments thank you! Glad you liked the video!
Really helpful video in Connecticut. Just got a 2019 foreman 500 that was used by the fish game and wild life people. It's corroded to hell from salt water use. So as you can imagine I'm rebuilding everything
If you haven't started you may want to consider disc conversion I plan to do one next year.
@@thecitiots ok ill look into it thanks for the heads up.
I gave up on the Honda brakes and put disc brakes front and back and have never regretted it.
Awesome how long ago did you do that?
Rear brake last year. Front brakes about 10 years ago.
@@calvinhenderson4200 thanks for the feedback have been on the fence about them maybe I'll order the parts and do it after hunting.
Do the front first is my recommendation.
@@calvinhenderson4200 my foreman has rotors from Honda up front but I'll do that on the 300 when it's time that's for the advice 😎
Do you have a part number for those brake shoes?
06430-HN2-000, i updated the description as well and i show them @ 20:16 in the video.
If you pull drain plug and water comes out it means you need to replace the drum cover seals regardless
Good to know thanks for helping us out 👍
Replaced brake shoes on rubicon 500 with the same part number as you used but can't get drum over them.
Do the Rubicon have the same brake part numbers? My 2013 and 15 foreman's are different.
@@thecitiots I am having the same issue. drum won't fit over the new pads. I believe you mentioned having to beat your drum on. did I hear that correctly? Just wondering if I should go grab a hammer and make it happen. Also, thanks for the vid. very helpful.
@@ronwest5133 hammer you run the risk of chipping the pad if you're going to use one be careful. Sometimes spinning the drum and pushing helps.
Really helpful. USA 🇺🇸
Awesome glad it was helpful and thanks for checking in hope you're doing some riding this weekend
Yours looks good mine is rusted up and cables too. I'm gonna end up new lines new pads new pad plate and new brake lever on the drum...may be cheaper to do the disc upgrade for 3 to 400
I was considering the same since the drums don't seem to work that well long term. Keep us in mind if you do the swap interested in your experience with them.
When measuring liner thickness I think you meant 1/2 Centimeter instead of 1/2 millimeter at 21:00. Other wise great, informative video. Thanks for posting.
I think you're right, thanks for the correction. Am I providing too much detail and or should I try to provide the same detail in a shorter video?
Very informative,,,Canada
Thank you for the feedback,👍 I hope your riding isn't impacted by the fires thanks for checking in
From Florida. Attempted to put new rear brake shoes on my 2002 TRX500FA today and they seemed to be too big diameter wise to get the drum over them. I had the cables disconnected and it still didn’t fit over them.
Did the size of the new shoes match up with the old ones? Did you buy Honda or after market?
@@thecitiots I had the same problem and I'm just forcing it on
@@509sleepy8 good to know thanks for the insight 😎
@@thecitiots and it did not work and I tried everything so I'm going to get some oem ones for a local shot
What do you do if they get seized up and locks completely? Mine keep seizing up and locking the bike up
Are they seized up from sitting too long and rusted? Or from something else?
I think they are sticking one of the cables seems is super tight and no matter how much I back the wing nut off it still locks back up after pressing it once.@@thecitiots
@@michaellyda7460 I would check the position of the brake lever on the cam that goes into the drum. I've also had logs grab one of the cables and stretch it out while riding so no matter what you do you can't seem to get both hand and foot brake to adjust. Did you buy this new or second hand?
Watched this video and replaced the brakes on my 500 foreman. Still won't stop. I can adjust them enough that it kinda drags and still won't stop the 4 wheeler. Only barely slows it down. Won't hold on a hill. Have to use the front brakes to stop it
How did the drum look? Lots of wear or barely any?
@@thecitiots I don't really know. I'm not sure what it would look like it good shape. The brake pads were definitely worn but the new ones made absolutely no difference at all
@Derek Driver two things I can think of your drum is out if spec or they sent the wrong brake shoes. Also was there a lip on the drum indicating wear?
I have a problem the brake arm is like stuck it pull forward but does not pull back and i just put new brake shoes
Is the brake arm in the stock position on the cam?
Excellent video!
Hey thanks glad you liked it, I appreciate the feedback!
@@thecitiots what year model is that foreman?
@@todddmannn the camo one is a 2013 I have a green one as well in other videos that is a 2015.
is it normal when I’m driving about 40 mph and I try to stop with my back brakes and it doesn’t stop right away it like slides for like 3 seconds before stoping is that normal btw I have a Honda rubicon 500
I'd say you're doing pretty well 🙂
Nice video
Thanks I'm glad you liked it, thanks for commenting!
Useful video thanks (UK)
Glad you liked it, thanks for commenting!
helpful videos man thanks
Glad you liked it, thanks for the feedback!
12:20 I jumped so high!! Scared the living crap out of me.
Oh funny I thought the camera was going over
we’re the brake engages mine it like welded with rust😭 IT WANT MOVE
You got that with some penetrating oil?
decent video ... kudos
Awesome thanks for the feedback, in your opinion is there something I can do to transition from decent video to good or great video?
Nice video man
I'm glad you liked it thanks for the feedback!
@@thecitiots I have an 08 model I believe I broke a spring inside. Hopefully can tear it down this weekend.
They are great machines, let me know if you learn anything interesting.
Thanks bro
Happy to help 👍
Thanks
Hope this video helps you! I appreciate the comment👍
uk,thanks
Thanks for checking from across the pond I hope the video helps
Those drum brakes are SEALED says Honda...I love Honda Atvs However these drum brakes gotta go...Have NEVER seen them work for more than a month after purchase..Its better to just buy a disc brake conversion...
I'm totally with you, contemplating doing that myself
looked like diff fluid in the drums
That would be clay soup of the north, could be some gear oil in there too. Thanks for watching!
You need a $100 Electric Pressure Washer.
Would so like to get an electric one inside the garage with a 100 foot hose.
Upgrade to rear disc. Honda should have disc all the way around from the factory.
Did you do hydraulic?
@@thecitiots not yet. In the process of rebuilding a 1995 Foreman 400.
'Merica!!!
Yeah buddy!
New Zealand
Very cool, how's the riding there?
Hey obviously it's not only every inch that counts,,,, it's down to every MM. SO MAYBE LUCK IS ON MY SIDE😂
These can be a pain, luck and the Internet is on your side.
Canada
Thanks for checking in 🤘
Could have been more specific on how you adjust the brakes but great video otherwise.
Hey thanks for the feedback I really appreciate it 🙏
