Idris Elba would be perfect Roland
In my beloved franchise, Roland is 5'11" tall and 217 pounds. While he spends the final iterations of Borderlands as possibly the least comedic character in the franchise. Kevin Hart is 5'4" (rumored to actually be 5'2") and weighs in at 144 pounds. Whoever chose him as Roland blew this choice. Mr.Donkeypoo should have done the casting.

As a big fan of Borderlands, it hurts to say I'm sure this movie is going to be trash. Video game movies are notoriously bad, so there's no real hope it'll be good, but I'm curious why they made such terrible decisions. Who is this movie for? Cuz its not for the fans.
Few succeded like Sonic 1 and 2 or Mario. Recent Dungeons and Dragons or even Halo tv series were also pretty good . I may agree with since Eli Roth is the main producer (terrible choice) but I will give this movie a try maybe it will turn out to be at least fine 😒. It would be way better if they did an animated tv show with VA cast from games .
@kitajecafrica5814 An animated BL series is a solid idea. Bringing the voice actors back and giving it the same cell shaded look as the games would be a good move, and they'd be able to do so much more with it than they could in live action.
As for the movie itself, if I'm being honest I'm probably going to be there opening weekend, but I'll go into it expecting to be disappointed. There's always hope, but I have yet to hear something about it that got me excited.
I remember the first time I heard they wanted Kevin Hart to play Roland. I legit thought it was a joke.
it's made for people who liked Borderlands 3, the people who liked Ava, and the crying soyjaks on Twitter who screech for new female-led movies and determine what a good movie is based on what sex the main actor is

@YouraPinner none of them are, and that's weird. You'd think if the story is already there, the characters are fleshed out, and the world is built then most of the heavy lifting would be done.
Kevin Hart as Roland really, They could’ve went with Yahya Abdul-Mateen who played Black Manta in Aquaman. He fits the character perfectly compared to Hart. I know borderlands is funny and has comedic moments but really.

My idea for roland was Aldis Hodge (i was picturing his look from jack reacher: never go back) but Yahya would work really well too

Unfortunately, this sounds and feels like a disaster. The casting was awkward from day 1--Roland was never comedic, Lilith was not menopause age, and no Handsome Jack...what were they thinking?
Roland also looked about 6'4". Kevin Hart is 5'2".
I've heard about 20-somethings playing teenagers, but now they're having 50 to 60 year old women play women in their 20s? Jesus. Women fr delusional think they can pass in a role less than half their age.

So they had a franchise known for having good humor, well written characters including strong women. Also a easy to follow story since it isnt too complex that can lead into 2s plot and just did none of it, awesome!!!

Okay first off, sirens are born with the powers.
Second off, the casting legit blows. Borderlands has comedic value, but Roland was not a comedian. Clearly whoever is writing the script has no idea about the universe or its lore.
Just so you know, sirens are born with their powers and not after coming into contact with eridian technology. Eridium does enhance their powers but they have the powers without it. Also, Rhys is NOT the atlas CEO in this timeline, as krom and Knox are dead long before Rhys takes over atlas. Then again, Tina was like 4 when krom died so who's to say
They actually aren't born with their powers, they can get them at any age when the previous siren dies.
@@cimarrondrive I suppose I should've clarified that they're born as a siren, not necessarily with their powers. Every siren is born a siren, but they don't get powers or the markings until another siren dies. This is how Maya knew who would be a siren in the future

If any actor in the movie's name would be used for sales its Jack black not kevin heart Jack black is a much bigger actor and is a far better actor than kevin heart could even dream to be

No Handsome Jack is a mistake...unless there are plans for a sequel already and Jack is the plan for the main villain going forward.
There's more to the series than just Jack, you know. Also, he's 100% going to be the post-credits cameo bait for a sequel. They have no chance of getting a sequel otherwise.

Not just the god awful casting, but the production being all over the place passed around like a hot potato, like everyone who got it knew it was going to be a flop. Yep, this is a quick and dirty cash grab (as if there was ever any doubt). Guarantee there are/will be better live action fan adaptations on shoestring budgets.
It's too bad between Borderlands 3, the dumpster fire that was New Tales and this final nail in the coffin, we have to let go of another beloved series ruined by greed

Why replace ClapTrap’s voice with Jack Black? Maybe Black can do Justice to the character, but……
Professor Tannis is an incredibly tragic, manic, irritating, kinda hot scientist with incredible depth that makes you despise/love/empathize at the same time. 65 Yr old Jamie Lee Curtis never had the range to portray this kind of depth.
With BL production schedule and chaos, I’m thinking this will be a disaster. I want it to be great and bring its fun atmosphere to a broader audience.
Like I needed more reason to not see this movie.
Krieg was never tiny Tina's protector...... already they messed up the story. Krieg doesn't come into the story till the second game with Maya. Brick becomes Tina's protector later on. They already screwed us on this......

also while we are all talking about how bad the casting choices are and how the story sounds like it will be nothing like the games... I think the biggest mistake is getting Eli Roth as the director... such a mismatch imo... James Gunn would have been a much better choice

I aboustely loved playing as her even if she wasnt a main 4 character but she was a character you got like Kraig so why mention him and not her? Plus the voice actors for Tiny Tina and Gage even said that their best friends since their the youngest characters compared to the rest of them

Yeah but, timeline wise, if their sticking to source material, we don't even know where krieg was at this time, and Tina would be like 4, her parents were probably still alive at this time. Krieg would also have more sanity because he never got tested on by hyperion yet.

B) But if it had to be live action...Better Casting: Roland - Terry Crews (without the humor) Tiny Tina - anyone smaller, funnier, who looks like her and sounds like her. Mordecai - First you'd have to be smart enough to put him in the movie. But DJ Qualls could look the part. Tannis - Not an old lady. (I love her, but this was bad casting) Claptrap - David Eddings (Why the F would you use Jack, when the genuine guy only has to voice the character?????)

What a disaster! This thing was doomed to fail from the beginning. The fun of Borderlands is not watching, it's playing! The people in charge are clearly idiots.
They have one chance to get this right, but as with most game converted movie scenarios... it will flop like a man who suffers from brewers droop.
As long as they stay in universe, it's already leagues above Monster Hunter: The Movie, and similarly the 90s Super Mario Bros. movie

1 Lilith she is it not that old she is in fact still very young
2 though Roland was hilarious during the first game he is better know by fans as the serious leader of the crimson raiders not willing to take any chances in the second game Kevin heart is not only the wrong hight but just the wrong actor in general Kevin is know for being short with an albeit grating voice
3 Tanis while being insane some would argue senile IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THAT OLD
4 where are brick, mordici and (assuming this is in the past considering roland is alive) bloodwing (rest in pice)
5 while jack black is an ok actor for some things he is by no means claptrap claptrap is known primarily for his voice actor the zany annoying at times voice he has
And last but not least I already have some griped with the games that have been turned into movies with naughty dog it was uncharted first then the last of us tv show and while I enjoyed the uncharted movie the last of us tv show was in my personal opinion not needed now 2k is selling borderlands?!??! And this movie adaptation may fully ruin the series for some viewers I honestly hope it's a flop worse than any of the straight to video Disney sequels justso they don't make a sequel and ruin the series more

Idris Elba as Roland, because he already played Roland Deschain.
Scarlett Johansson as Lilith, because of her portrayal in Lucy.
Dwayne Johnson as Brick, because he's the "Rock".
Adrien Brody as Mordecai, because of his portrayal in Predators.
Cate Blanchett as Commandant Steele, because she's Galadriel/Hela.
Borderlands 2
Jason Statham as Axton, because I wanna see him throw an axe instead of knives, and would love to see him refer to his turret as his wife.
Anya Taylor-Joy as Maya, because of her portrayal in Magik.
Raymond Cruz as Salvador, because I wanna see Tuco Salamanca Gunzerk.
Scott Adkins as Zer0, because of his portrayal in Ninja.
Tom Cruise as Handsome Jack, because he's Les Grossman.
You lost me at Handsome Jack.
We need some comedic yet narcissistic personality. Like Antony Starr as Homelander except a bit more witty character like Jack is.
Wow, I never thought of Homelander. Antony Starr is a great pick as well (I love The Boys) since he looks younger for the role than Cruise. I keep forgetting Tropic Thunder was 16 years ago lols.
Live action feels like it would lose the sheer chaos and mania that we love about the games. Not to mention the loot... Also, the whole production unfolded like a gigante fustercluck. I don't have any expectations

Player - Iv spend hundreds of hours playing each edition of the game, there is so much content and characters.
Hollywood - Lets mix and mach characters and story arcs from all the editions into a two hour film.
Me - Borderlands film, mmm, you should keep the story simple and focus only on a few characters. If successful, each edition of the game could serve as guide for a full season of episodes.

Rys isn’t ceo until tales which is after bl2 which means roland and rys cant be in the same movie, and if knoxx is there then it way before rys even gets to pandora. The movie is probably gonna be roland and liliths live story and then they meet tina after maya drops kreig off or something but then how is knoxx there unless its his daughter out for revenge and knoxx works for atlas… wait the movie is just atlas’s fall before jack buys it, man this character lineup is confusing… mainly how knoxx and kreig/tina are both in it

Nope. Claptrap was voiced by David Eddings in the first four Borderlands games, but was replaced by Jim Foronda since Borderlands 2 VR following a public falling-out between Eddings and Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford.
So, they decide to insert Borderlands 2 characters, but not Handsome Jack (or But Stallion)?
