- Randy Pitchford, Gearbox founder and the film’s executive producer, points out all the Easter eggs and game references in the first trailer for the Eli Roth-directed screen adaptation of Borderlands.
Directed by Eli Roth, Borderlands is based on the video games created by Gearbox Software and published by 2K. The film stars Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Edgar Ramírez, Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu, Gina Gershon, and Jamie Lee Curtis.
Lilith (Blanchett), an infamous treasure hunter with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of Atlas (Ramírez), the universe’s most powerful S.O.B. She forms an unexpected alliance with a ragtag team of misfits - Roland (Hart), once a highly respected soldier, but now desperate for redemption; Tiny Tina (Greenblatt), a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg (Munteanu), Tina’s musclebound, rhetorically challenged protector; Tannis (Curtis), the scientist who’s seen it all; and Claptrap (Black), a persistently wiseass robot.
These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect the missing girl, who may hold the key to unimaginable power. The fate of the universe could be in their hands - but they’ll be fighting for something more: each other.
Lionsgate presents, in association with Media Capital Technologies, an Arad / Picturestart production, a Gearbox Studios / 2K production. Lionsgate will release Borderlands in the U.S. on August 9, 2024.

Problems:
1. Tiny Tina and Krieg didn't exist yet. Krieg didn't turn psycho until Hyperion took over pandora
2. Lilith is too old and missing her siren tattoos
3. Tannis is too old
4. Stingrays don't exist on Pandora, bandits used buzzards for air travel/air support instead
5. They used Rhys' Atlas uniforms (Which didnt exist yet) instead of the OG ones. Atlas didn't have stingrays either as that was Dahl technology, They flew around on jetpacks and small rockets.
6. Brick and Mordecai are missing even though they are first wave vault hunters
7. Roland is too short and too skinny and is wearing the wrong armor. He's supposed to wear pale green Crimson Lance armor

The production designers and costuming did their jobs PERFECTLY. It's just a shame the Director and Casting departments did not.

This video single handedly tells me that Randy Pitchford has the sense of humor of a 3 year old.
The jokes in Borderlands games are not ironic, they're simply as dumb as they seem. This changes everything for me.
When they kicked their writer it's real apparent with Borderlands 3 how clueless the new writers. This movie is an extension of that.

If we ignore that Lilith is 30 years older, what was the lore/story/practical/design thought process of removing blue tattoos? Isn't that part of being a siren?
The thought process is they probably didn't want to bother doing the makeup throughout the shoot.

Like the age they are showing Tiny Tina at implies this is at least Borderlands 2 time frame so maybe not Moze, Zane, Amara and Fl4k but everyone else should be around. They have Krieg in the movie for gods sakes he's from BL2.

I'm guessing the amount of money it would have taken in make-up time wasn't in the budget. Which isn't really that big for a movie of this type.

It's already been confirmed the movie is it's own entity. The characters will appear different, since they're not canon to the games.
Also some major plot points aren't going to be in this first movie adaption of Borderlands.

This is so inconsistent because Atlas was not in the second game they became the Crimson Raiders and if they weren’t that they were wondering bandits. Why is Krieg there? And why are they using the older tiny Tina model

Kevin Hart would've made a better Salvador than Roland.
Cate Blanchett looks the part at least regarding dress style & hair. The least they could have done was give Jamie-lee Curtus black hair similar to that of Tanis. Terry Crews would have been a better choice for Roland IMO, as he already looked the part in the Expendables movies.
