On one of my visits to Portugal I commented to a restaurant owner that he could make a ton of money by remaining open in August when everyone's on vacation and not likely to eat at home. His answer: Well, we need to vacation with our family too! Gotta love it!
I love this video! I am an African American woman living in the Netherlands and I love it as well! It's an awesome country with awesome people and lifestyle. The world and its many cultures are meant to be seen, traveled and experienced. I wish this for every soul, that they are able to see life outside of the surroundings they were born and raised in. Just two commentaries: One: Yes, we kiss a lot, but we don't often do hugs like Americans. Our kiss culture is very similar to Spain and Italy. Two: About the medical school: Yes is six years after high school, but to go to a medical school in the national exams, students have to achieve 19 out of 20 points, and after the initial six years, they have one year of practices in a hospital and then more two or three years for specialization. I love your videos. Cheers

Here in Portugal you go to med school right after high school for 6 years and then there's a one year general residency. But if you want to become a specialised doctor (cardiologist, pediatrician, family physician...) you need to do an extra residency for 4-6 years. So, in the end, the time that takes to become a specialised doctor is very similar to the USA (approximately 12 years).

Love your channel and all the information you share. I was born in Portugal and moved to the US at the age of 9. I’m from the North part of Portugal, but my goal is to purchase something more towards the center of Portugal in the next 3 years and live in Portugal most of the time. I won’t be 39 like you, but hey at 51 that’s still young to retire by US standards. 😂😁☺️🤗
Nice video y’all. One thing I observed in Portugal (and most European countries) are the plazas or “squares” that serve as a gathering spot for big events like the Olympics or World Cup. It’s a great way to build unity and it’s something American cities should have tried to duplicate…that plus walkable and bikeable infrastructure.
You guys swapped USA to Portugal, and l swapped Portugal to USA, but l miss Portugal a lot. I love this country and the Portuguese way of life. By the way I am from Brazil. Thank you for your videos. God bless your Family!
My father was Sicilian but born in the USA. He kissed everyone! He lived in California most of his life, and the people here loved his kisses, even men would get a hug and kiss on cheek! I miss him terribly.
This video just contains more and more reasons to love Portugal. The ATM bill pay is really convenient and those lunch specials and the price is unbelievable.
Now you don't even need to use the ATMs, you just have to use the APP of the banks and it has all the functions of the ATMs, you just can't withdraw or deposit money. I practically haven't been in my bank for months
@@OurRichJourney I’m thinking about moving to the UK or France…please tell me the mistake of doing this. Why didn’t you guys choose UK or France over Portugal?
@@BlakeTedKord if I may, I think in one of their older videos they addressed this. Overall, Portugal is one of the most affordable European destinations, and it also ranks among the highest in the world for safety and medical care. Many Portuguese speak at least some English, so communication is manageable from the get go. I hope this helps.
@@BlakeTedKord 1°) Portugal is considered the California of Europe, because it has a climate similar to many sunny days, especially in the south it has 300 sunny days a year. As residents, they have unrestricted access to all European Union countries, no passport required, low cost of living by US standards, virtually the entire population speaks English. The UK, on the other hand, no longer belongs to the EU, and travel within the EU, only with a passport, and can only be 90 days out of 180. France has a climate like the UK. I could list several advantages, but these are the most obvious.
Amon and Christina, I wanted to follow up after meeting you two (hopefully not an intrusion :-) in the Colombo mall on Thursday. As I said in person, you guys played a major role in our move to Portugal - now here for 3 weeks. We appreciate all of the efforts you guys put forth to inform and educate. I am sure you get lunch and dinner offers all of the time, but my wife and I would be honored to take your guys out to your favorite restaurant in a show of appreciation. Sincerely, you are making the world a better place and we extend our deepest gratitude! Signed, Richard & Christie Peterson
Medical.school after high school is common in many European and Asian countries. Only in UsA it is a graduate program. Love that fruit is available in season only. I cannot wait to go to portugal again.
Well done guys. My wife and I have reached financial independence and are looking forward to spending months at a time in each of the European countries as we retire early. I appreciate you guys sharing your adventures with us.
Happy Father's Day Christina & Amon! I love how other cultures outside of the U.S. focus on fresh food - especially fruits and vegetables. And these little nuggets you two are sharing mean a lot. How cool it is that everyone incorporates time off in August and go to an ATM to pay bills?! Wow!
Awesome video! I could relate to most of it being a Brazilian ; we inherited the stones and the kisses♡ Thank you for fun moments with you ! God bless!
Have you heard of the Camino Portuguese? It’s a walking pilgrimage starting somewhere near Lisbon to Santiago, Spain. It’s quite an amazing journey that you and your daughters may love. It will take anywhere from 30 - 40 days to complete. Check it out!
Im portuguese, and thank you for staying in portugal, to be honest y do like foreign people. And to be like one of us. One of most y like in Portugal, is that we have many cultures, african, chinese, etc… dont mind, because in the end of the day we all live well with each other
I live in Austin, TX but just got back from a little over 2 weeks in Portugal, mostly in Lisbon and a couple of days down the Costa Vicentina. The two things off the top of my head that surprised me were not being able to find alternative milk in many cafes and coffee shops and also how fast people drive even on the narrow city streets. Love your channel! Thanks for all you do!
Happy Father’s Day, Iman! Love your cheesy dad jokes. Christina is so sweet and loving with you ♥️ Beautiful couple. Thank you for making this wonderful and wholesome content.
I am from Africa and some of the surprises you mentioned, such as the kisses and the Sundays extended family gathering apply there too. I have been to Portugal and it is a great place to live, very rich in culture
Amon and Christina, you guys are giving me more reasons to visit and possibly move to Portugal. I am already rooting for them in Euro 2020! Thank you for the video!
Thank you so much for posting videos related to FIRE. You both have changed my life forever. LUV each and every videos you post. I have seen 10 stages of FIRE , like 30 times :) no words to express how much your videos have inspired me. Luv you guys so much for taking the effort to help others to achieve FIRE.
It's a sweet way to listen someone from other countries sharing their experiences. The more i travel, the more i love to be in Portugal. I surprised myself few days ago (i guess never did that before) walking almost 20km up and down through my Lisbon city hills an all day long and found so many beautiful corners. Nothing is perfect anywhere, but anyway, welcome to this tiny "still" little european pearl. All the best for you guys!
Loved your video 😊😊 I just have to say: OMG yes the cobblestnones! Be aware 😂😂 If you're visiting bring comfy (preferably sneakers) shoes because those are hella dangerous if it has rained. As a Portuguese that has almost feel multiple times I can't imagine someone who's visiting for the 1st time reaction.
I am so excited to move to Portugal some day for the food and kisses lol ! Thank you all so much for the inspiration 😁btw, do you all ever miss family and friends back in the US? How often do yall travel back for visits? This is my only reservation in moving across the waters. 😩
Wow guys, I have never seen your channel before but this was really well done. The two of you are great; what a beautiful family❣️ I am not aware of your financial path to abundance either but congratulations, how awesome for you to be able to be experiencing such an amazing life. I have been curious about Portugal. I decided to see what others had to say. This was lovely. Thank you for sharing your precious family with us🥰🙏🏻🌸
I love how each video you share is so accessible. They are short and yet still packed with so much information. You always leave me looking forward to your next one. And now there is a secret! Thanks for sharing with us *virtual kisses/elbow bumps*
Love, LOVE this!! Soooo inspirational and so pleasantly different from here in the US. I've noticed a lot of people from, not only the US moving there, but from other parts of Europe as well. Must visit there soon and see what all the hype is about myself! 😂😂😎👍🏼✌🏽❤❤
I'm so happy for you guys. I guess you can't really be proud of somebody you don't know so I'll say I'm proud FOR you. I lived overseas for two different years. Nothing can replace the rich education that one receives through immersion in a foreign, (and maybe non-English-speaking) culture. Looking forward to more videos and I'm super happy for your kids. My son did just fine and Spanish turned from his second language into his first language practically overnight.
The way people drive surprises me in Portugal, they drive so fast and even many times pass the zebra crossing when it's time for pedestrians to cross hahaha
In July and August, many people take vacation days simply to participate in local events, food fairs, medieval fairs, sporting events, popular festivals, concerts, summer festivals, beach music festivals at night, recreations battle histories. Every town (municipality) has its events, it is often difficult to choose where to go because it coincides at the same time. There are places that have wine festivals, usually in September when the harvest takes place, and the most interesting thing is that there is always traditional food in taverns.
I loved your video. It's really interesting to see your perspective about our beautiful country. But I have to tell you, about medical school, to study medicne, just as in the USA, the students have to have really good grades in high scool, then they do national exams, and then they get acepted in university based on their grades. The ones with better grades get in. After 6 years in university, they start to work in a hospital doing their residency. The first year is the commom year. They rotate around specialties and choose the one they want to pursue. Then they still have a minimum of 4 years to became doctor of wich specialty they chose. the number of year varies according to the chosen area.
Growing up in the us in the 70s & 80s I remember I looked forward to summer because that is when all of the cool fruits were in the grocery stores, plums, peaches, etc...
Thank you for your content! I had a couple of questions if you don’t mind: 1. Are you the only ones running your content going? I mean, do you get some help with editing/filming etc.? 2. Who takes the beautiful family photos of you in Portugal? It looks stunning and professional. 3. You are dressed really nice and seems to even be color coordinated. Do you buy new clothes or do you buy second hand? What is your budget for clothing? 4. I’d love to see a video on what you spend on a month these days. Thank you so much and keep on with the great work! 👏🏼👏🏼
Your channel along with a few others really helped us in our process of deciding where to go to reset, rebuild and redefine our lives. We received our Portugal visas 2 days ago and arrive in early August during restrictions and holiday time😂Still so excited! Thank you for your incredible content!
This video was so nostalgic. I visited for 2 week in 2019 and I definitely want to come back as soon possible. The food everywhere we went was so good and flavorful. And those slippery hills were no joke, I took so many cute sandals and ended up wearing my Birkenstocks every day 😂😂. I seriously cannot wait to do it again.
My wife and I are planning a trip to Portugal as we speak. It will be our first time. We have been seriously thinking about moving our family of six there.
Medical school sounds similar to Mexico. Students go straight from high school to med school - For 4 years. There is a year of required social service in an underserved community (sometimes remote or rural) after med school and then ppl who go on to specialties have to pass a very difficult test and then go into residencies for specialties if they pass. Another informative video - thank you!
You guys are on my vision board! We are praying and working towards FIRE, will love to live in home like yours with plenty trees and big garden to grow our veggies and fruits🤗
Brooklyn NY is called the borough of churches, so I hear church bells often. Two children went past me on scooters this afternoon; one said to the other “why do they ring like that? (it was on the hour). I thought that was really funny! Also, you two must be a little younger than me - I remember eating seasonally!
A few other wonderful things you have not mentioned: on weekends you can get on your car and take empty highways to a completely different natural environment with beautiful villages, different foods and stay in all kinds of excellent cheap accommodations from hotels to Airbnb to camping. All year long my wife an I often do bicycle tours, hiking or explore surf spots and we once stayed, in winter, in a decent hotel for €8/day each including all you can eat breakfast. Another thing is there is excellent skiing just 7 hour drive from Lisbon. Sierra Nevada in Spain has a 3500m (10.000feet) mountain where even the world cup was held once. Up in the ski village there are all kinds of accomodation but, and you won't believe this, me and my son took our tent trailer and stayed down in a campground in Granada where temperatures were 12oC and just drove up every day to the mountain, a 35 minute drive where we parked underground just below the lifts. There was even night skiing. You never get bored here.
@@silveriorebelo8045 yes my kids don’t want to go back to Portugal as they literally born here in England. When I take them for holidays they don’t like it there saying it’s very hot to handle however I don’t want to stay here forever 😩 that’s my dilema.
Seriously what is there not to love about 🇵🇹? Those lunch specials are amazing! You guys have transitioned so well into your new life. I can’t wait to see what your next surprise will be, but I think I have an idea 😉! Thanks for this great content.

Do you know that the church ring give you the time? If it ring 3 time it mean its 3 am or pm and every half hour it ring to tell you half hour has pass. That was really help full in the old day when technology didnt exist.
The point of church bells is to tell Time. u dont need a clock u just need to lissen to the bell and u know what time it is :) "old Times" there was no clocks in peoples homes
Thanks to give Portugal to the world! Just one correction.. after the 6 years of medical school and one or two years of inertnship you do need to take a specialization… even if you just want to be a “family” doctor… normaly it is more 4 to 5 years… and we only have public medical schools… until the moment… so it is pretty much the most desired and hard degree! And no i am not a doctor or wanted to be… realy happy that you like Portugal! Tks
Thank you so much guys for your videos, there are many videos out there of Portugal but yours are the best, the best explained I found, keep enjoying life in Portugal and please dont stop posting this videos, blessings
I moved to the US from Nigeria at the age of 13 and it was a horrible transition for me. Due to September 11th, my mother not having the tools for a smooth transition and not being welcomed in high school. I’m glad your daughters are adjusting and assimilating well. They are lucky to have you as parents. It’s a gift to not only set them up financially but to also not be a burden to them in the future. The Portuguese medical school is similar to other countries in Europe and Nigeria as well. Med school may be shorter but the additional training before an official residency evens out in the end. Our medical system ranks lower in the US not because of training but because it is structured for profit and hampered by the litigious culture.
Interesting l haven’t noticed that things are closed in August. I often forget that most things are closed between 12 & 2pm it still drives me crazy. Yep the family getting together on Sundays is true and families living on the same street or very close to each other is true! All our neighbours are family and we are the 1st foreigners on the street. It’s nice because it means we got introduced to the community quickly because everyone knows each other. We love Portugal as much as you guys 💯
Really enjoy your story and it’s nice to see you all are enjoying the lifestyle there. I’ve visited quite a few countries never Portugal but I still can’t see myself living anywhere else but the US thank you for the content.
Hey A+C great video!!! The cobblestone part got me LOLing. I grew up in a cobblestone country and shitty shoes and then moved to a country with 5 months of ice and found it to be no big deal lolll. I guess I must have learned to levitate by that point 😂
Great video! So excited to visit Portugal (but not in August). You guys are soooo close to 500k subscribers. Hope you cross that line for Father’s Day! 🤞🏾🎉
August is the best month to visit. There's a lot of activities and parties, festivals, concerts.. you name it. Just don't pick august to settle in Portugal for the reasons explained in the video.
It’s amazing to hear you talking about my beloved country and things you find interesting 😊 well I’m 36 and I’ve always paid my bills on a ATM, even cellphone top ups when I was a teenager, so that’s really going on since 25/30 years now. For those who don’t have kids like me. August is the best month to work, since Lisbon it’s not so crowded and you can definitely take the most advantage of the city. On the other hand, even though cobalt streets are amazingly beautiful, women wearing high heels is super common… and believe me, after learning how to walk on those streets, you can wear high heels everywhere 😅 It’s funny you mentioned medical school, but it’s important to relay the message that most universities in Portugal are public, hence, the anual fees are around 1.000/1.500 per year. So that’s a hugeeee difference compared to USA. and most of the times ranked higher than the private, even to go to the professional market afterwards, and have much more options for universities degrees. Higher education in Portugal is ranked as one of the best in medicine, nursing, engineering, architecture, and many more. Definitely recommend to take a look ;) Amazing journey guys! I’m so proud! ☺️

It’s a great way to build unity and it’s something American cities should have tried to duplicate…that plus walkable and bikeable infrastructure.
It’s very cool to hear talk about our country!👍🏼👍🏼
You guys swapped USA to Portugal, and l swapped Portugal to USA, but l miss Portugal a lot. I love this country and the Portuguese way of life. By the way I am from Brazil.
Thank you for your videos.
God bless your Family!
You left Portugal to go live in the USA?... I'm so sorry for you 🤣
@@guleiro Portugal é bom pra quem tem renda, se for trabalhar é um dos piores países que tem.
My father was Sicilian but born in the USA. He kissed everyone! He lived in California most of his life, and the people here loved his kisses, even men would get a hug and kiss on cheek! I miss him terribly.
To ALL the Dad’s Pop’s and Grandpas Happy Fathers Day. Appreciate You ✌🏽❤️ So Cal
Great video as always. We can’t wait to spend some time in Portugal as part of our 10-yr retirement journey. John and Bev
Your family is so inspirational!
You are so kind!!! Thank you so much!!!❤️
Totally. 🥰
I saw a small garden in the center of almost each intersection in Portugal. I don't see them so often in North America
Good observation Vincent!!! Thanks for watching!
Sometimes we see in your eyes the typical pride of the Portuguese.
I hope so! Thanks for watching Luisa!!!
@@BlakeTedKord what Orlando said!
I could relate to most of it being a Brazilian ; we inherited the stones and the kisses♡
Thank you for fun moments with you ! God bless!
I am from Brazil and some of your surprises apply for us as well. Great video! :)
Oh cool! Thanks for sharing Rodrigo!!!
Have you heard of the Camino Portuguese? It’s a walking pilgrimage starting somewhere near Lisbon to Santiago, Spain. It’s quite an amazing journey that you and your daughters may love. It will take anywhere from 30 - 40 days to complete. Check it out!
This is cool info. Thanks for sharing❣️
We've just moved here and the seasonal fruits have been amazing!
I should also say that I absolutely FELL IN LOVE with Lisbon and Portugal in general. Can't wait to go back and spend more time there!! :)
Happy Father’s Day, Iman! Love your cheesy dad jokes. Christina is so sweet and loving with you ♥️ Beautiful couple. Thank you for making this wonderful and wholesome content.
Love the fresh seafood and pastries in Portugal, would love to visit again soon.
My husband & I love your videos! Y’all are so positive and encouraging on this journey. We are so excited to started 😀
I am coming to Portugal! Yessss!
YYYEEEEEEESSSSSSS!!!!!
I love your videos. They’re both informative and inspirational. You’ve worked very hard to get where you’re at. Thank you for sharing your journey.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video, you guys look really happy. I wanna move there tomorrow.
Medical school 6 years right after high school 😮Awesome😊
I know, right?! Thanks for watching Danelle!!!
How is it done in the US? Do you have to get anther degree first?
Same in France except it is 7 years for a family doctor. More years for specialists.
@@gabo.4355 in Portugal after the 6 years to be a doctor, you have more years for the speciality.
@@dpk4133 they said the same. 6 years is basic degree.
Loved your video 😊😊
I just have to say: OMG yes the cobblestnones! Be aware 😂😂 If you're visiting bring comfy (preferably sneakers) shoes because those are hella dangerous if it has rained. As a Portuguese that has almost feel multiple times I can't imagine someone who's visiting for the 1st time reaction.
Spot on with this video! Hope to be back in Portugal soon to start our next journey! Thanks for the great content.
I am so excited to move to Portugal some day for the food and kisses lol ! Thank you all so much for the inspiration 😁btw, do you all ever miss family and friends back in the US? How often do yall travel back for visits? This is my only reservation in moving across the waters. 😩
Thank you so much Breanna! SO happy to hear you're feeling inspired! And food and kisses - Portugal is where it's at!!! LOL!
You guys make me want to go live in Portugal! God bless!
Love guys transparency. I am inspired to step it up with “My Rich Journey” TY
I love your videos, it feels really good to ear people apreciate our country. I hope you'll keep enjoying living here.
I wish the USA would sell only fruit which is in season. There have been times I bought fruit and it is terrible! Most berries do not travel well.
Growing up in the us in the 70s & 80s I remember I looked forward to summer because that is when all of the cool fruits were in the grocery stores, plums, peaches, etc...
It‘s up to you. Nobody forces you to buy strawberries in January.
Thank you for your content! I had a couple of questions if you don’t mind:
We visited Portugal several years ago and loved it ❤
Brooklyn NY is called the borough of churches, so I hear church bells often.
I will be there on July 20th yay! Can’t wait 😛 kisses from Florida.
Miss my country right now 🥲 mas Eu volto quando ficar financially free 🥰
Yah eu também

in general emigrants are never financially 'free' - and then the kids are mot willing to go back with their parents
@@silveriorebelo8045 yes my kids don’t want to go back to Portugal as they literally born here in England. When I take them for holidays they don’t like it there saying it’s very hot to handle however I don’t want to stay here forever 😩 that’s my dilema.
WOW 500K subscribers! Congratulations!! :)
Seriously what is there not to love about 🇵🇹? Those lunch specials are amazing! You guys have transitioned so well into your new life. I can’t wait to see what your next surprise will be, but I think I have an idea 😉! Thanks for this great content.
The possibility to pay your bills at an ATM is mostly for people who don't use online banking. Those same codes can be used at an ATM and with online banking.

We are interested in the silver cost for eventual purchase. Can you suggest an area for a stay in September for us to experience the area. Would love to hear your thoughts. Thank you so much!
The closed in Summer time it's also you find in Spain, as long as one whole month or 2 !
I'd like to see some of what you do in a day/week as young retirees enjoying life in Portugal
This is terrific!!!!! Hope all is going well for you guys! ☮️💟
I'm so glad you chose our country to live in, we welcome you with all the best wishes
Portugal sounds like a country that I need to add on my bucket list. In Spain they also do lots of kisses.
Awe, the wet streets in Rome. I was very cautious, but so happy 😊
You are great. I love the way you love Portugal. Im especially happy the girls have good friends and enjoy being here. Kisses for all of you!!!
I love these positive vibes I get every time I watch your videos 🥰 Thanks you!!!!
Congratulations on half a million subscribers great milestone you guys!
Also I'd say we Portuguese are quite friendly :) So it's easy to interact with locals. And I'd wager northern people are the most friendly :D
Love your channel. So glad it’s all working out for y’all.

Yall are so cute love the journey stay blessed and happy yall are doing life right
Hey A+C great video!!!
@@rrrrrrrr88888888 Thank you! Excellent points
On the other hand, even though cobalt streets are amazingly beautiful, women wearing high heels is super common… and believe me, after learning how to walk on those streets, you can wear high heels everywhere 😅
It’s funny you mentioned medical school, but it’s important to relay the message that most universities in Portugal are public, hence, the anual fees are around 1.000/1.500 per year. So that’s a hugeeee difference compared to USA. and most of the times ranked higher than the private, even to go to the professional market afterwards, and have much more options for universities degrees. Higher education in Portugal is ranked as one of the best in medicine, nursing, engineering, architecture, and many more. Definitely recommend to take a look ;)
Amazing journey guys! I’m so proud! ☺️
