One aspect of the Triceratons I never got was why do they struggle with breathing Earth's atmosphere if they breathe Nitrogen? Earth's Atmosphere is 70% Nitrogen

I loved how they made Bishop basically an embodiment (literally) of the 2003 series major plot points: the secret agent bent on defeating invading aliens and the Utroms. Totally sweet c-c-c-combo! Oh, and just before they got sucked into that portal, you can see Fishface straight up kick Rahzar off him before he too becomes a victim.
I think it would be ballsy of them to keep Splinter dead personally. Also so glad Agent Bishop, the triceratons, and the utroms, and the fugitoid are in the show even if it's not how i expected. Hoping for tons of Doctor Who references in season 4.

I bet David Tennant got the role of Professor Honeycut due his amazing performance on "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" as another robotic professor named Huyang. The droid appeared in three episodes from the fifth season of "The Clone Wars". Tennant even won an Emmy award for his portrayal of Professor Huyang in those episodes.

I feel where you guys are coming from. It's clear, though, that this show would not be the same if it didn't have Master Splinter, the Shredder and all the other cast at each others throats. So I'm 100% certain that by some strange twist of the imagination, earth will be back in Season 4, and so will Splinter and Shredder. Bringing up Renet was my way of trying to rationalize how they could undo the damage that was done by the Triceratons.
So... They're slowly narrating themselves into a corner.. Hell, they might go awesome route and just leave earth behind, but my guess.. ..my guess is a reset by whatever means, probably time travel. Seen that happen way too often
rowan markovich Actually, I believe it's exactly in those cases that a reset is more likely. It's when such a huge thing happens that 'changes everything', that it's more likely to happen. Viewers end up whining, the new direction cannot be adopted properly by writers, etc..
Overall, season 3 is definitely the weakest one so far. From the filler episodes in April's farmhouse that went on way too long, to the very rushed finale (Splinter dying and Earth disappearing "is awesome"???), it really wasn't as well-thought-out as the first two seasons. It didn't seem like there were any major developments between the main characters, and is it just me or was there not even a single Raph-centric episode at all? Still hoping that they can improve on the next season. Get back to creating those moments that we love about the characters. Remember when the turtles were forced to switch weapons? Or when Donnie & Mikey had a feud w/ Leo & Raph? And how about actually developing the whole Donnie-April-Casey situation? Perhaps reignite the Leo vs Raph rivalry to new heights? Also, they need to put a stop to the Mikey-screws-up episodes. It's gotten really tired at this point.
+jp3813 I thought the 'Dinosaur Seen in the Sewers!' episode was Raph-centric...ish. I've seen a lot of people complain about the Farmhouse episodes, but I really don't see why. To me they were far from boring - in fact, while they may have been filler episodes to a point, they were also rather needed in the sense that Leo literally just woke up from a three month coma. Even factoring in that turtles go into hibernation during the winter and Leo's coma might have been a survival induced version of that, he is also part human and that part of his anatomy would need rehabilitation and exercise after the possible muscular atrophy that occurred from his immobility. And if his coma was induced by head trauma, as it was implied, then depending on what part of his brain was affected, he would have to spent time relearning how to control his own body again. People don't always wake up from comas and just go, "WELL, heyo everybody! No I have no lingering pain from my broken ribs or broken leg and definitely no psychological damage from having been beaten to a pulp, now get up off your lazy butts and let's go to New York!" and I don't think Leo's healing could have been properly addressed in a montage. If it were a movie, maybe. On the other hand, I completely agree with you on the 'Mikey-screws-up' episodes needing to stop. However, I really hope they don't intensify the Leo-vs-Raph rivalry. I've seen it in the movies and the other show, but it really just rubs me as annoying instead of riveting. Basically, the episodes fall into the same rut. Raphael disagrees with Leo, tries to wing it his own way, fails, and has to suffer a blow to his pride when he comes back and admits he's wrong in his prideful, not-saying-it-aloud-but-saying-it-anyway sort of way. Which is okay once or twice, in fact, 'New Girl In Town' (i think that's what it was called) is one of my favorite episodes because they played the rivalry well while also resolving it somewhat. But once it becomes the staple of the relationship, it gets boring, irksome and makes you really dislike either Leo or Raph or both for the things that they say or do to each other. I think Leo and Raph are good foils for each other - Leonardo sees things in a different way than Raphael and putting them together helps them see more of the big picture, but at the same time it also drives a wedge between them, and that's okay, that's normal, but the full on Yoshi-Saki like rivalry doesn't appeal to me. The relationship I would like to see developed would be the Donatello-Raphael one. Why? Because to be honest, they don't really feel like family to me. Their interactions usually only involve Raphael being a jerk and Donnie yelling back or snarking back. I mean, we have the Leo-Donnie, Mikey-Donnie, Leo-Raph, Leo-Mikey and Mikey-Raph relationships pretty well developed and they all look like sibling relationships we've seen in real life, but Raphael and Donatello seem to be just two people (turtles?) stuck in the same family.
Joanna Mills The coma itself was just an excuse to stay at the farmhouse. TMNT (1990) was more efficient in that regard. I wouldn't have minded it too much if they actually used those episodes for more development between the characters. A missed opportunity to say the least. What I remember most about Raph and Donnie, other than their bickering, was the former helping out the latter w/ April. Like when Donnie couldn't shut up about comparing April to Karai, so Raph just drags him away. The reason moments like that are missing in this last season was b/c there simply hasn't been much focus on Raph period. Hell, at this point, he's the only one of the turtles who doesn't have a love interest. I think it was Leo who got the most development mainly b/c he started out being injured.

Maybe I just have bad taste, but I still like the farmhouse episodes. *shrug* I agree that they should have been used for better character development, but that's where being a fanfic writer like me comes in handy - my mind is always automatically filling in the blanks with headcannon. *grins playfully* Oh, you mean at the farmhouse when Raph's trying to convince Donnie to let April go? Or back in New York in the 'Newtralizer'? (Is that the episode? I can't recall...) I don't remember seeing that. The only moment I remember was right after the episode that Slash was mutated in, Raph hugs his brothers in gratitude and he gives rather special attention to Donnie in that hug just before the credits roll (more like flash by at a seizure inducing speed). It really is a pity they haven't focused on Raph - he comes really close to being my favorite turtle. Though I have to say I'm kind of dreading Mona Lisa's arrival since she was placed as his love interest last time we saw her. I really hope what happened to Donnie's character doesn't happen to Raphael's. Who knows, maybe we'll see more of Raphael in the fourth season. Even though it is a space centered season.
Joanna Mills I don't remember which episodes, but they sure as hell weren't in season 3. The one I referred to was when Donnie couldn't stop trying to explain to April that Karai is a better kunoichi than her but she's way prettier. Raph just goes ahead and covers Donnie's mouth then drags him away saying "Don't fight it, you'll thank me later." I think there's currently a youtube video of it titled "TMNT raph saves donnie". Another moment I remember was Raph talking up Donnie's bravery to April, which resulted in the first ever April-Donnie hug.
I was not expecting ANY of this in the ending. I thought Shredder was going to help Splinter save the Earth so they would help him find Karai, but he kills Shredder, and allows the machine to destroy the earth along with him and Karai?! What the hell is wrong with him?!
one of my favorite parts of this 3 part episode was bishop. seeing a kraang (well not kraang, but utrom) kick the turtles butts was so funny and his fighting style was so awesome. my only problem with these episodes was casey jones reaction at the end. his entire world just got sucked into a black hole before his very eyes, and he's totally okay with it. he even says awesomelike wtf. like atleast look shocked. you don't have to cry or anything. but besides that, this episode was fucking awesome. the season 2 finale was awesome as shit, but this one exceeded that finale. so amazing. onward to season 4.
what really made me angry is that the death of splinter they didnt seem sad. moments later they seem them happy and joking again like wtf your dad just died. the earth is gone
+TELEKINETICxBOLT Yeah, I hope they change that in the premier of season 4. Heck, look at how down in the dumps they were at the farmhouse. They didn't know if Splinter was alive or not and Leo had gotten nearly killed by Shredder. Now, they've just witnessed Splinter's death and the Earth's destruction. I know it's a kid's show, but they should be extremely upset.
After watching these episodes and the surprising twists and turns, I've been anxiously waiting on your review of them, Andre. Splinter's onscreen death made my jaw drop, too!

Bruhhhh...There are so many classic Mirage references in this: Splinter dying, Mikey getting captured by Dinos (in the incomplete Vol.4 of TMNT), the Fugitoid, hell the Triceraton invasion! Damn ive loved what theyve done with this show thus far!
My theory also comes from the Crognard the Barbarian finale. Before the turtles are called out to help Raph and Zog, Mikey rewinds the episode to before Crognard gets eaten and says, "Fixed it, now he wins!" I'm hoping that that's foreshadowing on how they save the Earth (and maybe Splinter)
You know, during that interrogation scene, I was hoping that for once in their lives the writers could take Mikey seriously. I mean, they're in essence putting one of their main characters through a torture scene (even if those weren't the actual effects, obviously the Triceratons thought it was torture). But, no, they decided to do a "Mikey is dumb" joke, which wasn't funny. Seriously, I think he knows a bit more about his home planet than just pizza. What's really sad to me is that the 80's series treated Mikey better (see "What's Michelangelo Good For"), and characters and amazing writing wasn't exactly its thing. 2k12 series: stop being so mean to Mikey. He's a character,not just a walking dumb joke.
+Elizabeth Harter I agree. I get sick of them reusing the same plot of Mikey "breaking" into Donnie's lab and screwing everything up. Mikey has his awesome moments, but they need to "ease up on the stupid". Haha

Just my theory : Karai was not there, which makes sense, but it may allow her, for not being present at that exact location, via time-travel, to be placed in time to save Splinter. The Turtles can't do this, because they were already there and fully occupied. As for this finale : Wow. Just wow.

Ok but I'm telling you this a very long story. Splinter's clan, the Hamato clan, and Shredder's clan, the Foot, have been mortal enemies for a long time. After Splinter's father lead an attack on the main branch of the Foot clan, he found Shredder as a baby and took him in to raise as his own along with Splinter. They grew up and trained together as brothers but once Tang Shen came into their lives, it grew into a rivalry between them trying to gain Tang's hand. While both Shredder and Splinter loved Tang Shen equally, Splinter got the chance to start a family with Tang as they ended up having a daughter named Miwa. This made Shredder's rivalry with Splinter grow even deeper. In Shredder's mind, Tang Shen and even Miwa belonged with him and once Shredder found out the truth about his past; about him being from the then fallen Foot clan and Splinter's father not being his real dad, this sparked the full hatred towards Splinter. In secret, Splinter planned of reviving the Foot clan as its leader, taking revenge on Splinter and his clan, and finally making Tang Shen and Miwa his. Shredder challenged Splinter to a fight to the death and this fight started a fire inside the dojo. As they continued, Tang Shen then arrived to stop them. Sadly, as Shredder was going to fatal blow to Splinter, he struck Tang Shen, killing her. Still shocked from what he had done, Shredder was suddenly hit by a piece of falling burning debris, permanently scarring his face. With the dojo coming down and his lover killed by the hands of his former brother, Splinter managed to escape the fire but he couldn't find his daughter, Miwa, anywhere. Meanwhile, Shredder also managed to escape from the burning dojo and found Miwa in a safe place that Tang Shen had put her before going off to stop the two fighting brothers. With nothing left for Splinter in Japan, he moved to New York to start a new life for himself while Shredder takes in Miwa as his own daughter and renames her as "Karai". That's just beginning!
***** As someone who has watched every TMNT 2012 episode so far, I know all about Splinter and Shredder's history xD . I just don't see how the Splinter vs. Shredder story is similar to any of the plots in GoT. The only one which comes close to it, is the Lannisters vs. Martells plotline, and even that is not a true blood feud between the clans, it is only particular family members. Anyway, the only thing that stuck out to me in the Splinter vs. Shredder storyline, is the fact that Miwa/Karaii got caught between two fathers who happen to be mortal enemies. One is her biological father, the other was the one who raised her, but also murdered her mother. Despite all the messed up shit that I've seen on Game Of Thrones, I haven't seen a single character on GoT with that kind of emotional baggage.
Even though this is a kid's show this finale was one of the best I've ever seen on TV. They upped the stakes so much and I was shocked that the Earth was destroyed. (Unfortunately I was late to the party and came across a spoiler online about Master Splinter, so I saw it coming.) Also, I really hope they throw in a few Doctor Who references on the show, since they have online. :D I'll have to keep my eyes peeled.
I actually think you nailed it with the prediction of "they get the planet back, but not Splinter." I feel like the planet being destroyed is gonna get retconned with time travel shenanigans but like they can't save the planet AND Splinter or something. I feel like if they could save them all it would just feel cheap and lazy.

The literal best episode yet! The show is just full of surprises, cool references and just good storytelling. I like how they even point out how cool the triceratons look and that it sucks that they are bad.
This ending had me at a loss for Words! I mean never have i seen i show were The Earth gets destroyed by Aliens who use a bomb that generates a Black Hole and Destroys Earth....I never knew TMNT would get like this..
The day after Annihilation: Earth! aired (on the Monday) I went ballistic all the way through school. I drew all over my left arm saying things like "SPLINTER'S DEAD" and "SHREDDER'S A STUPID, SELFISH JERK!!!". May I add that people were rather curious as to who Splinter and Shredder was (Sinful!!!) and also asking why I was sad.And I was just sad all day... but then I was also excited for what's gonna happen in season 4 (WITH DAVID TENNANT!!!).Anyway... Can't wait for the 25th of October!!!
Amazing review. And its not just Splinter I'm worried about. Muckman is dead for good, because there as a scene where the Triceratons shot him to death and you could even see his skull appear on the screen. Same with Mondo Gecko. They smashed Mondo Gecko to death and you could hear his body splatting from their feet. And everyone else just flat out DIED.
My only problem with the finale is you know the Turtles are going to find some deus ex machina that reverses all the damage including the death of Splinter. Be it through their time traveling friend or some pseudo science mumbo jumbo that brings Earth back from the black hole but somehow reverses time as well to save him. It feels cheap for them to pull this finale because you know it will just be reversed. What should have happened in my opinion is they fight back the Triceratons but get sucked through a wormhole Farscape style and have to find a way back home. Then when they return home they find New York taken over by Shredder and have to rescue their friends and allies to take back the city.
When Splinter died...I cried my eyes out. I screamed and cried. My parents thought I was dying. Shredder wanted Karai back so much but she's gone too. Wow. Shredder's Lucky I don't beat him up
i am more than slightly conflicted cause you know they are gonna bring the planet back. lthey still have like nine pltlolines going on here still. it feels weird that they are diong this whole space thing and thus delaying things like kirai's current status, outside of being dead with every other fucking character the turtles ever interacted with at once. unless some kind of space ninja picked her up before it went boom, she went boom.
Quick question, why was New York getting sucked up first but when the Earth is shown its over a slightly flooded Scotland missing some of the Highlands, what were they thinking at the time

I think one day while exploring the universe they find the battle nexus, where they meet the ultimate ninja who tell them about the warstaff, he get it before they do and it up to the turtles, Bishop, Crane, and the trichertons from altering the past so that none of them exist. The winning turtle used the warstaff to return both earth and Splitter. After the Earth returns I believe that all of Shredder mutants see how mad he is and turn on him, creating a war in new york.
These episodes had me freakin' out. I had to pause it when Bishop showed up. I can't wrap my head around this guy not being called 'Mortu'. Bishop isn't a good guy! I know where his character ends up in the end of the 2003 show but still ... I even thought he was a better villain than Shredder. The Fugitiod's entrance was dripping with 'The Doctor' vibes. Everything from the setting (appearing right before a planet is destroyed) and the lines (you are about to embark on a fantastic adventure) were so Doctor-esque. So excited for season 4! The door is wide open for future adventures: Battle Nexus (please Usagi and Gen; please!!), Secret Origins, the Across the Universe adventures [I doubted that this show could ever do anything close to SAINW but this finale makes me think otherwise] and more Utroms and Triceratons (Traximus ... maybe ... please?)
I may be a Doctor Who fan, and David Tennant may have been my first Doctor, but I was a TMNT fan LONG before I was a Whovian. TMNT much like Power Rangers is my childhood. Just sucks that I've been missing out on so much of the newer TMNT series lately. That's why I go to your recaps. I can't watch the episodes usually but I can watch your recaps which catch me up. Honestly....what a hell of a season finale. Those ratings must be WAY up after that. And it's only gonna get better.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles season story Season 1- The beginning and set up. Also relationships. Season 2- Expanding the universe and adding to the history. Aliens and Kry Season 3 - Fan service and emotional scenes. Season 4- Space and exploration. Season 5- Time Travel and Alternate Dimensions Season 6- the end to the story. Probably also another Turtles forever.
Yeah, I gotta say. I did not see that coming. I knew they were going to space, but dang man. I have a feeling Michelangelo's squeeze is coming back and she is going to play into somehow...helping earth survive. I don't know enough about the comics to even guess what's gonna happen. I loved the Venkman reference, for a brief second I thought you missed it. I shouldn't have doubted you. I'm sorry.
I liked this episode too & agreed with everything you said about it. Michael Dorn also did the voice for Coldstone in the Gargoyles series. Professor Hunnycut was also in the 2003 TMNT series.
TMNT Season 4 is going to be AMAZING. My predictions for the next season are that there will be tension between Mona Lisa and Newtralizer. Like they knew each other before Newt was captured by the Kraang, or something (my personal theory is that he is her "brother"/fellow warrior, whom she once looked up to, before *insert event here* happened), and will have an awesome one-on-one fight when he threatens the turtles. At least that's what I hope will happen. OH, and that the turtles will use some sort of time travel twist to restore Earth, and hopefully save Splinter in the process. But that one is kinda obvious haha!
When Bishop came I freaked out because I liked him in the 2003 series but man when Splinter died, I dropped on to the floor crying. He was my favorite besides the turtles. Now if I see Shredder again, I want him killed the same way. That guy has lost his mercy card
Looking forward to season 4, but also worried it might go down the route the 2003 series did with "Fast Forward" with all this space travel stuff, and everyone knows how bad that season was. But with regards to this finale, whilst it was great to watch, they ended it in such a way that it's almost predictable as to what is going to happen next. The turtles will find a way with Renet I reckon to reverse time and reverse everything that happened to Earth and that includes stopping the Triceraton invasion from ever happening. Best way I can describe it is with Back to the Future Part 2, where Marty and Doc must go back in time to change what happens in the future in 1985 before Biff gets the book. Guarantee this is what the next 10 episodes or more will be similar too. To me, if they ended this series with no invasion or destruction of Earth with all the characters, but only left it where Splinter gets killed by Shredder, that would have left a huge cliffhanger with a lot more suspension which would've sparked greater speculation for the next series as it will make fans question "Is Splinter really gone?" or "Can he be brought back?". But destroying the whole of Earth with all the characters? Too predictable as to what season 4 will be about. Everything will be back to normal within 10 episodes. 100% sure about it.
I'm curious if- hahaha "if", I mean "when" they bring back the Earth would they do something similar to what they did to Donatello in the IDW comics to Splinter in this show? Like, he's dead, but at the same time not really?

I'm a Whovian, and I've already been watching TMNT for quite a long time now. Having David "The 10th Doctor" Tennant on the show now is just a bonus for me. Also, it really hit me hard when I watched Splinter die!
OK I don't know if this is going to happen on season 4 but I think what's going to happen is somehow the Utrons or Krang got everyone off of earth before it was sucked up(or everyone important at least) And all of them will be in giant healing containers. Like how in the 2000 version of TMNT splinter "died" but he was saved by the Utrons. Also you gotta wonder. What new show are they going to watch now? Some wierd space show? Space anime? Space reality TV?
Well if the Turtles do go back in time to stop this threat they might have to do some other stuff first like face that cosmic threat Professor Honeycutt mentioned. They will probably go before Zog sent the beacon and defeat the Triceraton before they even attack Earth.
I fell bad for my lil brother. He was in LA when the finale happened. I told him I watched it which I didn't. I told him Splinter dies and the turtles go to space. So when we watched it we were freaking out like crazy.
My prediction is that the gang will have some adventures more centering around time and space (which would be a clever reference dealing with time seeing as how David Tennant is now part of the cast.)....As far as the time aspect goes...I don't think the series will literally wipe off planet earth forever(seeing as how we have so many characters who were supposedly killed off that we've barley learned anything about.) so, I think they'll travel back in time and save everything after gaining knowledge about the Triceretons.
Funny how David Tennant is now on Disney XD as The Doctor and on Nickelodeon as Professor Honeycutt on TMNT. He does not pick sides here.

The droid appeared in three episodes from the fifth season of "The Clone Wars". Tennant even won an Emmy award for his portrayal of Professor Huyang in those episodes.

I feel where you guys are coming from. It's clear, though, that this show would not be the same if it didn't have Master Splinter, the Shredder and all the other cast at each others throats. So I'm 100% certain that by some strange twist of the imagination, earth will be back in Season 4, and so will Splinter and Shredder. Bringing up Renet was my way of trying to rationalize how they could undo the damage that was done by the Triceratons.

Overall, season 3 is definitely the weakest one so far. From the filler episodes in April's farmhouse that went on way too long, to the very rushed finale (Splinter dying and Earth disappearing "is awesome"???), it really wasn't as well-thought-out as the first two seasons. It didn't seem like there were any major developments between the main characters, and is it just me or was there not even a single Raph-centric episode at all?
Still hoping that they can improve on the next season. Get back to creating those moments that we love about the characters. Remember when the turtles were forced to switch weapons? Or when Donnie & Mikey had a feud w/ Leo & Raph? And how about actually developing the whole Donnie-April-Casey situation? Perhaps reignite the Leo vs Raph rivalry to new heights? Also, they need to put a stop to the Mikey-screws-up episodes. It's gotten really tired at this point.

I've seen a lot of people complain about the Farmhouse episodes, but I really don't see why. To me they were far from boring - in fact, while they may have been filler episodes to a point, they were also rather needed in the sense that Leo literally just woke up from a three month coma. Even factoring in that turtles go into hibernation during the winter and Leo's coma might have been a survival induced version of that, he is also part human and that part of his anatomy would need rehabilitation and exercise after the possible muscular atrophy that occurred from his immobility.
And if his coma was induced by head trauma, as it was implied, then depending on what part of his brain was affected, he would have to spent time relearning how to control his own body again. People don't always wake up from comas and just go, "WELL, heyo everybody! No I have no lingering pain from my broken ribs or broken leg and definitely no psychological damage from having been beaten to a pulp, now get up off your lazy butts and let's go to New York!" and I don't think Leo's healing could have been properly addressed in a montage. If it were a movie, maybe.
On the other hand, I completely agree with you on the 'Mikey-screws-up' episodes needing to stop. However, I really hope they don't intensify the Leo-vs-Raph rivalry. I've seen it in the movies and the other show, but it really just rubs me as annoying instead of riveting. Basically, the episodes fall into the same rut. Raphael disagrees with Leo, tries to wing it his own way, fails, and has to suffer a blow to his pride when he comes back and admits he's wrong in his prideful, not-saying-it-aloud-but-saying-it-anyway sort of way. Which is okay once or twice, in fact, 'New Girl In Town' (i think that's what it was called) is one of my favorite episodes because they played the rivalry well while also resolving it somewhat. But once it becomes the staple of the relationship, it gets boring, irksome and makes you really dislike either Leo or Raph or both for the things that they say or do to each other. I think Leo and Raph are good foils for each other - Leonardo sees things in a different way than Raphael and putting them together helps them see more of the big picture, but at the same time it also drives a wedge between them, and that's okay, that's normal, but the full on Yoshi-Saki like rivalry doesn't appeal to me.
The relationship I would like to see developed would be the Donatello-Raphael one. Why? Because to be honest, they don't really feel like family to me. Their interactions usually only involve Raphael being a jerk and Donnie yelling back or snarking back. I mean, we have the Leo-Donnie, Mikey-Donnie, Leo-Raph, Leo-Mikey and Mikey-Raph relationships pretty well developed and they all look like sibling relationships we've seen in real life, but Raphael and Donatello seem to be just two people (turtles?) stuck in the same family.
Joanna Mills The coma itself was just an excuse to stay at the farmhouse. TMNT (1990) was more efficient in that regard. I wouldn't have minded it too much if they actually used those episodes for more development between the characters. A missed opportunity to say the least.
What I remember most about Raph and Donnie, other than their bickering, was the former helping out the latter w/ April. Like when Donnie couldn't shut up about comparing April to Karai, so Raph just drags him away. The reason moments like that are missing in this last season was b/c there simply hasn't been much focus on Raph period. Hell, at this point, he's the only one of the turtles who doesn't have a love interest. I think it was Leo who got the most development mainly b/c he started out being injured.

Maybe I just have bad taste, but I still like the farmhouse episodes. *shrug* I agree that they should have been used for better character development, but that's where being a fanfic writer like me comes in handy - my mind is always automatically filling in the blanks with headcannon. *grins playfully*
Oh, you mean at the farmhouse when Raph's trying to convince Donnie to let April go? Or back in New York in the 'Newtralizer'? (Is that the episode? I can't recall...) I don't remember seeing that. The only moment I remember was right after the episode that Slash was mutated in, Raph hugs his brothers in gratitude and he gives rather special attention to Donnie in that hug just before the credits roll (more like flash by at a seizure inducing speed).
It really is a pity they haven't focused on Raph - he comes really close to being my favorite turtle. Though I have to say I'm kind of dreading Mona Lisa's arrival since she was placed as his love interest last time we saw her. I really hope what happened to Donnie's character doesn't happen to Raphael's. Who knows, maybe we'll see more of Raphael in the fourth season. Even though it is a space centered season.
Joanna Mills I don't remember which episodes, but they sure as hell weren't in season 3. The one I referred to was when Donnie couldn't stop trying to explain to April that Karai is a better kunoichi than her but she's way prettier. Raph just goes ahead and covers Donnie's mouth then drags him away saying "Don't fight it, you'll thank me later." I think there's currently a youtube video of it titled "TMNT raph saves donnie". Another moment I remember was Raph talking up Donnie's bravery to April, which resulted in the first ever April-Donnie hug.

I was not expecting ANY of this in the ending. I thought Shredder was going to help Splinter save the Earth so they would help him find Karai, but he kills Shredder, and allows the machine to destroy the earth along with him and Karai?! What the hell is wrong with him?!
one of my favorite parts of this 3 part episode was bishop. seeing a kraang (well not kraang, but utrom) kick the turtles butts was so funny and his fighting style was so awesome. my only problem with these episodes was casey jones reaction at the end. his entire world just got sucked into a black hole before his very eyes, and he's totally okay with it. he even says awesomelike wtf. like atleast look shocked. you don't have to cry or anything. but besides that, this episode was fucking awesome. the season 2 finale was awesome as shit, but this one exceeded that finale. so amazing. onward to season 4.

My theory also comes from the Crognard the Barbarian finale. Before the turtles are called out to help Raph and Zog, Mikey rewinds the episode to before Crognard gets eaten and says, "Fixed it, now he wins!" I'm hoping that that's foreshadowing on how they save the Earth (and maybe Splinter)
You know, during that interrogation scene, I was hoping that for once in their lives the writers could take Mikey seriously. I mean, they're in essence putting one of their main characters through a torture scene (even if those weren't the actual effects, obviously the Triceratons thought it was torture). But, no, they decided to do a "Mikey is dumb" joke, which wasn't funny. Seriously, I think he knows a bit more about his home planet than just pizza. What's really sad to me is that the 80's series treated Mikey better (see "What's Michelangelo Good For"), and characters and amazing writing wasn't exactly its thing.

Just my theory : Karai was not there, which makes sense, but it may allow her, for not being present at that exact location, via time-travel, to be placed in time to save Splinter. The Turtles can't do this, because they were already there and fully occupied.

The whole story between Splinter and Shredder is something that could easily be put into Game of Thrones.

Ok but I'm telling you this a very long story.
Splinter's clan, the Hamato clan, and Shredder's clan, the Foot, have been mortal enemies for a long time. After Splinter's father lead an attack on the main branch of the Foot clan, he found Shredder as a baby and took him in to raise as his own along with Splinter. They grew up and trained together as brothers but once Tang Shen came into their lives, it grew into a rivalry between them trying to gain Tang's hand.
While both Shredder and Splinter loved Tang Shen equally, Splinter got the chance to start a family with Tang as they ended up having a daughter named Miwa. This made Shredder's rivalry with Splinter grow even deeper. In Shredder's mind, Tang Shen and even Miwa belonged with him and once Shredder found out the truth about his past; about him being from the then fallen Foot clan and Splinter's father not being his real dad, this sparked the full hatred towards Splinter. In secret, Splinter planned of reviving the Foot clan as its leader, taking revenge on Splinter and his clan, and finally making Tang Shen and Miwa his.
Shredder challenged Splinter to a fight to the death and this fight started a fire inside the dojo. As they continued, Tang Shen then arrived to stop them. Sadly, as Shredder was going to fatal blow to Splinter, he struck Tang Shen, killing her. Still shocked from what he had done, Shredder was suddenly hit by a piece of falling burning debris, permanently scarring his face. With the dojo coming down and his lover killed by the hands of his former brother, Splinter managed to escape the fire but he couldn't find his daughter, Miwa, anywhere. Meanwhile, Shredder also managed to escape from the burning dojo and found Miwa in a safe place that Tang Shen had put her before going off to stop the two fighting brothers. With nothing left for Splinter in Japan, he moved to New York to start a new life for himself while Shredder takes in Miwa as his own daughter and renames her as "Karai".
That's just beginning!
***** As someone who has watched every TMNT 2012 episode so far, I know all about Splinter and Shredder's history xD . I just don't see how the Splinter vs. Shredder story is similar to any of the plots in GoT. The only one which comes close to it, is the Lannisters vs. Martells plotline, and even that is not a true blood feud between the clans, it is only particular family members.
Anyway, the only thing that stuck out to me in the Splinter vs. Shredder storyline, is the fact that Miwa/Karaii got caught between two fathers who happen to be mortal enemies. One is her biological father, the other was the one who raised her, but also murdered her mother. Despite all the messed up shit that I've seen on Game Of Thrones, I haven't seen a single character on GoT with that kind of emotional baggage.

Even though this is a kid's show this finale was one of the best I've ever seen on TV. They upped the stakes so much and I was shocked that the Earth was destroyed. (Unfortunately I was late to the party and came across a spoiler online about Master Splinter, so I saw it coming.) Also, I really hope they throw in a few Doctor Who references on the show, since they have online. :D I'll have to keep my eyes peeled.
I actually think you nailed it with the prediction of "they get the planet back, but not Splinter." I feel like the planet being destroyed is gonna get retconned with time travel shenanigans but like they can't save the planet AND Splinter or something. I feel like if they could save them all it would just feel cheap and lazy.
I hate my younger self for thinking "teenage mutant ninja turtles is just stupid and so is power rangers". ESPECIALLY since they are now both my favorite shows

The literal best episode yet! The show is just full of surprises, cool references and just good storytelling. I like how they even point out how cool the triceratons look and that it sucks that they are bad.
This ending had me at a loss for Words! I mean never have i seen i show were The Earth gets destroyed by Aliens who use a bomb that generates a Black Hole and Destroys Earth....I never knew TMNT would get like this..

The day after Annihilation: Earth! aired (on the Monday) I went ballistic all the way through school. I drew all over my left arm saying things like "SPLINTER'S DEAD" and "SHREDDER'S A STUPID, SELFISH JERK!!!". May I add that people were rather curious as to who Splinter and Shredder was (Sinful!!!) and also asking why I was sad.And I was just sad all day... but then I was also excited for what's gonna happen in season 4 (WITH DAVID TENNANT!!!).Anyway... Can't wait for the 25th of October!!!
Amazing review. And its not just Splinter I'm worried about. Muckman is dead for good, because there as a scene where the Triceratons shot him to death and you could even see his skull appear on the screen. Same with Mondo Gecko. They smashed Mondo Gecko to death and you could hear his body splatting from their feet. And everyone else just flat out DIED.

My only problem with the finale is you know the Turtles are going to find some deus ex machina that reverses all the damage including the death of Splinter. Be it through their time traveling friend or some pseudo science mumbo jumbo that brings Earth back from the black hole but somehow reverses time as well to save him. It feels cheap for them to pull this finale because you know it will just be reversed. What should have happened in my opinion is they fight back the Triceratons but get sucked through a wormhole Farscape style and have to find a way back home. Then when they return home they find New York taken over by Shredder and have to rescue their friends and allies to take back the city.
When Splinter died...I cried my eyes out. I screamed and cried. My parents thought I was dying. Shredder wanted Karai back so much but she's gone too. Wow. Shredder's Lucky I don't beat him up
i am more than slightly conflicted cause you know they are gonna bring the planet back. lthey still have like nine pltlolines going on here still. it feels weird that they are diong this whole space thing and thus delaying things like kirai's current status, outside of being dead with every other fucking character the turtles ever interacted with at once.

I think one day while exploring the universe they find the battle nexus, where they meet the ultimate ninja who tell them about the warstaff, he get it before they do and it up to the turtles, Bishop, Crane, and the trichertons from altering the past so that none of them exist. The winning turtle used the warstaff to return both earth and Splitter. After the Earth returns I believe that all of Shredder mutants see how mad he is and turn on him, creating a war in new york.
After seeing this episode I'm crying,screaming, dying.
These episodes had me freakin' out. I had to pause it when Bishop showed up. I can't wrap my head around this guy not being called 'Mortu'. Bishop isn't a good guy! I know where his character ends up in the end of the 2003 show but still ... I even thought he was a better villain than Shredder.
The Fugitiod's entrance was dripping with 'The Doctor' vibes. Everything from the setting (appearing right before a planet is destroyed) and the lines (you are about to embark on a fantastic adventure) were so Doctor-esque.
So excited for season 4! The door is wide open for future adventures: Battle Nexus (please Usagi and Gen; please!!), Secret Origins, the Across the Universe adventures [I doubted that this show could ever do anything close to SAINW but this finale makes me think otherwise] and more Utroms and Triceratons (Traximus ... maybe ... please?)

I may be a Doctor Who fan, and David Tennant may have been my first Doctor, but I was a TMNT fan LONG before I was a Whovian. TMNT much like Power Rangers is my childhood. Just sucks that I've been missing out on so much of the newer TMNT series lately. That's why I go to your recaps. I can't watch the episodes usually but I can watch your recaps which catch me up. Honestly....what a hell of a season finale. Those ratings must be WAY up after that. And it's only gonna get better.
***** I've seen a good chunk of it. Just schedule wise I've been unable to catch up with it. But yea it's one of Nick's best shows in a long time. And definitely worth the TMNT name.

I liked this episode too & agreed with everything you said about it. Michael Dorn also did the voice for Coldstone in the Gargoyles series. Professor Hunnycut was also in the 2003 TMNT series.
I was half expecting your cold opening to be just you staring in horror. The ending....oh man...
TMNT Season 4 is going to be AMAZING.
My predictions for the next season are that there will be tension between Mona Lisa and Newtralizer. Like they knew each other before Newt was captured by the Kraang, or something (my personal theory is that he is her "brother"/fellow warrior, whom she once looked up to, before *insert event here* happened), and will have an awesome one-on-one fight when he threatens the turtles. At least that's what I hope will happen.
OH, and that the turtles will use some sort of time travel twist to restore Earth, and hopefully save Splinter in the process. But that one is kinda obvious haha!

Good thing the Turtles just made a friend with time travel powers so they can go back in time and stop all this.
Looking forward to season 4, but also worried it might go down the route the 2003 series did with "Fast Forward" with all this space travel stuff, and everyone knows how bad that season was.
But with regards to this finale, whilst it was great to watch, they ended it in such a way that it's almost predictable as to what is going to happen next. The turtles will find a way with Renet I reckon to reverse time and reverse everything that happened to Earth and that includes stopping the Triceraton invasion from ever happening. Best way I can describe it is with Back to the Future Part 2, where Marty and Doc must go back in time to change what happens in the future in 1985 before Biff gets the book. Guarantee this is what the next 10 episodes or more will be similar too.
To me, if they ended this series with no invasion or destruction of Earth with all the characters, but only left it where Splinter gets killed by Shredder, that would have left a huge cliffhanger with a lot more suspension which would've sparked greater speculation for the next series as it will make fans question "Is Splinter really gone?" or "Can he be brought back?". But destroying the whole of Earth with all the characters? Too predictable as to what season 4 will be about. Everything will be back to normal within 10 episodes. 100% sure about it.

I'm a Whovian, and I've already been watching TMNT for quite a long time now. Having David "The 10th Doctor" Tennant on the show now is just a bonus for me.
Also, it really hit me hard when I watched Splinter die!
OK I don't know if this is going to happen on season 4 but I think what's going to happen is somehow the Utrons or Krang got everyone off of earth before it was sucked up(or everyone important at least) And all of them will be in giant healing containers. Like how in the 2000 version of TMNT splinter "died" but he was saved by the Utrons.
Also you gotta wonder. What new show are they going to watch now? Some wierd space show? Space anime? Space reality TV?

Well if the Turtles do go back in time to stop this threat they might have to do some other stuff first like face that cosmic threat Professor Honeycutt mentioned. They will probably go before Zog sent the beacon and defeat the Triceraton before they even attack Earth.
I fell bad for my lil brother. He was in LA when the finale happened. I told him I watched it which I didn't. I told him Splinter dies and the turtles go to space. So when we watched it we were freaking out like crazy.

My prediction is that the gang will have some adventures more centering around time and space (which would be a clever reference dealing with time seeing as how David Tennant is now part of the cast.)....As far as the time aspect goes...I don't think the series will literally wipe off planet earth forever(seeing as how we have so many characters who were supposedly killed off that we've barley learned anything about.) so, I think they'll travel back in time and save everything after gaining knowledge about the Triceretons.
