  • Taipei 101 - How it resists earthquakes 🇹🇼
Taipei 101 was the tallest building in the world when it opened in 2004. In 2024, it is the 11th tallest (1st - Burj Kalifa, 2nd - Malaysia's Merdeka 118 & 3rd - Shanghai Tower).
Taipei 101 is the most recognizable icon of Taipei and its New Year Eve fireworks are amongst the best in the world. Taipei 101 has 101 stories and reaches a height, including the spire, of 508 metres. This building is built to withstand strong earthquakes and typhoons. It uses a giant steel ball called the Tuned Mass Damper at the top of the building which acts like a pendulum, to stabilize the building during earthquakes and typhoons. This stabilizing mechanism will be shown and explained in this video. Thanks for watching 😀

Watching the panoramic scene of Taipei from Taipei 101, We remembered your video content mentioning the wind damper, which uses a giant steel ball pendulum function to withstand earthquakes and typhoons and stabilize the building.
Each country sees changes in height every year, but it seems that earthquake resilience, facilities, and convenience, are improving year by year!
We’ve heard that it was built on land considered good vengeance shui, but when you get off the elevator, the spacious glass- covered area is truly breathtaking, with realistic video footage.☝️🌟

Visiting Taipei 101 was like visiting the other towers, until we saw them showing and explaining (through videos) how the tower is stabilized during earthquakes and strong winds. It was interesting to me as I learnt something new.
Yosh and Iku, thanks for your support and encouragement. I will continue to make videos of Singapore and the overseas places that I visit. Sharing videos of popular places as well as off-the-beaten-path places. My Talad Noi video is an example. Have a great week ahead. Cheers!

The view from 101 building is incredible 💜👍🏼 it’s a great sightseeing place with lots of amenities. It’s cool that they designed the earthquake reducing elements, which is super important 💜👍🏼

The world's tall buildings have these Tuned Mass Damper system but are hidden away from the public. Taipei 101 made this into a tourism attraction! This visit is educational for me as I had always wondered how tall buildings stay steady during strong winds and typhoons.

i really want to go up to the top of the taipei 101 tower. however, it was severely disrupted by the shopping stop next to the tower for more than 1 hour as part of group tour back in 2015. I was so furious about that since then and many other tour colleagues also complained badly about the shopping stops in taiwan. i guess you went to taiwan as an individual which I really want to do for my next trip there to avoid all the shopping stops.
nevertheless, I am looking forward to visit the new observatory deck at the merdeka 118 tower overlooking the entire kuala lumpur city. we will enjoy the glass lift ride while on our way up to the observation deck with stunning northern views of the kl skyline including the iconic petronas twin towers (previously the tallest building in the world before taipei 101) and kl tower. as I said earlier on new year's day, I hope that the organisers will arrange the firework displays not only for the new year countdown but also the merdeka countdown in august at the merdeka tower.

Yes I went with family on a free and easy vacation and went up the tower directly. No annoying shopping stops. The Tuned Mass Damper was new knowledge to me and this was a worthwhile trip. I wished that they should have used glass barriers instead of the metal strip barriers at the open observation deck.
I hope to visit the Merdeka 118 tower in the future too. Thanks for your comment that reminded me to visit there.
