Magnificent! No words can describe Adrian Belew's mastership, not only of his instrument, or even his great musicianship, but his amazing connection with the audience. No one like him. Absolutely beautiful.
I could(and have) listen to this a 100 times over. AB finds a way to make the whole performance infectious. 10 years and 6000 miles removed and you can really still feel the energy in that place. It makes me giddy every time I hear/see it.
Heard this in a darkened (with one too many beers inside me) bedroom more years ago than I care to remember. Sobered-up and listened again and to say I was blown away by Mr.Belew was and remains the understatement of a lifetime..... Funk/Soul/Rock/Blues/Baroq all mixed in there, from a musician with pure 100% class running through his veins : )
I am new to AB. Tracked him over from Bowie, mostly curious about the mystique the gold plated reputation. I have to say - what a wonderful piece of music. And the crowd - so supportive and completely in to it. Almost like you're intruding on a family reunion or something...
I saw him in Sydney last last year. He played the songs perfectly and sang with usual strength of voice. If he just sang he'd be amazing but he's one of the best guitarists in the world too. (Certified Belew Geek)
In a recent interview with Marc Maron, Adrian said Jeff Beck came backstage after one of the shows and pretended to saw off Adrian's hand, saying "You bastard!". Beck was gobsmacked that Adrian could play and sing that song at the same time, solo!
Oh, those shows were amazing. One was a Fourth of July show....1984?... Fripp walks out on stage alone and begins that gamelin tape loop thing, and we realized he was playing the Star Spangled Banner in his own way. The Levin came out with the Stick and added to it, followed by Bruford. The Belew finished it by coming on with elephant sounds. It was beyond trippy. And I do like YES as well. I prefer the classic 70s lineup, myself.
@juanbrujox, don't forget the classic rock n' roll voice, Mark Lanegan... whether that voice comes from Heaven or Hell, or both, or neither, well, that's another discussion, for another time, one which I am not currently prepared to address. Cheers!
Thanks Frank. On the other hand, I am one of those who also got to see Genesis without Gabriel, Yes with Rabin and Floyd without Waters, But Hey! I have a few under my belt, Can't complaint. Cheers. Joseph...:7)
that's a mere cab ride away from some great steakhouses in the so-called "Theatre District"... I have intel that indicates that AB is a vegtrn, like my folks, I totally tip my hat!!! FrankC32
do you refer to the "And The Name Of This Band Is Talking Heads" double LP? Please respond, as I have been searching for the fucking genius of those albums on UA-cam for longer than I would care to admit. One day it is up there, the next it is removed over some BS copyright issue. Just release the rights to the fucking song, and share the fucking money already... Thank you. Cheers!
really, he probably couldn't anyways so it doesn't matter. And yes I love coheed but, I don't think he could do it solo. no sir, i don't think so at all.
she is susceptible, he is impossible, they have their cross to bear oh what a perfect mess, oh so many sympathetic tendencies, keeps it complicated, so aggravated,,,, -FrankC32-
Genesis WITH Gabriel would b more impressive. PCollins is a pop artist, nothing more, nothing less. Become pretty much an embarrassment.... Trevor Rabin, he's great at soundtracks and finger-work, but he cannot hold a candle to Mr. Steve Howe. Rabin, no personality whatsoever, fails to exist without a history from "90125", and Floyd without Waters, well , that's just fucking preposterous, as one simply does not exist without the other, plain and simple, end of story. Cheers! Frank
I learned to play it, but I must admit with the help of tabs and videos 100 times. I was playing around 45g when I came across the acu version. A spider on a guitar neck is difficult if you haven't encountered a gim before. And finger picking would be easier because the right hand jerks up and down depending on which string you are on. A phenomenal performance by the beloved Adrian. And I've been listening to King Crimson and Robert Frip since the 80s. I saw the first album in Trieste at Ricordi's, and since then my love for Crimson hasn't stopped even today. I am 62 years old and I have been playing guitar for 53 years. Greetings - Zadar - a 3000-year-old city on the Adriatic coast. Mediterranean - Europe
I was there and remember this version like it was yesterday ,still get exited to hear it,Thanx for posting this material, brings me back great memories cause i was able to talk to Adrian and congratulate him for this song,He loved to hear it!Thanx ADRIAN and you to TIMINATOR62
@KyrionMyrthar, tipping me cap to you, me friend. Belew is amazing in himself, then Levin, Fripp, and Bruford, how did you handle it without your head exploding, seriously? Do you like YES, Steve Howe, Jon Anderson, Chris Squire, et al? FrankC32
Chris Squire is best bass player ever. And sing to. Steve Howe is extraordinery guitarist. Wakeman and Moraz is wonder piano-organ-sinth players. Andersons voice is...diferent. And Alan is wonder drumer.

briliant post, NEntv58, Belew fans can be vary provincial, exclusive d-bags, myself included. Do not be discouraged by the vibe, all we can ask is a heart-felt committment to the music, which is really simple when you stop to consider. Adrian does not ask much, which is perfect. The answers lie within the music, anyway. Best, FrankC32
Only at a King Crimson concert can you actually have a crowd accurate clap to an odd time signature, lol.
Magnificent! No words can describe Adrian Belew's mastership, not only of his instrument, or even his great musicianship, but his amazing connection with the audience. No one like him. Absolutely beautiful.
My favorite performance of this song it’s out of this world amazing!

my god! I still can´t believe the way he plays guitar!

Hey, I was there, too. This blew me away then! So nice to see it again.

Amen to that. 100% class and musicianship in just one individual. He's great.
I am new to AB. Tracked him over from Bowie, mostly curious about the mystique the gold plated reputation.

WOW, so many crimson fans. listen to them singing along
canta y encanta...adorable
wow. incredible talent.
astounding... this is just lovely
This dude is one of the biggest players still alive.
His voice comes from hell itself... With all respect Greg Lake deserves, Belew is mind-blower
this is BRILLIANT, period, end of story,
Frank
Jesus!!! I'm speechless
Astounding! 😮
this song is SOOOO fun to play. hard to sing and play at the same time though.. really hard

He's coming back to New York on the 28th to play in the cozyness of B.B. KIng's bar and grill. I'll be there...
HERMOSO!!!
¡Genial!
No, it's a Krim concert. They Opened for Tool in England (I think that's where the concert was). It's also on the Eyes Wide Open DVD.
wow.
Now thats how an acoustic SHOULD be played.
Lovely guitar playing!
Wasn't that an "ALL STAR BAND" ? I was so lucky to have the chance to see them.
Wow
He plays it instrumental the first time, then goes back in time and sings from the back somewhere.
Acoustic god!!!
@SlipNFall2g1c - you need to see what he was doing with Talking Heads live Rome 1980
Almost 1 too
Holy Crap Dude.....more than deserving to share the stage with Robert Fripp.
@guitarhawk96 yeah!
Oh, those shows were amazing. One was a Fourth of July show....1984?... Thanks Frank. On the other hand, I am one of those who also got to see Genesis without Gabriel, Yes with Rabin and Floyd without Waters, But Hey! I have a few under my belt, Can't complaint. Cheers. Joseph...:7)

As a guitarist...
This is extremely hard to play.....
And to sing over? Nah.
really, he probably couldn't anyways so it doesn't matter. And yes I love coheed but, I don't think he could do it solo. no sir, i don't think so at all.

I was knocked out by Dave Matthews doing the syncopation of "Stone" and singing it simultaneously/ this is on the same level !!!###
Hey!! any newyorkers going tonight at B.B. King's to see him? Say hi if you see me...
