Hi Mick, really enjoyed this one, good videography with the swinging seat, suggesting echoes of the past and times gone by. You are a knowlegable person seem to know all of Northumberlands secret places my friend, that Cateran Hole is supposed to be an old smugglers lair and goes in for 43 meters but chokes off and gets quite low to a crawl, there has been talk of digging further on as its unexplored but would be quite dangerous due to cave ins. Northumberland is an amazing place so full of history and I've learned something more today. atb
Cheers Damian I'm the same as you bud love all the history and landscapes of our home county and like nothing better than heading out and exploring. The Cateran Hole gives me the creeps lol and being an ex miner no way would I crawl through the low bit, 5 yards in and I just want to get out haha, Thanks for watching. Atb. Mick.
Thanks Ray. Its a great area up there steeped in history. I've seen people camping at the farmstead but never at the hole, can't think why lol. Atb. Mick.
That's a great Scottish name Mick, Blawearie, meaning tell tale story teller lol, loved the scenery, loads of nice places to camp, Ruby fare enjoyed her sell, a scary hole gets your mind wandering lol atb, D&C
Thanks Derek aye it's great border country so was probably in the hands of the Scots many years ago. Theres a good photo of the family who lived there on my other Blawearie video. Take care. Mick.
Hi Mick Blawearie what a special location it is when your there there's just a strange feeling I can't quite put a finger on what it is and as you say great view looking into the Cheviots any special location is castle hill on thrunton there's trees there that must be hundred years old again it has a special feel about it thanks for taking us along much I enjoyed it as its been quite sometime since I was last there
Cheers John. I remember the first time I went many moons ago. It was a Boxing Day and the snow was falling hard. Abandoned a trip up The Cheviot and went here instead. It left a big impression on me as you say so atmospheric. The old swing was still on the big tree and it was swaying as the wind howled. We went to look for the hole, always harder to find in the snow. Those black steps stood out in the white and the black entrance looked ominous. Me and a mate went in and soon clambered out haha. I think there is so much history up there and the sad tale of the farmstead which fell into ruin when the old lady died. A special place bud. Mick.
Another great video Mick. Enjoyed it immensely. I was going to ask after watching a couple of your Cheviot videos, if you'd thought of Bewick Moor. Now I know. I've recently been doing it from Eglingham as some of the Cheviot routes have started get crowded - and I'm so pleased I did. Not surprised it's one of your favourites. It has a special atmosphere.
Thank you Jon. Yes up there with my favourite Northumberland walks, as you say a very special atmosphere. I've been up The Cheviot a couple of times since restrictions ended and can't believe the number of people heading up, counted over 50 vehicles the last time. Thanks for watching. Take care. Mick.
Mick, a great bit of exploring with loads of interest and some great looking camp pitches. Would have loved to see you go further into Cateran Hole, maybe that's where those 2 lasses disappeared to ;-) Cheers gerry :-)
Thanks Gerry one day I will go there with a decent torch and I might be able to see where I'm going instead of stumbling around in the dark lol. Atb. Mick.

Thanks Julie. Aye the loo in the middle of nowhere haha It was there for some photo shoot for some magazine, looked like some kind of country life type thing with loads of dogs running around and people standing around in green wellies and barbour jackets while some guy was trying to photo the lot. Ruby was going mental and trying to join in. Its well worth a visit but bring a good torch lol. Take care and see you soon. Mick.

Cheers Peter. No never saw them again. I expected them to follow the track where it turns right to the hole but they must have missed it and carried on. From the hole you can see for miles and I sat there ages but never saw them again. Take care. Mick.

Gosh ... you do know some spots over there!! Followed you closely on the OS-map. That cairn is already a special one Mick. Dates from the Bronze Age if one should ask me. Is it the one near the Cateran Hill? Or Castle Hill or Blawearie? Map there is full with them. And man - were you lucky with that portaloo over there just in time! LOL You really think Ruby would dive into the Hole? If so - kit her out with a headtorch & a GoPro ... or else take me out there heh heh heh
Thanks Wilco. That is the Blawearie Cairn near to the ruined farmstead. Next time you are over we can head up there. Bring a good torch haha. The loo was there for the magazine photo shoot. Looks like the secret places are becoming less secret lol. Atb. Mick
