If you want live Carly try "You're So Vain" or even go back to the beginning with "That's the Way I've Heard it Should Be". One of my favourites is "Anticipation" that Carly wrote before a date with Cat Stevens.
"Working Girl" was a great little film with this song played at the very end.
Working Girl was a good movie, a rom-com that was nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress. Carly Simon also sang the theme song for the James Bond film, The Spy Who Loved Me. That song is Nobody Does It Better, and it hit number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. But I think You’re So Vain is probably her best known song.
Spy Who Loved Me and Let the River Run were her, by far, best!
Though I love this song, she has a lot of greater songs, imo, like "You're so vain", "The right thing to do", "Nobody does it better" or "Coming around again". She's amazing!
"Coming around again" is my favorite song of hers. It's so good!
She certainly IS!
Her entire Martha's Vineyard open air concert was stupendous! All of her better known songs
It's all on UA-cam, I believe. I especially like It's The Stuff That Dreams Are Made Of and Home. Mockingbird is not on it but as noted previously, that is a good one as well.
Yes, more Carly...if you want to hear her famous stuff, do "You're So Vain", if you want to see more of her vocal technique, go with "Nobody does it better" or "That's the Way I've always heard it should be".
Carly Simon was one of the first Pop singers to released a Standards album. Two of her big hits were "You're So Vain", and "Mockingbird" with then husband, James Taylor.
Please do more! You’re So Vain, Anticipation (which Carly just wrote while waiting to be picked up for a date), Nobody Does it Better (The Spy Who Loved Me Soundtrack), Coming Around Again, Haven’t Got Time for the Pain, You Belong To Me, and Jesse.
Carly Simon "COMING AROUND AGAIN" (original video) is sooo good!! ❤
"That's the way I heard it should be" live. Just amazing
Carly was a big deal in the 70s. Legitimate singer/songwriter.
The Spy who loved me is a Must.
One of my favorite songs of all time, more Carly, Anticipation, You're So Vain, That’s The Way I've Always Heard It Should Be
This is one of my favorite songs. You have the most INTELLIGENT and patient, reactions. With very minimal pausing and interrupting. The research at the beginning, is quite interesting and puts a bit of cultural context on the music. The World Trade Center, looming in the fog, is eerie.
I forgot about this song, thank you for doing a reaction on this.
'Working Girl' is such a cool film!!
Carly Simon is definitely a legend, great singer songwriter; I would agree that she had many great hits
Have always loved Carly Simon and her music! An amazing singer/song writer!
This is a very different sound for Carly Simon. I don't think the 80s were very kind to her, but then it wasn't terribly kind to many of the singer-songwriters. She had one good album in the late 80s and then this. I'd try You're So Vain, Nobody Does It Better, Anticipation, That's The Way They Always Said It Would Be, You Belong to Me; Haven't Got Time for the Pain. There's also Mockingbird that she recorded with her then-husband, James Taylor.
Carly is just awesome, her songwriting, and that voice!
Carly has some wonderfully poignant and insightful songs…..even several “signature” songs which successfully embody both her sonic stamp as well as her insecurities and intrepid ness. Check out “We Have no Secrets” and “Boys in the Trees”. If your goal is to dig deeper and discover true diamonds then I would suggest “Never Been Gone”, “We Just Got Here” and “We’re so Close”, the latter being an urgent tear-jerker incited by prolonged resignation. As a final feather in the cap of brilliant sadness is her rendition of “I Get Along Without You Very Well”. I dare you not to cry.
She did a good job with all the standards on her album "Torch".
“Let the River Run”, along with “Nobody Does It Better” and “Jesse”, are my favorite Carly songs, but there are a lot you could chose that would be great reactions. I love how LTRR starts, then builds and builds until it’s powerful ending. It also elicits a lot of different emotions in me: the humor of the movie, the inspiration and hopefulness of the song, the wistfulness of the 80s era now long gone…all tinged with the darkness of seeing the World Trade Center in the NYC skyline.
I remember seeing the movie with my girlfriend, and when the music started with the opening scene, we looked at each other and started laughing. It seemed especially loud in the theater, and just bombastic and over the top. But it works. It pulls you in. I can’t think of the song without the movie, and vice versa. For that reason, a very worthy Oscar winner.
I love this song!!!! Uplifting!!!!
I have everything she has recorded and is my all time favorite. She’s an original
From the classic 80's movie Working Girl. What a great time to be alive that was.
As others have said she has many great songs. My favorite song and performance is "You're So Vain" performed live at a harbor.
I'm a huge Carly Simon fan
Xx
love Love LOVE Carly Simon!
Oh this song has one if the greatest lines, begins with 'Come Run with me now...."
So glad you did this one. Most people do you're so vain or virtually any other hit of hers except this one@!❤👍🎩
6 octave gal... with a giant mouth !!!
Daughter of Simon & Schuster publisher...
Carly and LINDA RONSTADT, two greats, had RULED the 1970s. The era with the most soul.
PS::: this is probably my LEAST favorite Carly track... try YOUR SO VAIN.
I JUST REALIZED WHAT CURRENT VOCALLIST REMINDS ME OF carly power and tone... the FROZEN CROWN (ITALIAN POWER METAL) FRONT WOMAN, giada. .. sings in English.
@@rickrack4812 Agree re: this song. You're So Vain shows off her talent.
If you know the history of Pop music you must know Carly Simon is one of the premier singer song writers of the Rock era!
I have a deep admiration & love for Carly and her music. Her songs have a way of uplifting my spirits. However, it's been challenging for me to fully enjoy her music and watch her in videos like this, knowing that she has endured tremendous loss in the past year. In 2022, Carly tragically lost two sisters within days of each other. The last time I saw her, she appeared unwell, which only intensifies my concern for her well-being. It saddens me to witness the passing of many of my musical idols in the last few years, and Carly would undoubtedly be one of them…I pray we still have more time with her. Her voice is incredibly unique, and her songwriting skills are truly exceptional. Praying for you Carly🙏🏽❤
She’s truly one of the great singer song writers, she remained in the spot light even when pop in the 80s 90s didn’t serve her well, continued through 2000s LONGEVITY
She was married to another singer, James Taylor, who you should also check out. "How Sweet It Is" "You've Got a Friend" and "Fire and Rain" are a few of his classics.
JT is one of my favorite artists. Love Carly Simon too.
No secrets... nice song off a nice album...
Oh the eighties hair! I’ve been a fan of Carly Simon for so long…
Look at the opening credits to the movie. Not only that but choirs around the world perform this.
Her father was the Simon of Simon & Schuster publishing. All her hits are classics, I can't even pick a favorite.
Her song "Jessie" is a gemstone.
"You Belong To Me" is a fav of mine
Carly my favourite lady
Carly is totally awesome. One of the all-time greats. Wrote and performed the song, winning an Oscar.
I love this song and the movie where it appeared. "Working Girl" starred Melanie Griffith whose daughter Dakota Johnson starred recently in the "50 Shades of Grey" movies. Melanie's mom is Tippi Hedron who starred in "The Birds". For Carly Simon, you really should listen to "You're So Vain". The rumor was always that it was about Warren Beatty.
The movie was "Working Girl" -- Harrison Ford, Melanie Griffith, Sigourney Weaver -- and an awesome film. But this song was a huge part of the soundtrack, and Carly nailed it. "World Beat" wasn't a well known sound at the time, but this track helped to make it a big thing.
Melanie Griffith who starred in this movie….was famously almost mauled by a lion in the insane movie “Roar”……which was co-starred believe it or not by her mother actress Tippi Henden……movie was released in 1981 after 10 years in production….
I would not have picked this for your first Carly Simon song. Maybe Your So Vain or Nobody Does it Better. I see others have said the same.
There are ALOT of songs from Carly Simon that you have to react to including a live version of "That's the Way I've Always Heard it Should Be". Many other wonderful songs are suggested below. Very powerful voice. She was married to James Taylor. Not sure if she remarried.
Loved this song and the movie "Working Girl"! Next up her hit song "Anticipation" please! (You'll recognize it from a ketchup commercial!) Carly Simon and Carol King ruled the 1970's!
Add Joni Mitchell and I might agree for female singer/songwriters.
Check out You're so vain , Anticipation and the live version of Mockingbird a duet with her then husband James Taylor from the 1980 No Nukes concert at MSG c. 1979-1980 and Nobody does it better from the james bond film The spy who loved me
Nobody Does It Better!
Artists worked very hard back then. They tried to get recorded and played on the airwaves on a dream and a prayer, they sang like birds and had passion and wrote their own songs and learned to play an instrument such as the guitar or the piano or whatever fit their personality, sang from the soul with wonderfuly unique and modulated voices, had a message that uplifted their audiences; we didn't have any autotune and few commercial song writers to turn mediocre performers such as Arianna Grande into pop superstars.
They shone because they had true talent, were full of energy, and provided the soundtrack for all the little details of our lives, our first kiss, first broken bone, first encounter with a bully, first car and first accident and first traffic ticket, family gatherings and New Years and the Fourth of July.
The artists that dominated the airwaves on the AM/FM radio were gods. And I have the records and eight-tracks to prove it.
Far out, man, stay groovy. Peace.
You certainly said it didn’t you. No audio tune, no production teams where several people write lyrics to one song, She, Carole King, Joni Mitchell AMAZING
@@user-hr4lq8ue8j Right on. 🤘😎🤘
"Carly Simon - Coming Around Again (Live At Grand Central - Official Video)" and this is a live performance...And if you'd like to see another suggestion for another one of her very popular hit songs check out "Carly Simon - Nobody Does It Better - The Spy Who Loved Me" (Live) 🎶
Check out You Belong To Me, the studio version. She has so many hits!
She is beyond amazing. One day listen to That's The Way I've Always Heard it Should Be.
ANTICIPATION (studio track)will always be my 'pure' Carly Simon hit. YOU'RE SO VAIN is next, and MOCKINGBIRD with her then-husband James Taylor is real fun. For a James Taylor intro FIRE AND RAIN (the original studio cut) is a must. WALKING MAN from the album Walking Man is too.
Carly tem muitas músicas boas e porque não dizer ótimas, mas sugiro apenas uma, que gosto muito: Life Is Eternal ao vivo é linda demais.
Why dies this give me “Christmas Carol’ vibes?
She has the worst stage fright, but She did a live version of "Mockingbird" with then husband James Taylor at the 'No Nukes" concert. Also a live concert in Grand Central Station accompanied by a young Harry Connick Jr. and another live concert at Martha's Vineyard (small, intimate gathering), my favorite.
I forgot this song; "The Spy Who Loved Me".
This song was popular partly because Working Girl was so popular and everyone equated the 2. Her best soundtrack is Coming Around Again from Heartburn. Carly is a wonderful talent - her best song isThat's the Way I've Heard it Should Be and her biggest hit was You’re So Vain
Thanks
Cutie. Peace.
To get a true Carly, need to hear "You're So Vain". That is all.
The twin towers in the background give ne chills.
Carly is such a joy
That wasn't the opening of the movie -- all of those images were from the movie Working Girl and this is a music video made from the highlights. It's a good movie - a little dated now, but funny.
You're so Vain. Nobody Does It Better. Mockingbird (live with James Taylor).
A slightly different version of this appears in the film🎩
Nobody Does It Better which is anothet theme song-- from The Spy Who Loved Me-- might've been a better first listen.
That's the Way I Always Heard It Should Be...
Haven't Got Time for the Pain...
Anticipation...
Jessie...
And a plethora of more
The movie is Working Girl..... great chick flick
Glad you got to her, but this is NOT the song of hers to begin with. “You’re so Vain”, “Nobody Does it Better”, “That’s the Way I’ve Always Heard it Should be…”…
There is a video of her playing “You’re so Vain” live by water. It is a good one to listen to and also rare. She suffered EXTREME stage fright, so getting a chance to see her live is a rarity. She is one of the great of the singer songwriters like Carole King -you should listen to the entire Tapestry album if you haven’t: amazing - James Taylor (I believe they dated.) She is part of that whole group of talented singer songwriters. Enjoy. 😊
Listen to You’re So Vain
You're So Vain, It's time we moved in together, Coming Around Again, Nobody Does It Better (James Bond Theme), Anticipation, Jessie....
It's a shame to start your Carly journey here. I'm a big fan, but this one just never did it for me. Her work in the 70's was really important. "You're So Vain" is her signature song.
Not a bad flick
Then you MUST watch "Working Girl". And that goes for man or woman!!! Top notch movie!!! And it closed the movie.
You definitely need to hear something else.
Agreed, she has so many better songs than this one.
I really shouldn't, but I find Carly Simon strangely attractive in this video.
I always felt the mastering on this song was a bit off. Thus get your take on it. Dunno if she was known for having a big voice. More an intimate voice. She’s a storyteller.
Her ex husband James Taylor, and good friend Carole King aren't too shabby, either. And this is far from her best work.
Not the best Carly Simon song to intro you to her talents albeit a good song .Read your comments, those folks know what they speak of.
awful song ....reccording tech didn't start to vastly improve until the early 80's
My favorite of all her songs. I'm afraid I fail to find anything "weird" about the recording.
