Carly is a whole lovely vibe. 👑🥰
Carly Simon and James Taylor were great together. ❤❤
This was at the No Nukes concert which was fantastic. They were married for about 10 years and had two children, but unfortunately James’ drug addictions destroyed the marriage.
"79 MSG I was there. Carly was not expected to be there. Her name was not on any of the promotional material. Back then we all knew of her debilitating stage fright.
Carly's first notes were from behind the curtain. We all knew it was her voice instantly. A duet? Wow!
When she bounced onto the stage our excitement fed her excitement fed James' excitement.
Many great talents onstage that night. This performance remains my most treasured memory of that evening.
WOW…what a memory ❤
I am a big Carly Simon fan so very happy to see this. What a fun performance. Love the way she dances around barefoot.
Epic! Please do That's The Way I Always Heard It Should Be by Carly when she was contemplating marriage to James and expressing eloquent reservations. A very beautiful song with ethereal vocals and lyrics. You will love it, Brother Harri!
Yes and you must do her live version 1971 on HER YT channel. Love them both.
James Taylor was my first concert. Carole King opened the show. Amazing! He’s wonderful and these two are great together. I love finding live performances like this. That guitarist with the blonde curly hair is Waddy Wachtell. He ended up in Linda Ronstadt’s band. He’s great. It’s a fantastic one! Thank you John Chu! Excellent choice 🌺✌️
Thank you for mentioning him! I immediately stopped the video and tried to find him but my problem was…Ive seen him playing with numerous bands over the years and none were coming to mind. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waddy_Wachtel
Me to, masonic temple in detroit. Great show
I have always loved this song. Amazing, isn't it, that they took a children's song and turned it into something magical. I love them both, together and individually. You can dive into rabbit holes for each of them, so many good tunes!
This is my favorite duet ever!
Love this performance - so upbeat and fun! Another great duo by them is "Close your eyes" written by James.
The song was actually derived from a lullaby from the 1800s.
Good choice! Lovely!
Love these two. Sadly drugs and alcohol played a huge roll in their marriage and divorce.
From what I remember, James' heroin addiction played a big part in their split.
James said his primary drugs were opioids (an 18 year addiction).
@@wnsafford1854 then went to heroin Carly said, he just didn't want to stay settled down once that stuff takes you..
@@Ace-ke7fq I should have phrased that better. What I meant was, James said his primary drugs were any kind of opiates (not just heroin). He’d used heroin by 1967. He said he fell in with heroin addicts while with The Flying Machine (1966-67), the drummer was a heroin addict & “As soon as I was introduced to opiates, I was gone”, beginning an active addiction (on & off) lasting 18-19 years (so, till about 1984-86).
Love James Taylor. What a great singer songwriter. His style is more folk rock. I grew up with his music & had some of his records. He is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, having sold more than 100 million records worldwide. "You've Got A Friend" was a big hit for him in 1971 & was written by Carole King. Some other hits were "Fire and Rain", "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)", "Handy Man", "Sweet Baby James", "Carolina in My Mind", "Shower the People" & "Your Smiling Face". He was married at one time to Carly Simon. They had a few duets together including "Mockingbird" & "Devoted to You". Carly has had a lot of great songs in her solo career too.
Mocking Bird is an old American lullaby. They really rearranged it for this concert. I'm pretty sure this concert was in the No Nukes concert in the '70's.
For my 6th birthday in 1974 my mom gave me a Mickey Mouse record player and four 45 singles "Seasons in the Sun by Terry Jacks, Spiders and Snakes" by Jim Stafford ; The Locomotion by Grand funk railroad and this version of "Mockingbird" 😁
Seasons In The Sun! oh no.
So much fun! They were GOLDEN.
James Taylor does a lot of upbeat music. He is hilarious in concert.
This is a great, and high-charting (#5 on the US charts upon its release in 1974), version of this 1963 Inez and Charlie Foxx song, who also had a hit with it. I think this performance is from the 1979 No Nukes concert at Madison Square Garden. That's probably partly why they're so exuberant here; they're among thousands of people working toward a worthy cause with enormous public support. My favorite version of this song is a 1965 cover by Aretha Franklin and Ray Johnson, who perform it live here: ua-cam.com/video/tbTV6D_a0m0/v-deo.html
Aretha was amazing but the other guy...not so much. It's the chemistry between James and Carly that makes this performance so great.
I saw James Taylor in concert twice. Once with Carol King! They were amazing!!
I agree with you completely Harry on everything you just said...
Saw James Taylor in Columbus Ohio a few years ago. He was magnificent.
As a child, one of our fave songs to sing! Nothing beats their beautiful voices singing this song!
I have watched this video hundreds of times....even have video saved on phone💜💜
Yes, I think this the most upbeat song for them both. I love Fire and Rain by Taylor. Great reaction Harri!
Awesome!
It’s a shame things got in the way of their love. Always did love James Taylor; for a very different take from him, please react to Steamroller. Carly came from a family of singers;her mother said she sang each of her three daughters into the world,a beautiful woman. Carly’s oldest sister became an opera singer, her second sister was also a professional singer, more into folk. All four women are beautiful and I recently saw them celebrating their mother’s birthday, singing to her, though I don’t know how recently it was filmed.
One of my favorite live performance.
Such a fun performance!
As for some people in the comments saying this performance was not good compared to the original, that may well be, but geez, nothing could be more exuberant compared to this joyful performance, and I think their voices sound great!
They're so sexy together. The energy level is amazing.
No one ever knew it and you wouldn't expect Carly Simon grew up wealthy from the Simon & Schuster publishing Fortune but she was is a real person pretty much down to earth considering her popularity
Woah, thank you Harry, you keep reacting to the stuff nobody else goes near! 🤓😁 Perhaps you'd consider reacting to James Taylor and Carly Simon live at their home, performing "Close Your Eyes". I assure you, it's so magical and touching. Stay well ☮️🕊️👼
Once again my next choice has been pulled right out from under me. But I couldn't be happier. When this exhilarating performance was filmed at the No Nukes festival in 1985, James and Carly had been divorced for a fairly short time. There was trepidation on James' part about how it would go, since the breakup had been less than friendly (they both admitted to adulatory). He needn't have worried. This really is one of my top 5 music videos. Watch as James starts it out, a bit low key and, to my eyes, nervous. Then Carly cruises on stage to join him. She is cooking. James relaxes and, eventually, becomes involved in the pure joy of the performance. This truly is rock and roll at it's best. They sing, they dance, they strut. And, above all, they have a great time. Great pick Mr. Chu, and great reaction Harri.
No Nukes was 1979. This was not long before they separated
Great music and great reaction!
And Carly has always suffered stage fright believe it or not! Love them both forever!
Lee Sklar back there in the back laying the bass line down.
Saw James Taylor in concert a few years ago. Great concert. Love fire and rain. He wrote it about three things. His friends suicide, his drug addiction, and the break up of his band.
I actually bought this single, loved it then, haven't heard it for years!! Still a great song, adding it to my play list right now!!!😂😂😂🇬🇧🇬🇧
Oh hell, I love this! This is part of my “car ride playlist” and believe me when I tell you, I’m singing!
I enjoyed this version and your enthusiasm, Harri. It was strange seeing JT without his guitar. So many great songs between the two of them(as separate artists).
Heroin is why they had problems. Sad but true.
Your four year old will like it, Harry! Look for Carly's children's song, "Itsy
Bitsy Spider." She will like that too.
I haven't seen a reactor do this. Although have suggested. Mockingbird is an old classic song. Been done by many over the years. It's just so much fun to watch them. Amazing considering Carly's stage fright was a huge battle for her over the years. Yes, she was barefoot.
Carly Simon coming around again
🥰🎶🥰🎶
Song is nearly 50 years old, time marches on and almost always result is for the worst. Always liked this, almost certain it's a cover. I prefer her singing but everyone has different musical taste.
I loved their harmonies on this!
To answer your question about why they would get divorced …. James had a heroin addition.
Mockingbird was an old R&B hit from the early 60’s or earlier. ❤
James was addicted to heroin for about 18 years. It wrecked their marriage. They had two kids. James is happily married and settled now.
He missed it cause he was talking through it. James coming in , his move. Auh it was so quick so right on. He missed it. We at home, especially , at that age with the artists , are looking at you guys reaction, we know what caught us, so we appreciate seeing that which caught us, catch you also.
Auh auh auh Ya missed it, it was nothing like pow in the face but it was a sudden quick cool voice and move.
He chances the tune, the melody the something a little and it adds to a great performance.
If I remember right. It was No Nukes concert/fundraiser.
James had a brief relationship with Joni Mitchell. Her song cold blue steel and sweet fire is about her observations of James heroin addiction
This song takes me back to my youth! Always liked it. Carly and James ARE magical together, just like Jason Ricci (pronounced Richey) and the harmonica. When you watch the video the first thing you might think is, "This guy should put a shirt on." Your second thought may very well be, "Well, his voice is okay, but nothing to write home about." And then you'll probably think, "When is he going to play the damn thing?!" Then at 4:36 he goes into a solo that will have you thinking "If I could do ANYTHING as well as this main plays the harmonica, folks would call me a genius." On UA-cam: JASON RICCI & NEW BLOOD LBRC 2010 "Take A Walk On The Wild Side" Mainstage
James did back up vocals for Carly on her "No Secrets" album. Carly did back up vocals on a few of James's songs as well. They were married for ( I think) 8-9 years and had two children. Their son Ben is also a musician. I think they broke up in the early 80's or just before that. Also, they have between them so many hit songs--but both put out (their own) record doing the song "My Romance" and I don't know who did it better...
This was such a good song and they were such a great couple it just reminded me seeing James Taylor here that you have to listen to I think it’s gonna work out fine which is an old Ike and Tina song that James Taylor did with Linda Ronstadt and it is a great rockin number don’t look for a live video of it just listen to the studio album cut from Linda’s album get closer
I do enjoy hearing them sing this song. Toby Keith (country singer) did a cover of this song. Maybe you may want to check it out.
You may have heard the Inez and Charlie Foxx version who is also wrote the song.
I listened to a story from someone about how when they were teenagers they were picked up hitchhiking by Simon and Taylor while on Martha's Vineyard. The entire time Simon and Taylor were arguing like a miserable old couple about a barbecue grill they had and whether to buy a new one. Said it was seriously disheartening (and that Simon was much nicer than Taylor).
James Taylor's song "Her Town" is about their breakup
You ought to check out more from both of them
This song was originally written by Inez and Charlie Foxx in 1963. They had a big hit then
HARRI, HARRI, HARRI, If you don't give me a heart today, I'm gonna find myself a new bestay! GARY, GARY, GARY
Hahahaha My man! Where have you been? Long time! 😅😂
@@HarriBestReactions Dude! I've been first 20, 50 ,100, 33, and you've been ghosting me, like that fake Ukrainian pilot.
I've been funny too!
IE, "Have you heard BLOWIN' IN THE WIND by Dudley, and Eunice?
Shoulda got a like on that one mate!
I forgive you! Too busy, for the little people, you are! Gary X 3
@@HarriBestReactions I'm a poet, and I don't know it...
Married and had 2 children
Simon was Mick jaggers pet at one time. She wrote a song about him in which him and James Taylor sang back up. Till Jagger found out that it was about him. He wrote a song to her called. Star fu*ker
Are you talking about You're So Vain? I thought that was about Warren Beatty.
An old song that they jazzed up. By the way, Carly was supposed to be quite shy about going on stage.
James lost in love due to his heroin dependency.
James was into drugs and drink heavy at one time….precipitated the breakup.
Charlie and Inez Foxx best version
Nobody sings it like the original INEZ & CHARLES FOXX !!!
I feel so bad but whenever I hear this song I think of Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniel's version in Dumb and Dumber.. Bad huh? 🤪 Sorry.
No shoes Carly goes barefoot! At least in the 1970s !
The studio or radio version much better. They released this together big hit in the 70's
70’s maybe?
Or you mean the original?
Cute, but you should listen to the original by Charlie and Inez Foxx.
Good stuff. However the studio version is soooo much better. Live recordings bite.
They probably had too many schedule conflicts, and they were probably more productive when they were alone.
He was a heroin addict.
Love James and Carly but this pales in comparison to the original by Inez and Charlie Foxx.
They could have never stayed married because of the talent and ego , they were just destined to fail .
James had a heroin addiction which destroyed the marriage.
one word unfortunately. heroin
They broke up because look at him, his ragged junky, alcoholic phase.
His heroin habit
Carly was drunk, AND off-key! GGG This version sucked
I love this version. ugh
