Wow. I had the strangest reaction to hearing this song for the first time in decades. I teared up. I think it hit me on 2 levels. Just the nostalgia of taking me back to the late 70s and what was going on with me at that time. And then the idea and imagery of the song in present day. Because that is where I am in life now. Parents passed away, nothing left for me there, so I moved far away near the water. I'm content and happy.

I think a B is pretty spot on. It's a solid song and recording but I can't think of a single aspect of it that makes it stand out in the grand scheme of things. There's nothing particularly ground breaking, unique, or ear-catching about the arrangement, the performances, etc. Its not doing anything that a hundred other songs had done at that point. Its just a solid, but not particularly noteworthy ballad. So a B fits. Its a professionally written, performed and recorded piece of music. But compared against the whole of music, or even just the whole of music that Andy & Alex have heard - B feels right.

I grew up with LRB playing in my house constantly, on vinyl and 8-track, and they have better songs than this. It's a perfectly good song, but they can't all be S tier. This is their song where everyone at the concert lights their lighter, and slows things down a bit, and it serves It's purpose. I often disagree with both these guys, but I always thought this song kind of dragged on too much, but with inspirational lyrics to rescue it. I'd much rather hear Lonesome Loser or The Night Owls.

December 1979, I was discharged from the navy after a 4-year enlistment and I felt like so much was expected of me from family and friends. I didn’t want to let them down by my choices but I had to live my life as I saw best. This song, more than any other, resonated with me. I identified with its mentions of being out on the water and the solitude I found there in the middle of the Pacific, especially at night with the moon overhead - the endless horizon - what awaited me beyond that horizon? 45 years later and this song still causes me to pause what I’m doing and recall its meaning in my life then and now.

This happens to be one of my all time favorite songs. I always put it in playlists of "relaxing" music, and it's generally in a number of my various playlists. A very very long time ago I worked at a "box" store and they played music on cassette tapes over the speakers. I asked if I could make 2 and they said sure. One of the 2 had this song. It's just...such a chill song and a vibe, but also hopeful and like a comforting blanket. Yacht Rock is not my favorite genre, but there is Something about THIS song. Thanks guys!

I am very close to leaving my "pre-arranged" life (job) and getting some alone time. I get it when they meant a "Cool Change".

The LRB you saw is nothing to do with the original band who formed in Oz in the 70s.
It's effectively a LRB cover band who stole the name.

@@philipmartin5610 No... just telling it like it is.
Litle River band were an Australian band formed in the mid 70s and played until the mid to late 80s. The band that calls themselves LRB (Little River Band) in the States is just an American band that has a member (who is American) who happened to play a short period of time in the original line up as an additional guitarist during some tours of the States in the late 80s. He then had the idea to register the name "Little River Band" for himself (ie stole it) and has been touring for decades as LRB ... with no connection at all to the original members.
When the original members wanted to tour as LRB 10 or 15 years back he stopped them with a legal injunction.
      Nice guy.

I like the words 'cool change'. I don't see it like a slang hip or cool but instead to me it always fit in with being out on the ocean and enjoying a cool breeze like the first senence brings out 'sailing on the cool and bright clear water.' Basically to me it's like making a cool, smooth and easy change in life. I guess it's how each person hears it but I think the words fit perfectly.

Deep Purple: "Strange Kind Of Woman", "My Woman From Tokyo"; Heart: "Kick It Out", "Cook With Fire"; The Cars: "You're All I've Got Tonight" (Elliot Easton guitar banger...so much guitar!); Santana: "She's Not There" (yes, Zombies cover), "No One To Depend On"; The Guess Who: "No Time" (fuzzy guitars galore); Paul McCartney: "Helen Wheels" (non-album single from the Band On The Run sessions); Creedence Clearwater Revival: "Midnight Special"; Velvet Underground: "Sweet Jane", "Cool It Down"; Sex Pistols: "Pretty Vacant"; Nirvana: "Come As You Are", "All Apologies"

The song is an A++ if you ask me. The harmonies, the imagery not to mention it's like an anthem for the introvert. Great song. Also, not sure if you get it or not but in Australia a " Cool Change" is a weather front! It's a cold front (to Americans) and you would hear your local weatherman say that on the TV weather report and you can imagine in Australia a cold front or cool change is a very, very welcome thing because it's so hot there. Now does that give more depth to the song?
