I was so lucky as a kid, I feel, because my mom loved music of all kinds so much and at that time she had so many albums and the little 45 records she used to let me listen to and that is what I grew up loving (and I still have them). Old Mowtown and all of it. Of course she loved Janis as well. But I have always loved older sounds. There was nothing back then to really "hide" or change the voice. You either had a good one or not. lol I enjoy watching people discover songs that are older that they have never experienced before, especially when that song speaks to them.
Janis is one in a million. You do not see this passion these days. Yes, there is talent but not like back in the day. Honestly. I have never heard anyone get on her level. She died young. 27 club. I really feel she would've been a great. In the industry for a long time. She had demons though. Her vice was Southern comfort liqour. She was an alcoholic. She was really something else. She is from Port Arthur Texas. She was a loner. In college or high school, not sure which one, they nominated her "UGLIEST MAN". SMFH. I watched this documentary on PBS about her. When she got famous she went back to her hometown & saw people she knew from back then. They were asking her for autographs & she laughed. She said "Didn't you nominate me ugliest man?" Wow. Poor baby was so talented & unappreciated cause she wasn't "gorgeous ". Efffff all that! She was a queen & so ahead of her time. My Gma gave me her Pearl album when I was like in 5th grade. I was OBSESSED! A lil girl in the 90s bummping Janis Joplin. Lol. Anyways, loved the reaction. Loved how you really listened. I am a new subscriber & hope to see a lot more. I have so many suggestions if you want. I love old music. Take care. One love. 🖤🖤🖤
This made me so happy thank you for reacting! She is my absolute favorite. I highly recommend her live performances of work me lord in Stockholm, her live cry baby performance, and live ball & chain performance at Monterey pop festival!
This is a beautiful song. One of my all time favourite songs. The original is from the 30’s, it’s from the musical Porgy and Bess. All the greatest ladies have sung this song. Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Mahalia Jackson. This song is epic, Janis’ version is more pop rock than the original version obviously. But it’s glorious in its own right. Mad props💕.
This is my favorite Janis performance. She is a legend even though she only made 4 albums and died at 27. If you like raspy singers try Beth Hart. I would recommend the song Baddest blues. I would also recommend my favorite singer Kelly Clarkson. Try I will always love you from the ACM awards.
Eminem actually sampled this song for his "Rock Bottom" song. You can hear it clearly in the beginning of "Rock Bottom" where he samples the opening of this song. My 1st favorite artist being appreciated by my 2nd favorite. Love it! Lol This is my favorite Janis song
Please shes amazing ❤

She had so much pain in her life. She died way to early. Unfortunately a member of the 27 club, to many talents have joined that club.
