I saw her perform this live in 1968 in a small club which was just a warehouse in Philly called the Electric Factory with Big Brother and the Holding Company. The club was so packed with people that you couldn't move. She was mesmerizing. She just gave her whole soul to her music.
Wow.... that amazing, wish I was there ✌😎 I've been watching the new Queen of Soul ( Janice 2.0 if you will ) Beth Hart ! This lady is unbelievable, she can do it all & like Janice has her own demons but Beth fought them & has made it back 😇🎙 Check-out: Beth Hart - Am I The One ( Live at Paradiso ) she wrote this song at age 17 It's a live performance you will never forget... just wild, raw & out there holding nothing back ! Since then she is a bit more reformed but still gives 200% ( kinda reminds me of Mark Farner of GFR in that way ) More great songs from Beth... Caught Out In The Rain ( Live at Royal Albert Hall ) I'd Rather Go Blind I'll Take Care Of You Close To My Fire Joy Something Got A Hold On Me Nutbush City Limits ( Better than Tina 😉 ) Leave The Light On ( Live at the Bing Lounge ) ( this one will pull at your heartstrings ❤ ) Also anything with Beth & Joe Bonamassa : those two together... Magic 😇🎙 😎🎸 There last album... Black Coffee has covers of great Classic Soul & Blues tunes ! This lady is a throwback to the great Nightclub performers of the 30's - 50's she puts every ounce of energy into her performance.... once you see her perform you will be hooked ! Thank you for the message: Stay safe & healthy ... keep rockin' ✌😎
That smokey gravel that she does in most of this song is all under her control. She could sing crystal clear and powerful or husky, gravel, smokey all at will.
Janis has always been my favorite singer, for the few short years we had with her, she crushed it! She left us with her soul and that's why she's still loved by all who listens to her music! Janis was the real deal, even to this day...
Janis and Freddie Mercury are the only performers who give me goosebumps no matter how many times I’ve heard them. R.I.P. Janis R.I.P. Freddie you are missed. No one has ever been better.
Summertime was written in the mid 30's by George Gershwin for the opera "Porgy and Bess". Have heard many covers but Ella Fitzgerald in the 60's and Janis' versions are my favorites. Great work you guys!
She's so amazing. There is so much soul in her singing that makes up for the technical flaws. She didn't give a damn about technicalities though and, her singing was just her heart coming out. Love it ♥️
just a day or 2 ago i watched someone else do a reaction to janis joplin doing another song, and they said pretty much the same thing. they also mentioned that they love the imperfections in her voice and that they thought that's exactly what made her such a great singer. i guess i'd never thought about it, because i grew up with her and my thinking had always been kinda that she has a great voice, is such a great singer, and that'a just the way things are. i love seeing these songs through someone else's eyes so i can get a new perspective.
Another great musical talent to come out of Texas. Thanks for the Janis love. The studio version is one of my favorite pieces anyone has done. Soul crushingly beautiful. Don't get me wrong, seeing her perform live is amazing, but painful. I was crushed when she died and relate to her on a personal level.
I get the impression Travis really liked that 😂. Yes, there are thousands of singers but it's rare to find someone who, with their voice, can tell a story like that.
I am so loving your reactions‼️. Watched some of your SRV and those made me subscribe. I recently watched your reaction to Janis at Monterey Pop, Ball and Chain. I loved your awe and appreciation for my girl. I got to see her in person and that is life transforming! You guys would have fit right in back in the day and that is a compliment from one that was there. You guys really get it and appreciate it as well. ✌️🦋 I know I was one who asked you to do Summertime so it made my day to see this pop up! And yes letting your heart and soul flow through your music is what people respond to. You need the technical skill to excel but then let it loose. Think Stevie Ray 🎸🎶‼️
The last song of this concert (Stockholm, Sweden 69) blows away anything l've seen live. 'Work me Lord' which you reacted to already (but got the wrong performance of that song) is the most passionate performance of a song l've ever witnessed. Please give it a go, you won't regret it.
Imagine 1969 18yrs old just graduated, Summer of 69 first hit of Acid this(Janis), The Doors, Hendrix, The Stones, The Beatles, on and on and on were FM radio play. (no auto-tune back then). No wonder I'm 70 and still get off on Led Zeppelin but also love Tupac, go figure!
There is a super strong connection between her vocal talent and technique and that of Layne Staley from Alice In Chains…..they don’t conform to others expectations….they communicate through their emotions and resonances
This song is just Janis at one of her very best, Little Girl Blue is in that category also. Not that Janis didn’t open her mouth to sing without the punched in the gut effect that goes with it. 100% agree. Janis never stepped on stage when she didn’t put it all out there.
No one like Janis. A member of the infamous "27 club", along with Jimi Hendrix, and Jim Morrison of The Doors. That is so weird. All were superstars of Rock and Roll at the same time, and ended up dead at age 27. All three are Legends of Rock/Blues.
For another great story teller but of a little different shift in the musical style, you should do a reaction to, Bobby Gentry - "Ode To Billy Joe". If you do, be 'SURE' to react to the live BBC performance she did in 1968. It is simply mesmerizing!
no make up..no hair style... no costumes... no fan fare... no props...and yet ?..lol....name an artist today that can do what she did...lol ... this was how music was made during our time, kids....peace

Oh how I envy you!

Beth is incredible. Thank God she survived her issues in the past.
@@PittDaddy Amen for that ! ❤
Bill lucky you
That smokey gravel that she does in most of this song is all under her control. She could sing crystal clear and powerful or husky, gravel, smokey all at will.
Hey Travis and Suzy, you rock guys! I'm super rapt you dig Janis. She's the Queen of Rock and blues
This one brings tears to my eyes for some reason. I love all her songs.
Am I hardcore metal head but this chick was the best vocalist ever. She was all heart and soul
I think this is Janice's signature song and performance, loved it 50 plus years ago and still do today
Janis has always been my favorite singer, for the few short years we had with her, she crushed it! She left us with her soul and that's why she's still loved by all who listens to her music! Janis was the real deal, even to this day...
Few performers can give me goosebumps, but she does it every time
Great choice! You can't go wrong with Janis Joplin!✌
Her vocals were pure emotion ❤
Nobody better..man or beast
This was always my favorite Janis song, also!!
They had to feel her soul !! They took her!!!👽👽🛸🛸💕💕🙏🙏
Now that's real talent we need to bring all this music back on line
I FUCKING LOVE that you picked this version, is the best version out there imo. 💥❤️
Janis and Freddie Mercury are the only performers who give me goosebumps no matter how many times I’ve heard them. R.I.P. Janis R.I.P. Freddie you are missed. No one has ever been better.
My favourite Janis ❤
I love you guys! ❤
I always enjoyed her version of Summertime. The BEST
My little 11 year old self in 1969 listened to rock and blues. I was the only in the family who liked Janis.
Best rendition ever !
Janis feeds it to you raw and makes you love it.
The voice, amazing, Ball and Chain live at Monterey, with Cass Elliot from the Mamas and Papas watching from the crowd in awe is everything
With their mouths open!
ABSOLUTE beauty at its finest
Summertime was written in the mid 30's by George Gershwin for the opera "Porgy and Bess". Have heard many covers but Ella Fitzgerald in the 60's and Janis' versions are my favorites. Great work you guys!
Totally different styles, but both DEFINITELY awesome!!
BBHC the band that played this w Janis deserves a shout out
Gives me goosies!
Damn, so much emotion, started crying in the first 5 seconds
Love her version of this song. Thanks for the reaction.
She's so amazing. There is so much soul in her singing that makes up for the technical flaws. She didn't give a damn about technicalities though and, her singing was just her heart coming out. Love it ♥️
janis joplins voice could wake the dead her live performance in montreal of cry baby is a must see check it out and please react
"Summertime" is a classic from the early 20th century, sung by all the pop and blues singers for over 60 years
❤yes Janis does bring that reaction such as yours......
just a day or 2 ago i watched someone else do a reaction to janis joplin doing another song, and they said pretty much the same thing. they also mentioned that they love the imperfections in her voice and that they thought that's exactly what made her such a great singer. i guess i'd never thought about it, because i grew up with her and my thinking had always been kinda that she has a great voice, is such a great singer, and that'a just the way things are. i love seeing these songs through someone else's eyes so i can get a new perspective.

Summertime is one of her best songs! ♥
brilliant! Only one Janis
It is the opening number of "Porgy and Bess", set in Catfish Row, Charleston. It is a lullaby.
Great analysis as well!!!! The Lions and Lionesses roared back then and will again one day.....
This live version a great choice--Sounds/Looks Great!!!!!!
Tyvm - I have found my favourite rendition of this song at last. I like your videos since I found the first one by chance.
La amo tanto, mi janis 💜🖤💜🖤💜🖤 saludos
Have listened to Janis since release of Cheap Thrills. Its like pain transference
in what better time then now. after a year lost. great the summer vibe with jan.

You have to do her Monterrey Pop performance ✌😎
That was the night the world first got a good look at Janice
The Queen of Soul 🎙😇
Mama Cass' reaction in the audience ;).
Look at the people she's watching. Through her eyes they're bright eyed and have an innocens that she never knew.

AND "Ball and Chain" live from the Montery Pop Festival, in late 60s.
Amen Brotha and Sista !!
I don’t think that I ever heard this live version. I like it as much as the studio version, maybe more.
Montreal 1970 cry baby is 🔥🔥

The guitar master Tommy Emmanuel once said anyone can learn to play fast but just put your feelings into it and your audience will get it
all Janis had to do is stand on stage a let it escape. Jimi Hendrix was the same way, only with his guitar.
No one like Janis. A member of the infamous "27 club", along with Jimi Hendrix, and Jim Morrison of The Doors. That is so weird. All were superstars of Rock and Roll at the same time, and ended up

Great reaction. I know you guys love Liliac you should see there live cover of Piece of My Heart. They also have 3 new videos you should check out.
Janis mon amour❤❤❤ 😢
She’s from the same area of SouthEast Texas as the Winter brothers you just reacted to.
Yep. The Winter brothers are from Beaumont and Janis from Port Arthur. It's like a 15 minute drive from each city.
Janis was a troubled soul so I believe her singing was the real Janis. I was born in 1958 just missed her. The day I found her I never let go.
I think it was Ray Charles who said that Janet was the only singer he knew who could hit five different notes at the same time

Southern comfort
The album version ain't no slouch either !
yeah

At the FILMORE. SUMMER OF 1967. NOT MANY THERE. ABLE TO LAY ON THE FLOOR.
NEVER HEARD ANYTHING LIKE THAT BEFORE.
For another great story teller but of a little different shift in the musical style, you should do a reaction to, Bobby Gentry - "Ode To Billy Joe". If you do, be 'SURE' to react to the live BBC performance she did in 1968. It is simply mesmerizing!
You said WolfPuck!!!!
Listen to the live performance of Work Me Lord 1969 Stockholm, just as good as Summertime.
It would have been epic if Janis, Joe Cocker and BB King had played together.
She put port Arthur Texas on the map
Written by George Gershwin in 1934. Hard to believe.
1969 a long time ago in your world just yesterday in mine
5 foot 5, 88 pounds, heavy soul...
Is that Axle Rose at the end (Don't Cry)?
Influence.
