You know what you do the best out of all UA-cam car journalists? You make good length, high quality car reviews. And Mat Watson? You are the best. I love the channel and you produce so many videos! That is just brilliant. (my first comment on UA-cam in years.) Keep on doing this great work. (From Czech Republic.. :) )
The interior boring? That's like saying the interior of the NA MX-5 is boring... Honestly, what do you need besides comfy chairs and a good overview of basic functionality?
Jochem Renault interiors are pretty bland tbh especially compared to Peugeot's interiors. Citroens interior also may not be the best quality wise but looks far more interesting and quirky.
The glove compartment is huge because it is a LHD model. Will it be the same for RHD cars too? It is never understood why only French made cars still stubbornly refused to relocate the fuseboxes for RHD models to make the glove compartment the same size as LHD ones.
It isn't 5* on every new car because the last tests were double tests, one time with basic equipment and one time with full options. Only the new Scénic and the Subaru Levorg got 5* on both tests. So it's quite a thing for people who'd rather prefer to go for the basic version of a car.
The interior look is great to my eyes. It is annoying that the glove drawer isn't present in uk spec though. It also probably needs a more powerful petrol option than the 1.2 for the Grand version. I applaud Renault for caring about styling: these things matter every bit as much as prosaic functionality to people who can only afford one car. VW Touran gets praised by lazy journalists who'd never buy one for themselves in a million years, I suspect
leather steering wheel only on the signature option? cup holders small and can't be used when console fully forward. the glove 'drawer' box has a narrow opening and the 60/40 split means moving two seats to access the back row. No full curtain airbags and it's 5* NCAP. Expensive too
So there is a huge sliding glove box, just like the Captur... except that when Renault converted the car to right-hand drive, the glove box shrunk to the size of a medium jiffy bag. I suspect that the new Scenic will suffer the same problem. A tiny glove box in a family car is unacceptable. Also I had a first-gen Scenic and the seats folded individually and could be removed. The latest one shows that when the seats are folded down, you may have a flat load area but there's not much volume as the seats take up so much room. No car manufacturer seems to make a truly versatile MPV any more where the seats can be removed to create a small van
Grand C4 Picasso is massive with all seats flat, over 2000 litres. I agree with you re the Scenic Mk 1 - ahead of it's time and very innovative. I had one for a little while - super cheap and still really practical.
Does anyone know how much more expensive are 20" tyres than lets say 17"? And does it make any sense to put 20" on a family car that was supposed to be somewhat economical?
I kind of like it although compared to a Grand C4 it's a bit safe inside - better storage by the looks of it though. A 60:40 seat split in an MPV from the company that pretty much invented the idea of 3 separate 2 row seats? That's an odd design choice. Also annoying for people with 3 small kids and needing to fit car seats. I mean who else is this car for exactly?
A good 7 seat MPV should be ideally capable of taking 7 adults in reasonable comfort and still have room for their things behind the third row. This Grand Scenic isn't worthy of that requirement, as it can't comfortably accommodate adults third row. When Renault first introduced the Grand Espace in Mk2 and Mk3 guise, it was perfectly capable of taking adults in third row and it still had good room for carrying things. Since the new model in 2003 and upwards, things haven't kept that to that essential practicality need in the Renault Grand Espace and Renault Grand Scenic which improved the Mk 2 and Mk 3 Grand Espace.
It's pretty ridiculous that you get lcd dials and 20" wheels as standard on this car, but you'd have to pay around 8000 pounds extra for those things in an Audi A4 or A6.
Screen is painfully slow and they even programmed fancy unnessessary animations to make you wait longer and make it even unsafer to use. I would be annoyed every single day.
all cars have problems, but they are not the same for reliability, but this is human satisfaction, some like this and some like that, you don't need to say, I don't have reliability, they are all the same. only if you like them. .!!! at the end of the day, the car is known to be a car and nothing more.!
Great video as always, Mat. I must be a snob because I would never buy a French MPV for my kids. Touran/Sharan for the budget option (and really for a 5+ family they're all the car you'll ever need), or XC90/Model X in case I win the lotto. Or even the derpy yet lovable BMW X5 - actually, what do you think about it as a 7-seater?
The scenic is fantastic but i have 2 problems with it 1) too expensive and 2) that flat board in the middle where is the big 7 or 8 inch screen is kinda ugly I am a renault fan btw
I appreciate you have made a new jingle to punctuate your videos - and it's a nice jingle as far as jingles go - but 10 times? Really? Absolute jinglefest
Come on Matt, you're always going on about French car makers not being bothered to move the fuse box over for RHD cars so showing how great this glovebox is on a LHD car is pointless because it sure as hell isn't what RHD cars offer !
As you may expect my Renault has had ongoing *electrical issues* Took it to Renault dealer who said they would not look at electrical problems on cars over 10yrs old even though it is their own car. I will never buy a Renault again - ever!!
Yes, not bad looking, shame about the interior being so dull. That incidental music between sections comes across as cheesy and is annoyingly repetitive :o(
Thanks, this is the first really satisfying review of the new Grand Scénic. We will choose this one or the BMW 2 series Gran Tourer as our family car but the Grand Scénic really seems to offer a lot for the budget. BMW has a better looking interior but the exterior of the Renault is a lot more attractive. And the interior is far friom being bad, still better than most other MPVs.
If you are OK with the BMW prices, you do get an interior that is significantly better than the Scenic, and BMW's infotainment tech that is the best on the market. I agree with the exterior, the BMW is quite bland, but since you will be spending a lot more time inside the car than looking at it from the outside...
That's the point … we could afford the BMW but the Renault would mean we'd have to make less concessions on other things. But on the other hand, my GF and her kids will drive around 60 km per day in the car (home to workplace/school and back) so it should be really a car where they feel absolutely comfortable inside which is absolutely the case with the BMW. But we will be able to see the Grand Scénic in Spa on 24th September then we can tell if it's comfortable enough.

Hi mat we want head2head Duster vs kuga vs qashqai
carwow yes they can the Audi q7
Hmm the interior isn't boring at all to me. Maybe the colour scheme is just a bit drab.
I have had a Renault Scenic and believe me those 4:53 are so good for smuggling drugs across the border
well not anymore they're not :(
or if u are in a journey during the hot summer and leave your car parked - those boxes are the only place where food can survive.
misterOsc the little cabinets under the rear passenger feet?
misterOsc i didnt reach that part yet is it?
🤣
Don't know what he is talking about! Interior looks great
This is not the real scenic
One thing you can say for sure, french can design their cars. There are some crazy good looking Renault and Citroen cars.
You Sir, mean that a car should look like a Tefal Glide Iron?
Really good looking cars that seem to be extremely practical. Well done Renault.

Bugatti is french
I don't think the interior is boring
wow, the new Scenic looks really cool, deserve its place amongst some of the most handsome mpv in the world like honda Odyssey and KIA Sedona
why get rid of the individual seats. that was one of the best parts. they come out as well to give a great amount of space. bad idea taking them away.
Love the looks of this car , I don't even need an mpv but might get one now !
The music in this video was coming back again and again, which made it somewhat disturbing. But it was a great review! :)
The glove compartment is huge because it is a LHD model. Will it be the same for RHD cars too? It is never understood why only French made cars still stubbornly refused to relocate the fuseboxes for RHD models to make the glove compartment the same size as LHD ones.

Great review as always, Mat. One bit of feedback for you tho: the music was awful. Prefer the music in your usual reviews.
You're absolutely right
looks great, the scenic ain't bad either.
Throwback to Rebecca jokes? :)
+Andrei Simionescu :)
we need skoda to do something for this segment
Excellent motor im sure! Shame Matt hates French cars, his reviews are always downbeat when it comes to those 😕
livc44411 check his review in the Peugeot 3008. High praises for it
indeed, why should there be always something wrong with french cars??
This car is beautiful and the interior is perfect
Great review, on of the more exciting MPVs on the market. Also, I think that Euro NCAP rating would be a good thing to mention in all reviews
Isn't it 5* on all new cars, except some very cheap rubbish ones that don't bother optimising their vehicles to pass the test (and only the test).
fair enough
It isn't 5* on every new car because the last tests were double tests, one time with basic equipment and one time with full options. Only the new Scénic and the Subaru Levorg got 5* on both tests. So it's quite a thing for people who'd rather prefer to go for the basic version of a car.
I think the interior looks very cool
That gear shifter is unnecessarily large, just put a dial instead Renault
Renault cars have come a long way in terms of reliability and looks. Excellent review Mat.
You guys should have millions of subs, one of the greatest car channels of youtube

Nice car but the 60/40 middle row seating is a bit of a step backwards, three independent seats are a much more flexible option for families.
The Renault Scenic exterior looks weird but I love the way the interior look if it returns in the United States I would buy one the 5 seater
leather steering wheel only on the signature option? cup holders small and can't be used when console fully forward. the glove 'drawer' box has a narrow opening and the 60/40 split means moving two seats to access the back row. No full curtain airbags and it's 5* NCAP. Expensive too

i have scenic generation 2 and all seats can be removed completly in one minute

How much boot space do you lose in the grand version by configuring the car with Renault's Bose sound system?
20 Inch rims as standard!?!?
Scenic (Grand) or S-max? What do You think?
Where is "thanks for watchin'" at the end?
@ around 4:30 you made a mistake about the glove box size because that is not gonna be in the UK version, am I right Matt?
Is a 1.5 dci engine with 86 kw too weak for a grand scenic 7 seater and luggage on top ?
Does anyone know how much more expensive are 20" tyres than lets say 17"? And does it make any sense to put 20" on a family car that was supposed to be somewhat economical?
My grandpa has a JM Scenic, and it is a great car
very good videos again.
living in India, probably won't see this car here ever but watching Matt's reviews only cuz he's an awesome presenter! :)
India is horrible country due to corruption and that's why you pay arm and leg for cars etc
dafaq??

You don't mention about the size of trunk space - I find it's small for a 7 seater monovolume (the old scenic had great trunk space.
Has more comforts in the back seat than a Lexus! Lexus take note
Just made a big mistake for buying ford grand cmax, the new grand scenic is killing me it's so fxxking great.
Where is the old F4R 2.0 136 HP? A great NA, especially with a 5-speed manual
why do the British hate the French?

Wayne Tan cos jealousy. frogs are better by pretty much every measure.

Will you be doing a ford edge review at all?
They don't sell that in Europe,-(googles) wait, they're selling that in Europe?
They do it's been out for a bout a month or so👍🏻
+Quinn Hue They do, test drove the edge this weekend ( in Sweden). 😀
Can you in 2. Row make seats to fiferents angles?
The Grand looks better at the rear.
And of course we can't have it in the U.S 😐
can you do a review on the renault talisman? thanks.
You should review the Renault espace
This is a UK channel and Renault don't sell the Espace here any more.... so no review
Why get the grand scenic when you can get an espace
The interior style is minimalistic.
A good 7 seat MPV should be ideally capable of taking 7 adults in reasonable comfort and still have room for their things behind the third row. This Grand Scenic isn't worthy of that requirement, as it can't comfortably accommodate adults third row. Soooo tyres are gonna be expensive then.🤔
Where is point number 4?
It's pretty ridiculous that you get lcd dials and 20" wheels as standard on this car, but you'd have to pay around 8000 pounds extra for those things in an Audi A4 or A6.
Must say, it's really good looking

I would be annoyed every single day.
please always show the indicators in the front early in the rev. if they are at the wrong side of the headlight the car are of no interest
absolutely love the practicality of it , not sure about the reliability though
Driving this Grand Scenic for 4 years now… haven’t had the slightest problem
all cars have problems, but they are not the same for reliability, but this is human satisfaction, some like this and some like that, you don't need to say, I don't have reliability, they are all the same. only if you like them. .!!! at the end of the day, the car is known to be a car and nothing more.!

+Sirion definitely agreed, that's why I mentioned me being a snob. I own a Passat becausd the Sharan is so damn expensive.
At least you’re self-aware I guess. No money sense, awful taste in boxy cars, but self-aware.
diesel is spelt wrongly in the description
great great great i love this car :-) the gr. scenic is just nice and scenic is also :-) bravo Mat

My choice would be a 7 seater purely for space. With the middle chairs removed can put ya feet up a cuppa after a long day walking
The easter egg is a guide to France?? Looks ok, but too many electrics in a French car spells trouble!
Oh you. Still partying like it's 2005, huh?

I heard renault cars are not reliable and parts are not always in stock by agent, may need to wait long period for parts ordering too.

review the new A class
Espace, Scenic, Koleos, Kadjar and also Captur, WTF Renault? Why so many options?
The Espace isn't available in the right hand drive markets anymore so thats one of the table
ama neden Koleos, Kadjar and Captur aren't MPVs
do you have problem french car 😠
Paul Kelly ofcourse you can get the espace, at least where i live.
20 inch rims.. 500 euro per tire i think? Pointless!
no Michelin makes special tyres 20 inch for scenic cheaper. renault has a deal with michelin .
+stephen10 Also Conti which I think these cars have when you buy them, not Michelin.
now each tyres brands will make a special tyre "20 inch" cheap for this scenic...
No, 130 € per tire.
tyres are 195/55/20 and yes they are around 130 €, not that bad, but still the choice of tyres are very limited.
why is there still a transmission poke instead of buttons like a ferrari or mclaren...
because its a renault hahaha
buttons just aren't nice to use.
yess they are but is more expensive + you save more room in the cabin
i love it when i select my gear with a kind stick lol its a sensational feeling
As if there weren’t enough electrical problems with Renault the folding rear seats join the list. And they will join the list.
Come on Matt, you're always going on about French car makers not being bothered to move the fuse box over for RHD cars so showing how great this glovebox is on a LHD car is pointless because it sure as hell isn't what RHD cars offer !
