My second grade teacher saw that I was miserable in school and bullied frequently. That bullying, specifically about the color of my skin, made it very difficult to focus and get things done. She spent a lot of time with me and encouraged me to read a lot. In that year I started cruising through books and read at a college level the following year. She loved me. I loved her and cried when I couldn't attend her class the next year. Great teacher.
"Lying for the Lord" is DEFINITELY a thing. It's sometimes referred to as "pious fraud." Some of the most dishonest people I know are all about God (to hear them say it).
I'm 61. 50 years ago when I started senior school nobody would have admitted to being LGBTQ. Even the term didn't exist. As a young person confused about my gender identity it was difficult. It's supposed to be more acceptable to be open about your sexuality and sense of self now. Why are these parents so afraid of this? I suppose they'd like to have segregation and burning crosses as well. Maybe some of these mothers would like to go back to being chattel. And they think being progressive is radical. If you don't understand that moving forward is better than going backwards, I give up.
Parents who think any child in middle school would be "corrupted" or learn about homosexuality for the first time by reading this book are laughable. Teachers are blamed for everything wrong in this country. They've always been an easy target because parents need someone to blame when their children mess up.
Unfortunately sex education was handed to schools because so many homes failed to provide it. Children at young ages are exposed to sooooo much misinformation. As a retired teacher I am sick of those who blame teachers for the failures of families and churches.
We are blaming teachers for the failure of teachers. We are blaming teachers for indoctrinating and sexualizing children starting in the 1st grade. We are blaming teacher for not standing up to the sick evil corrupt teachers union that promote this sick LBGT agenda onto our kids. ALL sex education in schools should be banned. It has no place in education. It is the job of the parents and their right to raise their kids as they see fit. This is the radical Marxist left agenda of the state controlling our children and destroying the family structure. As a retired teacher you sound as ignorant as these fools on MR.
It's necessary information for growth, so teaching it in school is necessary to ensure they do receive it, because you can't rely on parents to teach them about it.
“There are no straight people calling for the opposite.” My guy, you literally wrote a children’s book about the dangers of identifying as something other than your assigned sex.
My man his book wasn’t about the dangers of identifying as something other than your assigned sex. It was about the dangers of letting kids think they can choose their sex and then mutilating their bodies to try and achieve the impossible. And by the way, sex is not assigned. There are only two and everyone is born one of them. You don’t get to choose.
I'm going to be honest, I don't think Walsh actually loves his children. The man is a pathological sociopath, he sees his own children as props for his rhetoric, nothing more.
The homophobia at my boarding school was wildly out of control. Being perceived as gay was like being worse than Hitler. It wasn't till I got to university when I released that gay people were a normal bunch of people.
Whenever I hear stories like this, I think back to college. Yeah, it was an art school, but the first day, we had a meet-up at a common room. Everyone's talking and seeing who they wanna room with, and a guy I was talking to an I hit it off. Then when I ask if he wants to be my roommate, he kinda whispers "um, I'm gay..." and I was like "yeah, I know." He spoke with a lisp and it was pretty easy for anyone else to tell. But what the fuck did I care? If I was taught by a shitty little dirt town in the middle of nowhere with a xenophobic population of 600 that he was a demonic psycho, it probably would have gone differently, but I _wasn't._ We wound up in different rooms, but still hung out and smoked weed together though. Being gay is not wrong, it's not weird, it's not a "sin..." it's just _not hetero._ The fact that these fucking lunatics act like it is is literally dangerous and totally *evil.*
This lady is absolutely a hero. If we had more people like her, willing to do what's right, even with the threat of retaliation and bigoted hate, we would have a much better world. I feel bad for all the students she's being forced to leave, everyone needs someone like this in their life. I hope she can find a place that isn't so ignorant and hostile towards understanding and empathy ❤
I keep asking...what are these parents and right wing theocrats so afraid of ??? Are their children so weak minded and lacking healthy family relationships and parental guidance to such an extent that they cannot be exposed to anything different than so called normal without being contaminated and indoctrinated????

A truly heartbreaking aspect of this story is the child who was helped because of this book will now have to deal with the tremendous guilt of knowing that they were responsible for this teacher quitting and the hopelessness of also feeling that their only ally is now gone out of their life.
My daughter is finishing her first year of teaching public school 6th graders, in a state thankfully not Florida. They gave her the students having to go to school. Brutal. The attacks on teachers is beyond my comprehension. Without decent education, our society is cooked.
Emma Vigeland said the other day that she doesn't care about science or facts because she's 'right' regardless. She went to an extremely expensive private school.
It's really a shame that the school / school district didn't have her back. I could understand placing someone on leave while a physical allegation is being investigated, but not this. Shame on them.
I've noticed this about Ben Shapiro too. I think they're starting to switch their target audience from 13 year olds to boomers with the more "manly" look

I’m a trans woman who works as a school bus driver in MA. I brought the HS band to a Memorial Day parade today and one of the girls is trans and both her parents were chaperones for the trip. It’s so crazy how here the kid is happy her parents are overwhelmingly supportive and it feels like her trans status isn’t even remotely relevant to anyone. Yet in other areas of this country she’d be persecuted and harassed by anyone and everyone about it. And even as I was growing I up here it wasn’t even close to being acceptable which is a big reason I didn’t come out until I was in my 20s.
If the parents are 'overwhelmingly supportive' how can it feel like 'her trans status isn't even remotely relevant to anyone?' You yourself seem to find an awful lot of relevance in her 'trans status'-- it's almost as if the trans status is more important than the trans human being...
@@iamjurell Because people don't bring it up constantly. The answer to your question was so simple. Maybe if you stopped being a trans-obsessed freak for five minutes you could see that.
Ty for sharing. It makes a difference. I feel a tiny bit less terrible knowing that at least one person is not suffering because of the Matt Walsh hate mongering parade of bigotry.
I am a teacher and my kids come to me for hugs, for reassurance, for love, for encouragement etc. I love my students, it’s crazy how much love I have given to the 200+ students I’ve had the past 15 years. They’re my little loves.
And presumably you are fully, totally aware that they are not actually *your* children, right? Also, presumably, if you thought someone was taking actions that would harm those children, you would do anything in your power to protect them, regardless of how it 'looked' or what people might think about you, correct?
A Catholic, hetero, cis, male teacher from Germany watching this. It's appalling, that this wonderful, loving teacher left her profession because of right wing bigots. And I stand in solidarity with the teacher. We teach sexual education in grades 5 to 7, and there was nothing new to my children at that age. We love and treasure our friends from the LGBTQ community. And I welcome all my students in my classes at a vocational school. Please, please make clear to the audience, that it's not normal what bigoted fundamentaluat "Christians" and the GOP are trying to do in the United States.
I was in the the first ever openly gay couple in my school district and it would have been so unbelievably helpful to have even one teacher that was an ally. It felt like everyone was against me. I ended up leaving school because of it. We need good teachers like this.
I knew as early as I was 12, that I was not straight. I didn't come out until I was 22; and it was forced. I wish I had had a teacher like her; I grew up only hearing nasty things about LGBTQ folks. Feeling so hopeless, it's honestly a miracle that I'm still alive today. The LGBTQ has a huge amount of suicides, versus non-LGBTQ folks. It's not because we are sick, it's because everything we see around us is attacks; it's prejudice, hate, violence. Of course kids commit suicide: it is because when one lives in such isolated communities, seeing that literally everyone hates what you are, it just feels like life is not worth living. Thank you so much for being so angry, so emotional; for our sake. Thank you so much for the work you do.

Is Matt Walsh a very clumsy and hamfisted manipulator of very modest intelligence who preys on the extremely stupid, or is he just extremely stupid? I've wondered this for a long time, but this case brings it to the front of my mind. He clumsily confuses Sarah Bonner's declaration that while every parent loves their own children, she loves every child in her class, with her saying she loves any given child in the class more than his or her parents do. She is the best part of most of her students day, she ensures they’re fed, if she notices something wrong she communicates with their parents to ensure they’re getting taken care of at home, she even took in a couple of her students when their family was having a rough time. I genuinely feel like something is going to come out about Matt Walsh being a groomer. His takes on girls, age of consent, trans women/girls, sex education etc. is both grotesque and disturbing.
This isn’t elementary school or middle school; this is HIGH SCHOOL. If a parent called the POLICE over a book about an alternative lifestyle and they think their kid is somehow completely ignorant to the fact that there are gay people in the world, they don’t know their kids at all. Sam is right; these parents might as well start constructing bubbles for their precious children to live in, because if they can’t even READ the word ‘gay’ without feeling sexually indoctrinated, their kid doesn’t need to exist in today’s society.
The word "groomer" used to have different meaning, it used to refer to a person who rapes a child and than uses intimidation tactics to keep the child from talking; loons now just use it loosely to personally attack anyone doing anything they don't like....Why is it they never get this upset at actual grooming, like when it happens with priests in their churches ?
If they want to find groomers, they should look into their youth pastors. I would never leave a kid alone with one of them. Google "youth pastors" and "grooming" and see how many stories come up. It's horrifying.
A groomer has always been someone who basically interacts with a kid, slowly convincing them that an adult relationship with the groomer is a totally normal and acceptable thing. The end goal obviously being some form of inappropriate relationship. They believe that being LGBTQ+ is a choice and they think that by being open and broadening horizons, people are pushing kids towards this "wrong choice". For many of them, they don't see it as much different than being open and offering material promoting something like bestiality (even though that's an insane comparison and not at all related to being LGBTQ+ in the slightest.) When you realize that's the perspective they're coming from, you realize that there is no negotiating with them. Just like I can't imagine anybody on the left ever compromising about books about beastiality, these people will not compromise on this issue. The solution is basically to take away the ability of these freaks to be able to do stuff like filing false police reports, etc. without consequences. The person who filed the police report should be charged with filing a false police report, convicted, and jailed. They only act this way because there are no consequences to themselves. They will not stop without consequences because they truly believe that they are in the right.
As someone pointed out rightly in the comments, some of your colleagues have literally died when protecting their students from gun fire, for example. On the other hand, it is easy talk for Walsh...
We need to build a website that catalogs all of the banned books. Put up a giant billboard outside EVERY school with “These are the books THEY don’t want you to read” with a QR code that takes you to that site. You select your school and you have the list of every banned book at your school.
When Walsh says "love" what he means is that they're possessions that belong to him personally as a parent, and if people love your kids then that's a crime because they're not your property, they're mine. Diseased, evil man.
I went to highschool in a town of 4000 people. We had a gay straight alliance club and had plenty of books like that available to the kids. Its insane how fast thia atuff has changed for the worse.
I was an RA/SR at a major midwestern university in the mid nineties. The largest percentage of our residents were straight white midwestern kids from small towns whose parents thought would be best served by living in the dorms while starting their college lives. One year on my floor it came to my attention that a resident was being targeted with slurs and inappropriate (snickering/excluding/etx)c) behavior by an indeterminate number of dorm mates when they figured out that he was gay. He was bold enough to come to me for help. I told him my plan and then asked all of the possible offenders (the whole floor) into my room where I basically called them all out for being idiotic children in a place where they were expected to be learning how to adult and even become professionals. He unknowingly knocked on my door while this meeting was happening and realized immediately what was going on and so promptly left. That's when the magic happened; they all wanted to take the opportunity to apologize and start over with him. So I ran to the door and talked to him out in the hallway about their intention and attitude. Once again, this gracious and amazing young man agreed to be the better than he should ever have to be and met with them in my room. The rest of that year was a far better experience and I always think back to that when these incidents pop up in the news. People need to be called out for shitty behavior, no matter what the excuse they try to hide behind might be.
One of my gifts is to live as myself in the real world and enjoy books as books and not confuse the two. FYI to burn books is the *opening preamble* of tyranny, figure it out.
Emma! Is! LIVID! she is so pissed to a point I wish I could reach. When I was going through school all I heard about teachers was they were abused, under paid, and worked out of sheer passion for their students literally paying for the necessary supplies so their children could succeeded. This is disgusting. They don't want certain people to exist. The constant reminder of people who aren't what they think they should be. People like Walsh need to feel the same pain they wish to impose on others. Constantly.
I bet there are parents that know their child is gay but, would prefer they never come out. Better that the kid hides his true self than the parent has to deal with others knowing their child is gay.
Why can’t this teacher sue Matt Walsh for calling her a groomer and saying she showed her students pornographic material??? This isn’t true and she should be able to sue him for defamation
I didn't have any sex education whatsoever (that includes abstinence only) and the lack of it led to a lot of the issues I have as an adult. I truly hate guys like Matt Walsh because they're total grifters who knows exactly what lacking sex education does and want those negative consequences to happen because they profit off of them. He is beneath the bottom of the barrel!
Clearly the solution is to get a bunch of 20~ year olds who *also* didn't get sex education to teach the subject...to kids. And make sure to do it without any anatomy or biology cos that might offend certain sensibilities, left and right. Oh and make sure to tell the girls that they're in constant danger from sexual predators and that the boys are in constant danger of *being* sexual predators, that'll be great. Make sure to explain affirmative consent to children, they'll totally get it. The point I'm making is that a lack of decent, sober sex education poses a problem in both the short and the long term, but that there are proposed solutions which provide, in fact, negative utility. American students can barely spell or do maths compared to the rest of the world, what makes anyone think that teachers will be more successful at explaining something as complicated as sex or relationships? Or something as little-understood/entirely fictional like arbitrary 'genders' and infinitely variable personal identity?
If Matt's kids turned out to be gay or trans, then he would make their life a living hell and would definitely not love them. Then their teacher would probably, hopefully be someone who loves them more than Matt.

The danger of misinformation outweighs whatever is causing the moral panic.
I am sick of teachers forcing students to endure sexual and verbal harassment daily at school.

Then when I ask if he wants to be my roommate, he kinda whispers "um, I'm gay..." and I was like "yeah, I know."
He spoke with a lisp and it was pretty easy for anyone else to tell. But what the fuck did I care? If I was taught by a shitty little dirt town in the middle of nowhere with a xenophobic population of 600 that he was a demonic psycho, it probably would have gone differently, but I _wasn't._
We wound up in different rooms, but still hung out and smoked weed together though.
Being gay is not wrong, it's not weird, it's not a "sin..." it's just _not hetero._ The fact that these fucking lunatics act like it is is literally dangerous and totally *evil.*

But would she try to talk to all her students about them being gay or what they thought about watersports?
Look up the book she got in trouble for showing the students and tell me that was anything other than f*cking weird and probably criminal…
@@imnotracistbut-9559 What book?
I genuinely feel like something is going to come out about Matt Walsh being a groomer.
His takes on girls, age of consent, trans women/girls, sex education etc. is both grotesque and disturbing.
Make LGBTQ normal not fringe. Let people be celebrated not persecuted.
She’s a middle school teacher like me.
Western, Central & southern Illinois needs more teachers like her. 💯💯
Yes, and the rest of the United States as well!
For many of them, they don't see it as much different than being open and offering material promoting something like bestiality (even though that's an insane comparison and not at all related to being LGBTQ+ in the slightest.)
When you realize that's the perspective they're coming from, you realize that there is no negotiating with them.
Teacher here. I love my students as much as my own children. Why wouldn't I? It doesn't cost me anything.
Matt Walsh's latest date is locked in the trunk of his car.
They're easy to fit in there, because they're so young.
When Walsh says "love" what he means is that they're possessions that belong to him personally as a parent, and if people love your kids then that's a crime because they're not your property, they're mine. Diseased, evil man.
I’m guessing you don’t have kids
@@SquidgyPickle ????
Isn’t Matt Walsh the guy who said that the sexual assault of minors is ok because puberty is when girls are “most fertile“?
spoiler: a conservative accusation is a confession
One of my gifts is my ability to vicariously live through the characters in my precious books. To burn books is the endgame of tyranny.
I suggest you read Johnny the Walrus. Also the Bible, since you like books.
@@williesamdavis503 The Bible? You mean the book that begins with two sisters raping their father? Great role model for children.
How many fallacies can you count? Strawman, false equivalency, red herring, etc. etc.
I hope the teacher sues Matt Walsh for defamation since she's clearly dealing with lost income.
Is it really a good idea to have kids reading though? Doesn't that cut into their time training for active shooter drills?
🤦🏾♀️These are the same parents who will let their children watch GOT with no problem!🙄
These are the same parents who will take their pre-pubescent children to hooters,
As a Florida, I can really feel the love from you guys. Thank you for your support and your outrage.
Florida TEACHER. Jeez, please ignore my typo.
Why can’t this teacher sue Matt Walsh for calling her a groomer and saying she showed her students pornographic material??? This isn’t true and she should be able to sue him for defamation
Because it is 100% true

He's going to pretend that she wasn't trying to communicate her responsibility to all kids unlike a parents responsibility to their own kids
It's laughable to hear Matt Walsh talk about the love from a parent for their children when we all know that he just wants his kids to be a carbon copy of himself and if they aren't, he won't love them anymore.
“Government schools” is a dog whistle. Numerous teachers are being targeted as “groomers” & we need help. Please if you hear this bigotry against our profession speak up.
lol bigotry against our profession, get a grip.
Matt Walsh: "What is love? Baby don't hurt me, don't hurt me, no more..."
Haddaway reference to ease tension.
Thank you for mentioning the teachers that jumped between a shooter and students. I was thinking the exact thing when I heard him spew that garbage.
"We’re all very clear This Book is Gay is not for children" - The author of that book.
Teachers have jumped in front of bullets for their students
Edit: thank you North Dakota Matt
Don't forget Emma, they don't want kids to read. In our house it was almost compulsory . The suggestion that some books could be banned would have been horrifying.
You're going to have an entire generation of people whose view of the world is either limited, or at best self taught.
I hope they have the capacity to be self aware.
Just think about where you find the next generation of teachers and more scary politicians.
Republicans are people who've never read a book in their whole life.
Literally half of US adults are functionally illiterate lol
People tend too project and usually conditioned too act a way their whole life just parroting what they think applies in their own little worlds ...it's getting crowded and nuttier though followed by fascist ideology after ...hopefully not but I got an inkling we all are being played like wasp getting shook in a jar ...fun xs .
@@areuarealman7269 sorry to point this out, but too=as well. You mean to.
Out of the old reading, writing, and arithmetic, conservatives are currently outlawing reading. Writing is probably next when kids try to express their experiences, and I think statistics is making it dangerous for arithmetic, too.
