so good you putting this out there my cats were always indoors..there so many dangers out there .cars dogs mean people ....steph you doing the right thing !!!
I just stumbled across your video (and channel) because I’m currently attempting to convert my outdoor/indoor cat to indoor only. It really struck me how sincere you are! I can totally understand why you feel people may judge you for having cats be outdoors at all but it really pulled on my heart strings to hear you speak about it. If you were my friend I would never expect you to apologize for the way you were raised and your worldview! In the UK not letting your cat outside is considered cruel (a reasoning I’ve grappled with in my current decision). My family has always had outdoor/indoor cats, I also never knew different. Really enjoyed your video :)
I am a farmer and live in the country on a farm. Cats are working animals here and are "pest control"...People actually drive out here and drop cats off which is rude and then we have to deal with it...But my own cats were feral, mama and babies showed up- i got them all fixed and found other barn homes for some of them and kept Mama and two boys. Now they are not feral and are my pets. Without cats I would personally have to (and did) trap gophers/moles/voles because they destroy my crops, which was really hard to do. I hate when they catch birds or snakes but its much more rare. I am an animal lover and hate killing any animal or even insect but as a farmer the cats take care of the "pests" naturally. Its them or me or quit farming. Most conventional farmers put poison out for gophers/moles/voles...Its so different living in a city or suburb with outdoor cats. I am now having to move and am building a catio. Because we have to live near a busy road and cant let them out...im so sad to take away their freedom and wondering if they will just go after each other out of boredom...😢
I completely respect that!! I think in a situation like that, it absolutely makes sense to have working cats and I’m sure the kitties on your farm are living an AMAZING life! Much different from me where I live in a city 😊
