  • On nie powróci już (He Will Not Be Back Anymore) Tango z rewii "Warszawa w kwiatach" (H.Wars /A.Włast) (Tango from Morskie Oko show Warsaw In Flowers) -- Chór Dana & Ork. Henryka Golda, Syrena-Electro 1929
NOTE 1: This last night at 0.00 am the carnival was ended and the Lent started. Today, the Ash Wednesday has started for the Christians the time of contemplating one's transgressions. The Catholics, Lutherans, Protestans should assembly today in churches to receive from their miniters the imposition of a palm-leaf ashes mixed with water (to make the blend more adhesive) on their foreheads -- sign of one's readiness to renew the life and have sorrow over sins committed.
Before it let's have, hovever, last glimpse into Adria - the best night club in prewar Warsaw -- to see the last hours of the carnival, just before first silver rays of the morning light remind the tired guests of the Ash Wednesday - who walks in slowly, putting the end to the "pagan rituals" of dance, booze and vanity... So long, carnival. See you next year!
NOTE2: A very a propos is the story connected to this excellent, emotional tango. The revue "Warszawa w kwiatach" was supposed to end the 1929 spring season in the theatre Morskie Oko in Warsaw. After the last show before holidays, Eugeniusz Bodo and Juliusz Roland two young talented actors, who usually performed tango "On nie powróci już" on stage -- got straight on the Bodo's newly bought limousine to drive down to Poznań, where the first International Fair was supposed to be open the next morning. (For the snobish society of Warsaw it was absolutely necessary to show oneself up in there). When they were starting, the whole crew of Morskie Oko gathered in front of theatre waving them goodbye and singing the hit "On nie powróci już" (He Will Not Be Back Anymore). And so it went: after an hour, in a crash of their car -- which was driven by unexperienced driver, Eugeniusz Bodo- Juliusz Roland was killed.
    On nie powróci już...
    (He Won't Be Back Anymore)...
    So stop shedding your tears,
    so give up your hopes...
Yet, time will soothe your suffering,
it will calm down the pain of your longing.

Przeogromna wiedza o czasach, które minęły, bogactwo materiału, które zadziwia... Oglądam, słucham i chłonę obraz zatrzymany w kadrze...wyobraźnia ożywia każdą postać z tych pięknych fotografii...brak mi słów, aby wyrazić TO, co czuję...Dziękuję ! :)

Hello Grzegorz - this video is super fantabulous! Warsaw boasted most glamorous celebrities - but her Tango talents - in the 1930's - were truly awesome! Wlast/Wars partnership produced awesome Tangos but other talents in those Golden Tango days - were no less brilliant! Thanks and have a super day and the coming weekend!

@tango3721 Lana Thank you... I'm so glad that you liked this film... But, recent news have turned my attention towards Japan. I am also worried about my family in the Vancouver region, first of all because of the earthquake alert in that area. My sister has recently moved farther away from the coastline into the mountains, thank God. She now lives in a Banff area, where without any doubt, tsunami will not reach her. But these quakes, oh these quakes... What's going on with our world?

@genia106 We were still so carefree and happy last night when this film was just uploaded and when your lovely answer arrived to my site - and suddenly, everything has changed today. The tragedy of Japan overshadowed every other news putting my soul in sorrow and deep compassion

Thank you for his wonderful clip. Certainly inter-war Poland had a lot going for it. Too bad the Polish authorities did not manage to find a generosity of spirit for an accomodation with their laegest national minority - the Ukrainians, and to share the benefits of independence with them. I'm researching Ukrainian jazz and and tango in the 1930s and see the lost opportunities... Now it is history, but we should learn from it.
