He settled and naturalized in Indonesia, He built a four stars hotel with villa nuance in in mountains area, Ciloto region, West Java, and possessed Indonesian Restaurant in Perth, Australia.

Artur Gold's tragic but gallant story reminds us that certain principles and loyalties matter much more than wealth and fame. Both he and Andrzej Włast showed a heroism of which their tormentors could not conceive. I am reminded in watching this presentation that I much prefer the formal look of the artists' publicity shots of that time to the more casual look favored today.

Re: Andrzej Wlast's untimely death version - Vera Bobrowska risked working with Nazis to hide him in German occupied Warsaw - for which the Soviets shot her dead when she was only 45 - for "collaborating". Yes, the compositions of Artur Gold very often have that minor note. Also other Polisih composers of the Jewish descent were able to put into their tunes that fascinating blend of the Jewish/Slavonic melancholy. That's why, their tangoes from 1920-30s are so wonderful and how sad is the idea, this phenomenon will never happen again... (most of them died in the Holocaust).
That story about Bobrowska is absolutely fascinating and it adds extreme dramatism to the whole episode. It would be interesting to find some records in the available archives about it. In what I read, the version was different: Sempolinski mentions about her disappointment about her career and her inability to continue some significant artistic progress. As he writes, she left for Paris to marry some wealthy man and after that Vera Bobrowska forever vanishes behind screen of some foreign name.
