- Chór Dana z tow. Ork. Syrena Rekord pod dyr. W. Dana (Orchestra Syrena Rekord dir. by Władysław Dan) - Nasza jest noc (Our Is The Night) Tango z rewii „Maj za pasem” teatru Qui pro Quo [from theatre Qui pro Quo revue: May Is Round the Corner] (muz. S.Górska - sł. Oldlen), Syrena-Electro 1930 (Polish)
NOTE: This tango was an immense hit during the whole 1930s in Poland, and is still performed today by various artists. Composed and presented on stage of Qui pro Quo in Warsaw, March 1930 by Stefania Górska, it was recorded thereafter by immensely popular Polish revelers Chór Dan to become a top selling record released three times in 1930 in various combinations: with a singer Zofia Terné on side B or with some other songs by Chór Dana.
Composer Stefania (“Stefcia”) Górska was not a professional composer, she was merely a Qui pro Quo chorus girl discovered in 1928 by Fryderyk Jarossy- the influential actor and Qui pro Quo MC who noticed her outstanding comical genre and singing talent. During the 1930s she became one of the most popular names among cabaret actors in Warsaw and she continued her acting career after the 2nd WW on stage and in comedy movies. However, her ambitions had always been higher than just telling jokes on stage and she also became a serious pop-music composer. Two of her hits: “Nasza jest noc” and “Głos z daleka” (A Voice From Afar) • Polish tango: Chór Dan... became evergreens in history of Polish song.
Fantastic, splendour great city like no other, love Warsaw
🥰Perełka 🌹Pozdrawiam 🤗
Wonderfully delicate tango, exquisitely performed... thank you for sharing this song, as well as for the precious period photos!
Hello, dear Patrick! Yes, its one of the nicest performances of Chór Dana for me, I like when the Choir sings with a delicate orchestral accompaniment. Usually, they sung merely with piano, guitar or harmonium, while the discreet orchestral assistance adds so much to their singing!
I thought that too, Grzegorz; the blending together of the choir and orchestra is marvellous :-)
Piękne tango!!! ;) Pozdrawiam!
Hello Grzegorz and all the clickers to this fabulous channel - Ms. Gorska composed a great Tango - on par with other Warsaw 1930 -1939 - Tango greats. Julian Tuwim's lyrics simply sizzle - he could - certainly come up with some hot lyrics - I also remember his charming verses for children which I heard hundreds of times as a child and never got tired of them. At any rate - my other "turf" the hilly vicinity of New York will have some snow on the near-by - mountains - tomorrow - but before than happens - tonight is a cold, rainy night. Have a great weekend - Grzegorz - all the clickers and all of us here!
Dear Lana, the text of this song contains a line by Julian Tuwim which writes: "..and God has created this world only to give us this night". In prewar Poland, it was a source of a small scandal, when the religious press protested against that - as it was called '- "blasphemy". My father told me that when in early 1930s he attended the military course for students on a camp near Poznań, they made their marching route during exercises as close as possible to the people leaving the Sunday mass, and started singing loudly, a capella in a marching tempo exactly this line. Bad boys, they had a lot of fun to see anger of the Sunday ladies and parish priest hearing it! .
Beautiful music and great video to accompany it. Thanks for sharing.
Great video, dear friend! Thank you very much! Have a wonderful Sunday!
Hello Sergio, thank you!
Super! :)
Thank you for this gentle and romntic tune. I presume that the words are as beautiful as the melody.
Thank you, Natalia. I'm glad that you enjoyed this song. The words are a written by the fine Polish poet Julian Tuwim, who begins his lines with a statement: The others were given by Fortune all the wealth and prosperity in life, a sack of money, a pile of precious stones, yet we have nothing, literally nothing but just this one and most precious night given to us.

Tango z rewii; Maj za pasem...Tak przeczytałam w powyzszej informacji..adwent za pasem i do maja jeszcze troszkę...troszke...
No trudno, z takiej rewii pochodzi to ładne tango. Tata wspominał, jak chórem śpiewali je maszerując w podchorążówce w Jarocinie.
