As a retired litigation paralegal and twice divorced myself, the best plan/advice/action I can say is, Listen to your lawyer! After you agree on which approach w/your attorney is Let him/her/they do the worrying for You as that is what You're are paying them for!! Concentrate on Yourself and it's more than Okay to pamper yourself and be a lil selfish with Self Care! I Wish You All the Best - Trust in God and Yourself ❤️🙏🏻🤗

I so agree with you. Listen to your lawyer. The first thing mine told me was remove that wedding ring. My attorney put in the decree that I was to be the beneficiary of his retirement and sadly he passed away 6 years later from cancer. I am so grateful I listened to my attorney. I really would not be able to live comfortably without that retirement money.

When you first moved and spoke to us I knew by your broken spirit that you were dealing with hard things as separation and/or divorce. There is nothing worse than a broken spirit. I imagine many women who get divorced are happy about it, depends on the situation of course and what led to the decision. I am not happy about mine but I fully accept it now and that acceptance makes me happy 😊

Soooo sorrry to hear that you have been going thru this heartbreak & ordeal ! This Dark Night of the Soul ( as Caroline Myss puts it) is preparing you for great things ! You are not alone. And thank you for reminding so many of us that WE are not alone. I broke up w someone years back, who would not let go / turned into a platonic relationship … even tho I’d have been beyond fine with no contact. This individual is an energy vampire & has severely drained me. I think now I’ve finally cut the cords, where he will seek his narcissistic supply elsewhere. It is truly a serious health issue when you are an empath & energy vampires take advantage of you. Itz too much ! So thatz MY story ! I even have a female friend who’s an energy vampire & she too would not let me go. I think this time I may have succeeded on properly cutting ties. Yes it’s sad, but necessary. Thank heavens for the block option on the phone. But itz trickier than that. If you don't ween them off as undramatically ( but assertively) as possible, they will drain you still …. via destructive, draining thought forms.

I found doing new things like renovating my furniture and home so much fun. It’s all on the cheap but paint makes a difference. People told me to just go back to sewing and doing my regular things when my instincts were to change up the house and make it a home. My ex never wanted art on the walls or anything but his hoarded boxes of junk around the house. Now I have space and want a home that reflects my personality. I needed a new routine and to make a difference in my life. I’m still smiling after a year since I painted the main area. ❤
Yes! I find great pleasure in decorating and making a beautiful home too. Glad you find some healing in the process as well! Paint...so inexpensive for the change it makes!

I am a new subscriber, and I know exactly how you feel, I went through the whole process as well, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel, don’t ever give up, give yourself time and your heart as well, keep believing in true love, I have never given up, and I found my soulmate and I just got remarried, I gave myself 6 years to let my heart and soul heal, I can careless what others think, keep going keep fighting for what you believe in, learn to love yourself again, find what makes you stronger and laughter is a huge plus, believe me you will get through this

Sending you big hugs.❤ I see the same body language from you that I had. I divorced a narcissist last year. My take aways are: Get mentally strong enough to believe in yourself. It also took me months to say the D word out loud. I started decluttering my stuff years before leaving so I didn’t have to do it in the thick of things. If your lawyer isn’t moving the case along, get another rather than giving them the benefit of the doubt. You still have to pay them. Lawyers drained my bank account and the second lot wouldn’t use anything the first one had done.
Be careful who you confide in. Even if it’s close family and best friends. They will offer advice ad naseum thinking they’re helping. I had 4 people for 1-2hrs per day for 6 months telling me what to do and not thinking I was capable of making my own good choices. When you’ve been under the thumb of a narc, you behave differently always trying to avoid arguments and their wrath so that’s what people see of you. You can tell them that you can’t do something one way because of X and you’ve put a lot of thought into your plan but they don’t listen. Then they get annoyed with you because it’s all going too slowly for them and you’re still down.
I’ve gone and am going through 3 stages of healing. A: researching the ex’s addictions and undiagnosed personality disorder. That lead me to the fact that he was never going to change. B: I wasn’t in control of anything during the lawyer phase as no one addressed my concerns despite family saying the lawyers are there to fight for you. This lead me to depression and not functioning. Telling people to snap out of it isn’t helpful. It was made worse by people who don’t understand narcs and how you die by 1000 cuts. They say because you’re not around him any more then the problem is over, so get over it, it’s been X amount of time. That thinking is not helpful. C: Learning to trust your instincts after 30+yrs of being told you can’t do anything right and you’re useless. I’ve done therapy since I found out about the ex’s fun life and it’s completely changed my mindset. I’m learning new things, how to do chores that work for me.
Take care of your heart everyone. This time will pass and just feel and acknowledge the stages of stigma, grief and healing. Dance to your favourite song in the morning. Thank yourself for putting on your socks. Fake smile at yourself in the mirror. I bawled for 2 weeks trying to do that, then it got to a fake smile, then a real one then a grin. It took a few months but worth it. You have to start healing when you don’t want to. Sorry this was long. ❤

Divorce can be one of the most emotionally difficult times in a life. Glad you can speak the words now. That is the first step to recovery of joyful times. Step by step you will get through it.

My head and heart are not completely in alignment but unfortunately I cannot afford to live as a retired woman to not have my husband’s income.
I always advocate keeping a marriage together if at all possible with the exception of a few situations. If those are happening, I fully encourage one to leave but completely understand the financial difficulty that poses...you have to do what's best for you and make a collective decision. Wishing you all the love and happiness life has to offer ❤️
of course men take divorce harder, they don't want to let go of their cook, clean and bottle washer. We make life for them so easy and uneventful. They don't know how to stand on their own 2 feet. We women keep the fort running and men are happy with that.
I have been separated for 1 year. After 49 years of marriage. I will tell you I cried and felt bad but in the end I have gotten through it and you will also . Hang in there and take care of your self.

I have always been single, but I know that normal break ups are difficult, but divorce is a whole lot harder because it isn't just a breakup that you thought this union would last forever, but dealing with legalities, splitting up assets, selling and relocating to start again. Then you have friends who may feel they can't remain friends and if you have kids, you got that to deal with to. It is a big upheaval and it is hell. But in your case, you made your decision, stuck to your guns and stayed your course through the storm. This is to show you that you are stronger than you know. That door is closed and a new door or chapter is opening so embrace the new changes as new possibilities. Hugs!

I'm struggling with the decision to file for divorce within a year. It's been a long time coming. I am currently making plans to be independent after 36 years of codependency. I truly need to turn my life around. I'm dealing with layers of issues that make it logically clear. I'm a loyal person, so my heart also aches with the disappointment of a failing marriage.

I had a strong feeling when you moved that you were separated. Your sadness just showed how devastated you were. You will be ok. The love for someone does not ever go away for some, like myself, but you are able to move on and deal with it. I pray it all goes smoothly for you. You will have ups and downs, but God is there for you to lean on. So are your friends so be sure to let them help you along the way. Keep busy. As with anything else, it also depends on each situation and your perspective on life. I’m not a huge believer in divorce and would not encourage anyone to take that approach unless they have exhausted their options and of course if there’s abuse or infidelity then that’s a wrap. You can’t live in a relationship if the person is abusing you or your children or even if they abuse themselves to that extent…. With that being said you do what’s best for you

My heart aches for you because I have been right where you are. I was married 20 years and worked with him to build the kind of life similar to yours. Unfortunately for me, he met someone younger who stole his heart. As time went by, the happy life I thought I had with him was a complete lie and so I let him go. I was devastated but trusted God. I have now found the love of my life who treats me with so much love and respect and we will be celebrating our 4th anniversary tomorrow. Although my lifestyle has drastically changed, I would not change anything because I feel so safe and loved in my new marriage and it has made all the difference. It’s not easy but keep walking towards the light at the end of the tunnel. God bless.

I have only just found you. I am awful, sorry. The demise of a relationship is very hard. I have been divorced after 10 years of marriage with a child. The emotional roller coaster is exhausting. Somehow, we find the strength to keep going and eventually get easier. I have now remarried years later, and I can assure you things happen for a reason. I pray you find peace and experience joy, hope, and love. Take time for yourself and listen to lawyers. You are going to be ok. ❤
