@@TheeChurchGuitarist do you have a PDF of these chords? I just started playing Gospel Church, which is me having to relearn everything, I been playing Modern worship all these years, which is easy in comparison!
As a country player with a degree in jazz guitar from an HBCU, this was the video I needed. Thank you 🙏 I’ve always loved classic gospel guitar but didn’t don’t have a background in that musical or church tradition. I’m definitely implementing the info here into my country and jazz playing. 🙏 thank you!
That's why I'm here also. Playing r and b, funk, and gospel for over 40+ years. Not until NOW do I have the thirst for quartet guitar. I've always had my Gretsch Black Panther 9 years touring, studio, church. I just got a Gretsch 5230T just for Church and learning Gospel Guitar the RIGHT way.
I can give you a godly kiss my brother... you opened up some things that OTHER musicians and guitarist could not explain properly.... I saved this video a long time ago but I was not ready for it until now... no one explained triads like you did... I knew what they are but didnt know how to form them on the guitar... they are rather simple if you understand root, 1st inversion and 2nd inversions and movable chords... and chord scales + knowing your notes.... this video was extremely helpful with helping me get the sound that I was missing. I was playing a minor ONE when it should have been a major ONE.... mine didn't sound BAD with other musicians but I know my chords never sounded like THEIRS and you helped me realized why... it was simple... I was not adding the major 3rd to the ONE. I was playing everything as a minor or a dominant 7, which is a b7 and b3 but the sound I was missing was the major 3... and the triad 3-5-1 gave that to me thanks to you.... either guitar musicians are selfish and dont want to help others, either they dont know what the chord names are or they simply dont know how to teach.... even with calling a Bb a B I still could follow along with this and you are on point and gracious to show others how to play.... I appreciate you... Im hoping and praying your channel is monitored and God is blessing you according to your giving spirit. I know Theory but Im learning how to apply the theory into application. I am currently writing a book about music theory, I would love to feature you in my book. if you are interested please inbox me on my channel... God Bless you. you gained a subscriber as well as a new like.
I’m 12 minutes in and I’ve learned so much already… I’ve been playing guitar for almost 10 years now and I think this is the most insightful lesson I’ve ever heard. God bless you brother, thank you for this!
The intro music. I normally skip through entrances especially the music and what not Yours is the first I started grooving , and once it ended I REWINDED IT before I even watch the actual video...... Lol thank you for the lesson
Man bra god bless you bro I’m 17 and I’ve only been playing for 4 years but I’ve been trying to grab this stuff down for the longest no matter who I looked too i just couldn’t get it but you was willing to spill the sauce and I appreciate you for that great video and lesson the energy is amazing 💯
This is what I needed! I really appreciate "The Turn Around". I appreciate you teaching it with clarity without going too fast. Thank you for also calling out the chords while showing us good finger placement for them as well. Thank you for taking your time teaching this. Definitely will take my time learning this one.

Thank you for naming and matching the grooves to the progression. It bugs me that other teachers don't explain it lol I think of everything through numbers and degrees of the key. Not notes. Very helpful!
Thank you. Your Gretsch guitar is beautiful. Your timing is impeccable. Your right hand is like a metronome you are a great player. Thank you for this wonderful lesson I will be studying it.
Really nice explanation of all these chords. Thank you for taking the time to let us hear each note in every chord. Sometimes in these types of videos, it's hard to see where each finger is positioned. Nicely done sir. Subscribed!
DUDE! You are simply fantastic! What a fascinating, educational...and entertaining, video! Many thanks and carry on. Peace be unto you, my brother of the six strings.
I know this may not make sense to some but the actual key is Ab Major.... why? because Bb is Dorian which is the 2 of Ab Major.... so when we say the ONE, that in reference to Bb in Dorian mode... but that would mean the key is NOT in Ab Major.... but it actually theoretically in the key of Ab Major... and that would change the NUMBER system or the chord scale... in other words, you can call this Bb Minor.... 1-4-5 which is correct.... but if you look at this as modes... is defiantly Dorian which is the 2 of Ab.... the 2 is a melodic minor I believe.... where you are adding the 9 and the 13th of the Bb in other words the 2 and the 6. its all how you approach this depending on what KEY or tone you want to call it....
The single most important video for church guitarists right here. You can sub these chords in at any time vs playing basic major or minors. Learn the number system and understanding this becomes soo much easier. Your picking and accenting then becomes your style. Cheers bro!

Thanks for the tutorial! You are saving my LIFE lol I just got back into playing lead guitar for my church and I’m definitely struggling with a lot of the really “churchy” grooves and sounds. I’m moving along slowly but surely, and this video helps tremendously🙌🏽
Great channel! Old guy, here! I just started learning praise/gospel guitar thanks to UA-cam tutorials like yours, although I’ve (kinda) played guitar for years. Your style and tone in particular are what I’ve been looking for. (I’d like to hear you tear it up in a performance setting). Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I’m sure I’m not the only person who’s loving it. Great looking guitar, btw. I hope UA-cam-based music instructors are getting support (maybe even endorsements) from some of the instrument and gear companies out there. If not, then you should, because you’re selling the hell out of that Gretsch.
