Quick comment on the Benson Germanium Fuzz and Stonk Box ability to regulate the temperature. There isn’t a fan inside, but is a really brilliant design. Chris Benson was able to set a fixed bias of the germanium transistors by warming to a preset temp. around 100°F. The design of the pedal was centered around the temperature to sound best. The pedal self regulates and has a temperature controlled system to stay very close to 100°F in nearly all scenarios…unless you’re playing in the middle of the desert. There is also added a passive pickup simulator to the circuit, which allows you to place it anywhere on your pedalboard without running into impedance issues like other two- and three-transistor fuzz pedals.
Great tones and playing as usual from Nathanial, but Dan’s knowledge of these fuzzes was so interesting. And his answers to Nathanial’s questions IMO, were perfectly thought out ,clear and concise.
Little correction, David Gilmour didn't used a Big Muff on The Division Bell, he used one on PULSE. His distortions on The Division Bell were Tube Screamers and a Proco Rat. Having said that, that Civil War Muff is my favorite.
