This is what I like. Forget all those U.S. woodworkers and their fancy Festool Dominos. Practical solutions. "That'll do". "Close Enough". Bish Bash Bosh. Job done! Makes you proud to be British!
Cheers buddy ! I really appreciate it 🍻
Just stumbled across this video and agree. This is the first “simple” wardrobe build I’ve seen that doesn’t start with £2000 worth of panel saw , dado stack and Festool proprietary tools , in a workshop the size of an aircraft hanger .
I can’t put into words how funny that comment is 😂
Festool is European...
Nice job. I like the fact that you are using normal DIYer tools so us amateurs can do the job too. Nice simple build yet effective and practical
Thanks for the comment, I like to make these tutorials accessible to the diyers
I like your honesty, you're not afraid to admit to little mistakes.
We all make them. 👍
They wouldn’t put rubbers on pencils if we didn’t make mistakes mate 👍🏻 cheers for the comment buddy 🍻
As a nearly retired chippy I loved the no nonsense simplicity so had to subscribe
Cheers mark ! Glad to have you on board buddy !
I've watched hours and hours of wardrobe building vids and yours simplifies it nicely for a novice. Thanks a lot, 👍 really appreciate it! 🙏
Brilliant ! That’s great to hear ! Thank you and thanks for the comment ! I really appreciate it ! Means a lot.
This was a very simple and easy way to build a wardrobe such a helpful and wonderful video. Thank you for sharing.
You’re welcome and thank you for your kind comment !
hi Lewis - really like the media centre video you recently posted which brought me back to this one of yours. I have a space about 3 times the width of the wardrobe you've done here and wondered if i could (try to) replicate what you've done here and then copy it over twice more to make fitted wardrobes? I want to keep costs down so don't need backs so think this way would be great. Just worrying about weight/force etc. Also will be going into cavity walls but assume no issue as long as i use the right wallplugs!
Just came across your channel. Straight talking down to earth chippy. Really enjoy all the content I’ve seen. Thanks for sharing! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Cheers Martin, I really appreciate that mate, glad to have you as a subscriber mate !
Decent work. No faffing about. Customers happy, everyone's happy.
Nice one buddy ! Really appreciate your comment 👍🏻
Thanks so much for this clear tutorial. Wanted to build a wardrobe in both my son’s bedrooms in the recesses. Built a desk and shelves in the other recess but was stuck deciding how to make the wardrobe. Followed your video, added veneered door and matching veneered shelves to side. Looks great and I’m so pleased with it. Thanks again, will look through your other videos for more inspiration 👍
That’s awesome buddy ! So glad I could help ! Nothing better then building some thing yourself is there 🍻
Just what I was looking for very easy and clear. Hope your still following this post. Can I ask do you have any showing building the carcass you mentioned, any tips for achieving accurate measurements, what thickness MDF and how was it painted primed then what paint do you recommend. If you don’t mind please. 🙏 Subscribed
I haven’t as yet but I will get a video up of me doing this soon, this was 18mm mdf

*WELL DONE!* I quite enjoyed this video - very simple yet concise!
Cheers buddy, I really appreciate your comment 🍻
Subscribed just on this plain talking, accessible build that regular folks can follow . Cheers mate
Cheers buddy, thanks for the support and happy to have you on board ! 🍻
Good to see another way of fitting wardrobes. Dare I say a 'budget' method, but well worth a watch. Subscribed 👍🏻
Deffo a budget simple way of building wardrobes Stephen 🍻
You dare say? That’s the whole point of the video…
Thanks for this. I've only ever built a letter rack, and the materials were pre-cut! I want to make some fitted furniture. Just moved into a house, I have no power tools, I don't want to spend a fortune, so nice to see how you cope with some basic tools and limited space too.
Get yourself a track saw, even a budget one, that will be the most versatile too for you 👍🏻 good luck ! And keep me updated
Thank you for this video! You're efficient entertaining with explaining without overkill like some channels. Refreshing video! Don't change your style, I'll be tuning in more! And haha the glue drip- that killed me! :D
Wow that was a very nice comment, thanks you very much buddy ! 👍🏻
Very good video Lewis....I've also watched the video with sliding mirror wardrobe doors. Is there any possible chance of seeing your process of building a sliding mirror wardrobe that does not involve drilling into the ceiling. I'm a female who loves diy ......
Super helpful video! Thank you!
Thank you very much annabel 🍻
Fantastic! This gives me the confidence that I can make some wardrobes
That’s brilliant ! Let me know how they come out !
Thanks for this, Im an amateur and I wanted a backless wardrobe as it is going on an outside wall of a solid wall built house so trying to avoid mould issues in the future it looks good so Im off to buy wood!
Fair played to you lad, have to do similar in the house, great instruction!
Cheers Thomas for your comment! Hope the video helps 🍻👍
Very nice. Learn a lot with this video. Thanks.
Thank you very much !
You make this look so simple I think I will build my own too.
Thank you very much for your comment Chantel, good luck with your build, let me know how you get on !
@@LTWCarpentry Her ceiling is now being held up with steel props.
Hi I've never built anything before and this appears simple enough. Could you tell me what mdf you used and wood. Thanks
This was all made from 18mm mdf. Thanks
Great video. I would really recommend using a microphone or wired headphones for the voice overs as the sound quality is a bit sub par.
Loved this! Shows exactly how to do the more finnicky bits and helps as a really nice visual guide for the less apt. Thanks m8! Subbed and awaiting more stuff ^^
Thanks for the comment buddy ! Really appreciate it and glad to have you on board ! More stuff coming any day now !
Really your work, gives me inspiration and a lot of tips for projects I hope to do myself soon.
Awesome ! So glad I could help you ! 🍻
Love your videos mate. So bloody useful. Any chance you can share what a job like this one, simple wardrobe, would cost?
I’m about to attempt to build a wardobe x media wall as my bedroom is also my living room so need functionality.
This is by far the most easiest to understand video I’ve watched. Total novice but determined to succeed to save some money. Thanks for this. I feel a lot more confident now 😂😅
That’s brilliant Sammi ! Thanks for the kind words ! Keep me updated with how you get on ! If you need any help let me know 🍻
Try to avoid glue until you're sure of your work. That way it will be easy to take apart and redo bits if needed. Glue sets quick!! Good luck and enjoy the process
just the sort of thing i wanted, helped me plan how i will fit mine….soon
Perfect buddy ! Really glad I could help ! Please keep me updated with your build ! Lewis !
Nail gun for coving is a new one, going to try that!
Works a treat mate 🍻
Spot on been looking for a cheap option to get some floor to ceiling wardrobes in our spare room and this is perfect ...., subbed :)
Brilliant buddy, glad I could help ! And welcome to the channel mate 👍🏻
Love the video. How do you make sure the panel attached to the wall is square if you've got non-square walls like I have?! Thank you
I really liked the simplicity of your video nice one 👍
Thank you very much John 🍻
Fantastic job just what I needed wardrobe on both sides with bed in the middle....had two joiners in to get a price unbelievable prices.....
Cheers for the comment buddy, what sort of prices where they charging if you don’t mind me asking buddy ? Materials are expensive at the moment but also there is a lot of work out there so some people are taking the p*** with prices.
All In 850
@@MrJokerh61 yeah mate that is on the heavy side, deffo a case of “we’ve got loads on so price it high and if we get it it’s a result” ! Some people do rip people off ! Or in your case they try too !
@@MrJokerh61 was that for two wardrobes a similar size to the one that's been built in this video?
exactly what i was looking for - thanks so much
Glad I could help buddy, thanks for the comment 🍻👍
top tip jump into Howdens and ask for a couple of sample handles . by the way I've moved from London and I often work in tenements up here in Scotland I've a makita macpac box that is empty and I just put what I need in it so I don't have to drag myself up and down the stairs .nice vid fella
Absolutely amazing! Looks 👌🏼
Thank you very much 🍻
Thanks for great video.
When you are attaching strips are you tapping rawlplugs through MDF.
It looks like you are.
If so, what size screw, plugs and drill bit as that shortcut would make my life easier attempting what you made.
Thankyou
Hi Tracey, thanks for your comment really appreciate it! I use red plus, 6MM drill bit and 4 x 50 screw, hope that helps 🍻👍
Thanks for such a simple video. Did you just build it directly on top of the carpet? Wouldnt you cut the carpet around it so the boards go to the hard floor?
You can do yes but this customer asked me not to in this instance
Hello mate. Great video and gives me the confidence to give something like this a go. One thing I would like though is bit more info. on which screws you use, thickness of mdf etc. You've smashed that thousand subscribers and got one more in me
Hi Martin ! Firstly thanks for the comment mate, and the subscribe. I used 18mm mdf for this build and use 4x50mm gold screws to construct it. If you need anything else please let me know mate !
Nice one - thanks for that!@@LTWCarpentry
Lewis all the kregg jigs are excellent quality for the price , great content mate
Cheers mate, I’ve actually brought one since making that video. Really like it actually 👍🏻
What size screws did you use please mate? Building exact in our alcoves cheers fella
Cheers buddy, I used 4x50mm screws mate
Love this technique but dont have coving, is it still possible to use the same method? How do you secure the free standing side if you dont have coving to slot it in to?
Yes completely possible, the coving cut out isn’t providing any support really.
Kreg hinge jig are really good I’ve got one myself
Nice one buddy, I’ve actually had 3 since making this video 👍🏻
I use the Kregg hinge guide, had it a few years now and find it really good. I didn’t notice the drip but I’ve also done that with coving 😂
Yeah mate I have looked a the Kregg and I am tempted by that one. !! Mate I had a nightmare with that coving 😂😂😂
At least the corner looked square.........
Did my daughter's coving in a Victorian flat and the chimney breasts certainly weren't square which entailed a lot of cutting, measuring, trimming as well as copious amounts of filler. Looked good in the end and I also used plaster coving.
Excellent job on the wardrobe.......
Hey there thanks so much for this excellent video. Beginner question here but can I ask why you are using two different types of drill?
Hi Laureline, thanks for your comment 👍 one is called an SDS drill which is mainly for masonary drilling, the other is a combi drill, which is for drilling/driving screws, hope that helps 🍻
Great video, will really help me out. What MDF thickness would you recomend please? Thanks.
Cheers for the comment Andrew, I use 18mm mdf for these, cheers 🍻
Hi great video. Makes things simple and doable. Just a question about the door fitting. Did you put something on the floor when you were fitting the door to lift it off t?( i cant see the bottom of the door) Thank you
Cheers for the comment buddy, yes I did I cut an offcut to the correct size and used that mate
Great video. What if the walls are not square? I'd like to see a video on that, or maybe you can recommend something.
Good job I learned a lot. Greetings from Los Angeles
Cheers buddy ! Much appreciated ! 🍻
great work , nice and simple ! Please let me know how much cost one wardrobe like that ? and how many day get for you to build and finish until end ? many thanks.
Thank you for your comment, I’m afraid I don’t discuss money on my channel.
i love this build.........a very nice build indeed!!!
Thank you very much
Brilliant. Enjoy watching that to challenge a simple build. And to think, some of these more premium builds are £2,500-£3,500 😵
Thanks darren ! Really appreciate it mate
Great video bud! Nothing wrong with 3 hinges, you go with the numbers that work for you! Look at the Kreg hinge jig. Probably less than 50 pounds your side of the world!
Yes I have actually brought that one since making this video, I now have the bangood one also, both great
At first with the strips of wood
On the wall to get over the skirting if the walls aren’t level how would you level it up ?
I would use packets behind that first piece of timber to get that level then build everything off of that
@@LTWCarpentry thanks 👍
Great video mate, would love to know what screws you use for MDF fixing...?
Cheer for the comment buddy, I use the cheap screws from wickes mate 👍🏻
Thanks for this video, its a great help, can I ask what rawlplugs and screws are you using.
Thanks for the comment, I can’t actually remember what I exactly used as this was a while ago but my go to are the plugs that are branded raw plugs the red ones normally
Would this same concept work if installing into an alcove?
Yes it would indeed Sarah, you just need to do both sides the same as the wall side in the video
This is a guy who knows how to work!
Cheers buddy 👍🏻
Nice result and interesting video.
Do you ever have problems with warping of plain doors that length?
Hi Steve, thanks for you comment, no mate I don’t to be honest, if you paint in both sides of the door and have enough hinges you shouldn’t have a problem
@@LTWCarpentry Thanks - good point about the hinges!
Quality video. What sort of blade did you use to cut the doors? Did you put the rough edges towards the hinge side and sanded them and left the factory sawn edge towards the middle?
I use the stick festool blades normally mate but this could have been a different one I’m not sure, I always try to cut a fresh edge on my boards where possible as the factory edges aren’t always true. All edges are sanded regardless, hope this helps buddy
Great video, gives me hope I can do something similar! Is that wood (mdf?) likely to warp over time? And is it better to paint it once it's in or paint it before putting it together?
Cheers for the comment buddy, the mdf will be fine aslong ad you use it the way it’s intended to be used
About to undertake an MDF wardrobe.. This is really useful..
how important is a back panel?
What do you do for finishing?
I would t say the back panel is important but I dose help to keep everything square and more rigid 🍻
@@LTWCarpentry awesome thank you.
Love it! How much excluding painting please?
Great work
Thank you 🍻
Hello Mate, Such a great video. so much insight after watching this. May i know the name of the stand you got there?
Hi mate, thank you for you comment, I’m afraid I’m not sure what you mean about stand mate ? Do you mean the benches I was using ? Thanks
You asked for recommendations for a better concealed hinge jig. I bought the Kreg one but the supplied forstner bit was as blunt as a bus.Sent it back to FFX and they replaced the jig...same problem, terrible bit. Managed to rig it with an alternative make of bit (not easy) which works better but overall I'd give the Kreg jig no more than 4/10.
Hi Bob you know I actually ended up buying the same one and I had exactly the same problem! Joke isn’t it! 👍🍻
@@LTWCarpentry it's bonkers.
Thank you!
Really useful video for my home renovation.
Your more then welcome ! Glad I could help !
Great video. I need three of these built. Do you cover Brentwood at all?
Hi Steven, yes I do. Please feel free to message me and we can get this sorted
Thanks. How do you choose your wood? What type of wood did you buy? Do you know if B&Q cut woods to sizes?
Hi, this is made from 18mm mdf, and yes most bugger b&q stores will cut to size
Loved this video. Adapt and over come. I have the kreg hinge jig brilliant bit of kit 👍🏻
Cheers buddy 👍🏻 yes a few people have mentioned the kregg jig now, I think that what I’m going to go with !
Good video! Are you using pilot holes when screwing into MDF, or do you find it's OK without?
Thanks for the comment buddy, always pre drill in mdf mate, it will deffo split if not
Nice one. Subbed. Keep up the good work mate
Cheers buddy! Really appreciate that! 🍻👍
Great video!
Would using plywood or wood shelves with the MDF carcass make the unit more suitable for load bearing - say about 12kg max per shelf - 3 or four shelves. Thanks!
I would go with ply shelves fort this application 👍🏻
Brilliant - thanks 👍
How long did this take you? Nice work, simple approach
About a day buddy, thanks for the comment buddy 🍻
Thank you for this video!
Thank you for your comment 👍🏻
Are you drilling into solid walls or stud walls? If the latter presumably you'd already located the stud before you began drilling?
The back wall was solid and the side wall was a stud wall, which I found the studs prior to fixing in to it
Very helpful mate, just wondering what the score is when you measure the front doors. Do you measure the total width then take a few mm off for the gap?
Cheers mate, I measure the overall width, divide by two the take four mm off that measurement, that gives me a nice gap in between the doors and a gap on the edges aswell. Hope this helps buddy
Blimey. That was simple a Very good. I’d feel confident in doing that but I Do need to sort myself a decent track saw and then find clients who don’t want complicated builds. 😆 👏🏾👏🏾
Cheers mate ! Yes finding the clients that don’t massive great big builds is that hard part 😂 to be honest mate I started off with a woodstar saw and that did me for years ! Only after that did I upgrade to the festool and makita. If that saw did burn out I would probably still be using it now !
Can you tell me what thickness of mdf you used? All the same thickness or different thickness for the doors and sides. Thanks am going to try to put a basic built in wardrobe in my cabin.
Have you ever installed for Sharps?
No mate, what makes you ask ? 👍🏻
hi, re the jig, if you didn't do this - turn the jig upside down, pull off the outer ring from the two black dials which you turn to set the jog from the edge of the door
Nice one buddy, I’ve actually brought another one now 👍🏻
Really useful video. Thanks so much, learned a lot.👏🏼👍🏽
Glad I could help ! If your stick on anything please feel free to get in touch ! 👍🏻
Hi loving the video, what thickness mdf are you using, I’m planning on building some floating units and can’t decide weather 18mm or 23mm thick which would be best?
Hi buddy, these are 18mm carcasses and doors, is there a reason your thinking of going for 25mm ? I normally would only do that for strength or if you want a chunkier look
@@LTWCarpentry I was thinking for door thickness but 18mm would probably be easier to do and cheaper for materials. Thank you
Really enjoyed this video thanks
Your welcome, thanks for you comment 👍🏻
Nice hat like the glue I will look for some easy to use
I’ll give you some dad got some on the van
If you don’t have coving, how would you support the left wall at the top?
The coving isn’t there to support anything, it’s just decorative. You still need to fix it in permanently, I would use angle brackets or use a cross brace and fix in the the ceiling
Ah I mean the coving you cut into. It looks like it’s supporting the left board when you first put it up?
amazing Job
Thank you David !
Whats the kit you used to fit the hinges on the door mate ? Only part im struggling with. Thanks.
Morning buddy, it’s called a hinge jig, this was a cheap one that I don’t recommend at all.

Cheers Mel, glad to have you onboard 🍻
Hi gonna be doing a fitted wardrobe soon and got a couple of questions, was thinking of using white melamine chipboard to save painting, apart from having to edge it what are the draw backs with it? Also is it not easier to remove and cut skirting as it wont be seen?
Great simple vid for people having a first time go!
Hi and thanks for you comment, trite are no draw backs to be honest, other then t being more expensive, melamine is a great option it’s just a lot ofcustomers want to keep the cost down. Yes it’s easier to remove the skirt but I like to leave it in incase the unit ever gets removed the skirting is still in place
Great job,thanks
Nice one buddy ! 🍻
Great video pal. Could you tell me what sort/size hinges you used please? It’s a minefield
Yes of course buddy, I use 35mm inset concealed hinges 👍🏻
@@LTWCarpentry they all come in different lengths though don’t they?
@@chriswoodward349 no they are all standard sizes, if you go for the 35mm ones

Yes 18mm

Great video, you make it look so simple but know I’ll still struggle!
For your focusing issue, your camera may have been on auto focus which isn’t ideal when there’s quite a bit of movement in the frame. For those types of shots switch to manual focus and you should be sound
