    Muscle Car Of The Week Episode #86: 1970 Dodge Challenger 426 Hemi Convertible Video
    www.musclecarof... - This week, we take a look at 1/12 of the total production of 1970 Dodge Challenger convertibles built with the 426 Hemi V8. Of the 12, 9 were US cars, with the other three built for export. This is one of the nicest restorations in the Brothers Collection, and that is saying a lot!

    The availability of the excellent 440 engine for half the price of the hemi option really cut the legs out from under the hemi production numbers.

    You are exactly right about the marketing. The Challenger was positioned as a competitor to the Mercury Cougar and Pontiac Firebird while the Barracuda ('Cuda) was positioned to compete against the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro.

    Don't know how I missed this video but HELLS YA DRIVE IT!!! Never had a challenger but started off with a 1969 Superbee with a 383 and 727 then a 1969 Dart GTS also with a 383 but a manual 4 with the dog leg Hurst, next a 1971 Plymouth Roadrunner with a 340 and 727 auto then finally a 1979 Powerwagon that had a 360 auto. I wish like hell I would have kept all or just one of them. Great video and story man. SOME DAY!!!

    Such a rare, expensive and irreplaceable car must be given special considerations. You might drive it to shows and the occasional summer stroll but that’s about it. This car needs to be preserved most of all even though instinctively you’d love to drive the shit out of it!

    If I owned a 1968-70 Era muscle car like this one as rare as it is, I would do very limited driving in it. Primarily as a show car considering its low production. It's a difficult decision to drive or not to drive, however, as a "rare car" owner I would have to be paid a large fee to display the car at a "dealership", and even then trailer it to be displayed. Baby the baby all the way!

    You need to change the intro sound bite of that crispy V8 hitting the rev limiter and use a actual 60s muscle car sounds,like the induction sound when you flipped the air breather lid over or thrush mufflers.

    i have 8 different brands of small and big block cars and i drive all of them if they are ready and able. i almost bought a 70 purple 383 auto but ended up with a 69 440 4 speed Cuda the end of last summer. yes it is not a O.E. rare rich boy toy but i have it,, so it is a one of none and i like that. all of my toys are not in top shape but i drive them like i stole them. rich i am not, just not married.

    • @cali2468

    What's the point of having a really nice car, if you're not going to drive the hell out of it? I'd feel sorry for any car that isn't driven and stuck in a museum; or at least that isn't taken out and given a nice exercise every once and awhile.

    • @slacadjuster237
      @slacadjuster237 8 років тому

      +Dugie555 Because of the value of the car. Hence the reason not driven

    • @Dugie555
      @Dugie555 8 років тому

      +Slac adjuster Yeah, maybe, but then what's the point of having a car that you won't drive? I'd understand if you would be cautious when driving it, but then, not driving it all is kinda sad then.

    • @slacadjuster237
      @slacadjuster237 8 років тому

      +Dugie555 It is kinda sad, I agree with you. But I wouldn't drive it either. You can bet it's worth 6 figures. And I wouldn't wanna drive it around either. Take away the value of it. And if someone runs into you??? Like yikes

    • @Dugie555
      @Dugie555 8 років тому

      +Slac adjuster hmm I can't disagree with you there either, maybe if you were rich enough then you'd probably have your own personal track?

    I would drive it because it is a restored car not a o.e. car put together by some workers under the influence of good morning sickness if that is to me a real o.e. car and not just a numbers together car or even a totally fake numbers car. It's a car people. Not a hidden golden pocket watch . What ever happened to the saying "If you have to ask about the gas millage , then you do not need this car." understanding. If you have the money to own it then drive it and be happy you can. I guess some people buy airplane's and they never fly them but to me that is just wasteful. They should be seen , not just talked about. I drive/own 8 fakers but for some strange reason my smile is just as nice and so do the others that see it driving by are. Young faces seem to light up a lot even if they do not know what that is. Bet he/she does not care about numbers either. Go big or go home. Let the real boys and girls play with their adult toy's.
