    The '69-'70 Shelby cars are my favorite; they look mean as hell. My parents bought a Grabber blue / white interior GT500 fastback brand new and, as an 8 year old kid, I though that car was the coolest on the streets.

      It was! I'd love to own a '70 GT500! They are really all '69's - the 70 models were just updated '69 cars that didn't sell but I like the stripe kit and changes to the '70.

    I completely agree with Kevin, this is a really fun car to be in. Classy white inside, exciting orange outside, top down with chirping tires, this is a great car to have in anyone's collection!

    OH yeah -- mine was a '68 GT500 vert. in Wimbledon White, sold in '78 for a pretty penny -- LOL not as pretty as it would have today. These more comfortable Shelbys were my fave and yes I sure wish I had it today.

    The best Shelby Mustangs will always be the 65-68 models. My personal favorite will always be the 65 GT350R.

      That GT 350R WAS a race car that was STREET LEGAL! The missing back seat was too small to be useful, so take it out!

    The 69 and 70 are the toughest looking of the Shelby Mustangs.

  • @MBailey1977

    I know the Shelby is worth more but in 70 you got the 351 Cleveland option for the mach 1. All the 70 Shelby's being 69 got the Windsor.

    I loved the way the car looks. The early GT 350's could be considered muscle cars but that car is only a muscle car in looks and name. Sadly, it's no quicker than any other '69 mustang with a 4 barrel 351W. I'd still love to own one though - just for cruising.

      @Hawkster61 5 років тому +2

      The 1970 Mustang Mach 1 had a 351 Cleveland which was capable of making much more HP.

    The name of Shelby Mustang is as iconic as the man of that gave his name to the car. I am a fan of both.

    Another great video Kevin, and thank you for mentioning the Thunderbird rear tail lights. Most people have incorrectly said they are Cougar tail lights.

    • @oldtruck07
      @oldtruck07 5 років тому +1

      On the 67 and 68 Shelby's, the were Cougar taillights. The changed in 69 when the Cougars taillights changed also.

      The '67s had the COUGAR lights. Imho, they looked much better because they were almost chrome-free!

    Traditionaly I always thought the'65' cars the coolest because they were truly off the floor race cars. But I must say the '67' cars are also my favorite style. After that the became less apealing to me. Thank you.

    • @JackF99
      @JackF99 9 років тому +2

      I agree the '67 is the best looking Shelby! Same for the regular Mustang: clean, organic shape. Can see it in the original Bullitt Mustang. '70 Camaro & Firebird captured a similar look. Ford based the reborn retro 2005 'Stang on their '67 body style.

    When Ford originally sold these cars those "styling bars" were ROLL BARS in the Ford literature, but Kevin is right about them being FAKE roll bars. I learned this the HARD WAY, when my '68 GT 350 convertible was TOTALLED in a car fire, the only part of that "styling bar" that was left was a 1-1/2inch steel tube TACK WELDED in about 4 spots. In a rollover that bar would have collapsed like a wet noodle! I never heard of any rollover "class action" lawsuits against Ford, probably because there were so few of these Mustangs to get into rollovers! I still remember being in a "White Castle" when a Cop came over to admire the car FOR THIS STYLING BAR and he had answered a call for a traffic fatality the night before, he said, "if that car would have had this "bar" , the kid might have lived! Little did he OR I know that this was JUST a styling gimmick! Even with all this, I still remain an "ALWAYS FORD GUY" 50years later! Go figure!

    It happened to the Duesenburgs...all the J cars chassis/engine/trans platforms were made in 1929, yet they were released until the late 1930s, and even had changes made/added like the supercharged engines.

    • @jeremythompson9122
      @jeremythompson9122 5 років тому +1

      True. Duesenberg's were never mass produced though. I think they only sold the chassis on wheels with the driveline then you had to have a coach builder custom build whatever body you wanted. I love Duesenbergs. The most amazing cars ever produced. They were literally 3 or 4 decades ahead of their time when it came to engineering. They had a Straight 8 I think that made 320 horsepower with a supercharger...in 1928! Wasn't until the 1955 Chrysler 300 that another American car was good for 300 horsepower. I believe Fred Duesenberg invented hydraulic brakes too

    2 pinstripes were added on each side to differentiate the 70' from the 69' .from 3 stripes( one large, two small)...to 5 stripes on each side( one large center stripe ,4 smaller stripes).

    Love that hood and the color.....but not into convertibles.....at least for me. I had those Polyglass tires on my Roadrunner....H's on the back and one size smaller on the front. These were unusual tires in that if you wanted more traction you increased the pressure. I was told that at the strip, didn't believe it, tried it, and consistently went faster. Go figure....not a good traction tire in any way, shape or form, tho.....

    I think they stopped producing cars late summer usually for most makes to tool up for sept, intros so the seat belt really would be for a 70 car normally.

    I'm an Alabama Crimson Tide fan so obviously I don't like orange because of Tennessee, auburn and Florida but I think it would look better with the hood strips and top would look better if they were white.

    The stripes and top clash. Would look better with either (1) a White top, or (2) Black stripes. I love it though. I'd put aluminum heads on it (painted Blue of course), lower profile tires, and beat-the-bag out it! Then wash it, dry it, and carefully park it in the garage. ;)

      ***** I Had to Googgle it.
      BODY & INTERIOR
      There is a Mustang under the Shelby. The SportsRoof, rear quarters and doors were stock Mustang. Shelby tapped into the considerable resources of the Ford design team to come up with the race-bred look of the 1969-'70 models. To even call the 1969 Shelby a pony car would be a stretch. Literally. The distinctive front treatment of the Shelby added almost four inches to the standard Mustang length, and required fiberglass fenders designed to work with the stretched hood. The fiberglass work was farmed out to A. O. Smith, which churned out the 26 parts that helped transform a standard Mustang into the Shelby. Chrome trim on the leading edge of the long hood was met by fender chrome bits and the front bumper to form a rectangular maw punctuated by two round headlamps and a Cobra emblem. Twin Lucas FT8 fog lamps under the front bumper were controlled by a console-mounted toggle switch.

    08:19 Pig rich and and a weak burnout. With all the money "the brothers" have and the showing off, you'd think they'd hire a mechanic and a good driver
