The Worst Starlink Accessory - Gen 3 Pipe Adapter Review

- This has to be the worst Starlink accessory so far. In this video, I explain why you should avoid the Starlink Gen 3 Pipe Adapter mount. I walk you through the installation process and give you my thoughts along the way. Finally, I recommend a 3rd party alternative that is a much better design.

The starlink website is listing a new version of this now with a deeper mount and 2 set screws
The problem is the second screw is not on the opposite side - that's still not going to secure it adequately. It's just squeezing a pipe with screws pushing in on one side; same as the original just that there are two screws instead of one. It will still have the same problem as the original design, it just won't fall off as quickly. Still a hard pass for me.
@@Sui778 I believe if I were using this style of mount, I would use a type of pipe that isn't going to collapse, something like schedule 80 steel pipe which is very strong 'industrial' grade thickness, rather than galvanized or weaker metals.
Came to the same conclusion you did when I first open the box upon receipt a few months ago. But you didn’t address the most interesting question: how did a company comprised literally of rocket scientists (who were able to figure out how to land a rocket booster upright on a floating barge in the ocean) design such an obviously flawed simple product as a bad pipe mount? I’m assuming that Elon didn’t work on this…. But who did? Even a summer intern would have been able to do a better job!
My exact same thoughts when I first opened the box 🤔
I got my mount yesterday- it’s new and improved. Works just fine.
Deep pocket and two set screws.
I have it mounted to the old 2” DirecTV mounting pole on my roof.
Extremely solid.
The regular pipe adapter that everyone is trashing?
@@dosepulveda1 they redesigned it again from the video.....the one they originally sent was less deep with only one screw.....that was was horrible...the new one they are now offering seems to be much better and is deeper channel with 2 bolts....if its true then you wll save by going with it versus the other one listed as alternative
was thinking of being lazy and just adding it to my old direct tv dish they never got myself and its already mounted facing in the sky with no trees in view...prob be best
They can build rockets but they can't design an antenna mount? They must have been the engineers that were not smart enough to design rockets? I see a lot of this crap these days. It's why with my experience, I usually build my own stuff.
selling cutting edge revolutionary disruptive tech like bananas in a 3rd world market stall
high wind area?drill 2 holes and put 2 self tappers…problem solved
I agree! Anyone with common sense would see the solution instantly!
Actually this is the best accessory. It's steel and won't flex in the wind at heights 25' in the air. To secure it drill a small hole with a titanium drill bit and feed an eye bolt through, then add a second eye bolt through the pole as a cross bolt before tightening up with nylon lock nuts. Couldn't be more secure and cheaper then just about every other option with the added benefit of height. Holds up in storms no problem, might want to lower the telescoping pole 5 - 10' but personal preference, likely not an issue unless a tornado is headed your way. I even fly old glory and take it camping.
Thanks for posting this! My Gen3 equipment is due to arrive later this week, and my tentative plan was to buy this mount (once I settle on installation location). The third-party adapter you show does indeed look less bad than Starlink's (due to the depth of the receiver), but the circular shape is a fundamental flaw when the pipe is a smaller diameter than the receiver. They should instead be using a triangle, with a pair of set screws centered on one side. The set screws would press the pipe against the centers of the other two sides, providing far more support and eliminating the side-to-side wobble you showed on the roof.
I am worried that the adapter will pop off of the dish. Also, the flagpool buddy looks like it is made of plastic.
They must have done a third revision. Just ordered a kit and I’m going to mount to an offset mount off my Rohn tower. The pipe adapter I got has two set bolts about an inch apart. Not one. Ordered sept ‘24
I actually ordered this with our Gen 3 Dishy, but it had just been recalled, so the new one wasn't going to be shipped for weeks. We found an alternative and cancelled the order. Boy, am I glad!
I laughed seeing this video! My husband struggled with this mount and ended up modifying, rebuilding it so that we could get the right placement of the dish! Thankful for his ability to do these tasks 🥰
Try using locktite pn the setscrew. It shouldn't work it's way out.
Why not just send everyone a new screw???
Man that took 16 minutes to get to the point. Thanks for finally getting there
You’re welcome, thank you for supporting the channel!
How did you remove the Starlink pipe adapter from the dish?
Is it plastic or metal?
Channel Master has solved this Delima check out the "Channel Master Starlink Gen 3 Pipe Adapter - Pipe/Pole Mounting Adapter for GEN 3, V4 Starlink Dish" reasonably priced, durable, and from a company that has forgot more than Starlink knows about connecting to metal pipe LOL
Just drill a hole and voila
First off people need not assume rocket scientists design these mounts, this is laughable.
Second of all, just looking at it, a hole through the pipe on one side , slide the set screw and tighten it on the wall inside the pipe.
If set screw is too short, buy a longer one.
Yes yes we can all say why wouldn’t they get it right in the first place?
But how many 35$ items are perfect ? None
Your video saved me because I started questioning myself on what I was going to order and saw your video.
thnx bro living in NC with all the wind we get during hurricane season that pipe adapter starlink sent will not hold up.😁😁😁
They are going cheap because tesla is going under
Put a wooden dowl in the pipe...
Thank you for your input...
So it’s not just me, I didn’t buy yet but was thinking it surely doesn’t just rely on that shallow socket. Might be ok if you drill the pipe out and rivet nut it + loctite, but most people don’t have the tools and skills for that.
As of this week, Starlink is now offering a different design. It has a deeper socket and 2 set screws. It's now live on the shop and has replaced this version.
@@StarlinkHardware I hope it's easy to swap and refund. I just ordered the old crappy one and now just saw they have a reasonable looking upgrade. They should send me the new one for free....dream on. :-(
Does anyone know how to remove that adapter once installed without damaging the dish so I can replace it?
To remove the mast and adapter from the dish, pull up on the tab on the adapter plate and slide the entire assembly out.
After aligning the dish, I put a self tap screw in it. The mount is secured to the Viasat lo pro real good now.
3 quarter inch....
.. why not just send the Bolt .. ⁉️🤨🧰👨🔧
Would have been a lot cheaper and easier!
