  • In this video, we put the Coffee Tech DF83 coffee grinder to the ultimate test by grinding 1kg of coffee beans in a single session. We take you through the entire process from start to finish, providing a close-up view of the grinder in action.
We begin by setting up the grinder and selecting the grind size suitable for the beans we are using. We then begin the grinding process. You'll see how the grinder handles the load and get a sense of the noise level as it grinds through the beans.
We also provide an overview of the features of the Coffee Tech DF83, including its stepless adjustment system and large flat burrs. We talk about the benefits of using a grinder like this, including the ability to achieve a more consistent grind, which is essential for making high-quality coffee.
Throughout the video, we share our thoughts on the grinder's performance, highlighting any issues we encounter and discussing how we overcome them. You'll also see how we manage the process to ensure the coffee grounds are kept fresh and don't become overheated during the grinding process.
Overall, if you're interested in learning more about coffee grinders and the process of grinding large amounts of coffee, then this video is for you. 1kg in about 4 minutes = 4g/sec. It's a pretty quick grinder although seems long grinding this amount.

I don't expect many people wanting or needing to grind a whole kilo. The point was to see if it could. Where I see it may be applicable is if a cafe needs to grind say 250g for a customer then the DF83 is capable of doing so.

So can i use this for small coffee shop as main grinder for espresso? that can do 30-50 cups?

Technically, yes you would be able to, however just bear in mind that it would be quite manual as you would need to weight each dose and it would be up to you to stop the grinder for each dose. Normally a main grinder at a cafe has either a grind by time or grind by weight. The DF83 has neither. Can it do it? Yes. Is it the best workflow for this application? No.

You forgot to weight the yield if it's the same or still close to 1kg.

The end yield would have been very close to the 1kg if not exactly 1kg. You can see when we bellow at the end there is very little remaining coffee that comes out. In our testing retention is very low with the DF83. We have another video on our channel where you can see 5 back to back shots of 20g doses. In all 5 we had 20g of coffee come out.

      Oh no it might have had 0.3g retention it's not 1kg it's only 999.7g : D

Actually might have lost 0.5g to the static on the forks of the machine lol
Looks like they were actually grinding really finely here. Looks finer than standard filter grind at least!
How hot did the body of the grinder or grounds get? I noticed some grinders get toastier than others. This is a good torture test!

Grind setting was for espresso and the point of the test was not about retention or static but more as you stated a torture test to see if the grinder will fail.
In all honesty I was expecting it to stall however it powered through. Grinder body did not get too hot and grinds temp seemed ok.
I think what it does highlight is that the DF83 can grind say 250g of coffee for a retail sale for example. I do however doubt it will do a Turkish grind setting without stalling/clogging.

@@FrankiesBeansMachines I was kidding about the retention since it's negligible especially with that much volume!
