    I only knew about the Taiping rebellion very recently. Its beyond belief how westernised our view of history is. With 20-30 million people dead, youd think itd be a big deal. Makes one think that the Mongols are remembered as much considering how far west they got.

    Thanks for covering this topic well. At 2:33, though, the Opium Wars were between the Qing dynasty versus the British East India Company and the British Empire. This is more than just England. At 8:27 the word MEN is under the symbols for women and the word WOMEN is under the symbols for men. Many Chinese emigrated to the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand at this time, because the Taiping Rebellion was so brutal.

    Please, stop with the incessant Hitler obsession. Hitler was not just a frustrated artist- you obviously didn't study his life at all and his disillusionment following WWI that he ascribed to treason by certain peoples. At least get your facts straight. If you interpret Hitler so simplistically, it casts serious doubts on your interpretation of Hong Xiuquan.

According to the encyclopedia of war of about 6% of wars had religion as a primary cause half of which is attributed to Islam

    Hong Xiuquan's hatred toward the Manchu people also stemmed from the oppression of the Han people by the Manchu rulers. Under the rule of the Qing dynasty, the Han people did not have an easy life, as they were regarded as inferior by the Manchu rulers. In the past, the Manchus had carried out large-scale massacres and cultural eradication targeting the Han people.

    • @孙笑氚556
      @孙笑氚556 День тому +5

      Historically, the Manchu rulers issued orders requiring Han Chinese to shave their heads into the Manchu queue hairstyle, under the threat of execution, and prohibited them from wearing their traditional clothing. As a result, Hong Xiuquan adopted the act of cutting off queues and growing out one’s hair as a symbol of resistance against Qing rule. While some of Hong Xiuquan's actions were indeed reprehensible, considering the historical context, his hatred was not entirely without cause

    I believe that he was far more dangerous than Hitler due to the fact that he ultimately used religion and patriotism as powerful tools to establish his dream heavenly kingdom. However, considering the Chinese point of view, we could share a little bit of sympathy as that is the only way to strengthen the Chinese peoples so that he could unifies the country and have a chance to stand against great colonial superpowers.

      And the result would have been the thousands of years old Chinese culture based on Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism would have been destroyed. It would have been birth of another major abrahamic religion in the world after Christianity and Islam. And like they who destroyed all the indigenous cultures of Europe, America Continents and middle east respectively Taipings too would have destroyed all previous Chinese civilizations denoting them demonic. In fact all small countries around China would have been attacked subsequently. Taipings belived in revolution and conquest. Thank God it failed quick enough so that it could not live any continuous legacy, unlike Islam

    Taiping Rebellion is not Rebellion. It was straight Civil war between two powerful factions at that time in China. Hence why such high casualties. The one wanted changes in China hierarchy and the one in status quo. While Taiping initially had nobel purpose but gradually they go unhinged with genocide and had so many internal fighting.
