college-level ? Knowing how a 4 stroke engine works or differences between diesel and gasoline engines are a mandatory knowledge to get a drivers license in Poland.
I learnt about the function of these engines by pulling them apart and trial and error. Had I had access to the graphics of this video it would have made life easier. Thank you for your clear explanations. Joe
Excellent presentation! Truly seminal in educational documentaries. A lot of hard work has obviously gone into all of their instructional video lectures and all are truly outstanding, with super graphics, while remaining easy to follow and comprehend. They are so good in fact that the rather clipped and poor English and syntax, together with an outdated computer voice-over are overlooked and completely forgiven. I only mention the last so that the producers can take onboard those small suggestions and make their future “video lessons” excel even more. Edit: I subscribed because all are so good.
Some clarification about 2-stroke engine thermal efficiency: 2-stroke engines are NOT necessarily less efficient than 4 stroke engines. Big 2-stroke ship engines are one of the MOST efficient ICE engines with thermal efficiency over 50%. Also, diesel 2-strokes does not have fuel losses due to scavenging. Diesel 2-strokes and crankcase compression gasoline 2-strokes are totally different engines.
The biggest difference is between the two stroke gasoline and two stroke diesel. In a two stroke gasoline engine with crankcase compression, the air is pulled through the crankcase. If the crankcase had a wet sump like 4 stroke engines, then the air would pick up the engine oil and it would run out of oil way too quickly and also mess with the air fuel ratio. This is why oil is mixed into the gasoline. The oil in the gas is necessary to lubricate the crankshaft due to the lack of the wet sump. In a two stroke diesel, crankcase compression is not viable because only air can pulled into the engine. With a wet sump, any oil picked up in the air would cause preignition, which can destroy the engine. And because the fuel is injected later, premix with a dry sump can't be used either. This is why 2 stroke diesel engines need to have forced induction, either a supercharger or a turbocharger or both. They can't use the crankcase compression to force the fresh air into the cylinder. And because they don't use crankcase compression, they will have a wet sump and a dipstick like a 4 stroke engine.
There's plenty 70s to 90s motorcycles with 2 stroke gasoline engine. They all wild on the road. Their 2 stroke 150cc can make 500cc 4stroke want to sell their bike
2 stroke gasoline engines are already made in 19th century only it used in RX100 bikes it is banned in India because this bike is more powerful in old times. These bikes are used by the chain snachers police can't chase them because of speed of bike and it is banned because more air pollution by this bike engine
Just about every chainsaw has a gas 2 stroke engine. Most dirt bikes from the 1960s to the 1990s were 2 stroke gas engines. They were phased out because of the pollution. They tend to smoke more than 4 stroke engines. But I have owned a few 2 stroke dirt bikes and they have INSTANT THROTTLE RESPONSE! They were a real Blast to ride!
This video reminded me of my Dad's 2 stroke Suzuki Samurai motorcycle in India. It was a beauty 😍 both in terms of looks and performance. I didn't know the value of it then, I miss it now 😞.
Great job ! One comment: there is NO "explosion", and piston must NOT see an "explosion", but a combustion gas burning front flame, hopefully. Otherwise, piston would quickly get destroyed :-)
Its a nice vid i just miss the part where is shown how the piston is getting its lubrication from in a 2 stroke.. i know that a four stroke has seperate channels running in the block
The heat generated at the top of the head during the combustion is wasted in these type of engines. However, in opposing piston engine, the heat generated is used to push the opposite piston creating double the power.
Higher fuel consumption is definitely a disadvantage for gasoline 2-strokes. But I don't think it is a disadvantage in 2-stroke diesel... you know, injects fuel when everything is sealed... Regardless of all those advantages and disadvantages, 2-strokes sound nice, especially diesel ones.
@@herobrinecyberdemon8104 well that's not what he was talking about. I haven't either, the point is, two-stroke gasoline engines will use more fuel regardless, and you have to spend money on oil too
The heat has to come from somewhere, initially. "In a diesel engine, a glow plug is a heating device used to aid starting of the engine in cold weather." Many diesel engines are known to be difficult to start in cold weather. Some glow plugs are manually operated during startup, or are cycled on during a cold start, and they shut off once the engine is running/up to temperature. On the other end of things, read about/watch diesel engine runaways.
Ec engines coal railway engine etc, ic engines two types one is low compression engine, second one is High compression engine. All patrol gas engines low compression engines, diesel engines high compression engines.
When you were comparing the advantages of a 4 stroke engine and a 3 stroke engine, you compare a gasoline 2 stroke engine to a 4 stroke engine. Why not compare a diesel 2 stroke engine to a 4 stroke diesel engine. I wish that there are 2 stroke gasoline engine using fuel injectors. This will be better than carburetor 2 stroke gasoline engine.
Folks. You can make your pre existing alloy engine run for free simply place magnetic caps on top of each piston and replace the valve head with either a magnetic head or electromagnetic head NEVER PAY FOR FUEL OR ELECTRICITY AGAIN
I've never heard a normal combustion engine called a IC engine - the way it's stated hurts my ears. It's typically called a Internal Combustion Engine... That's it, nothing more than that term.
2stroke diesel should have more advantages than gasoline 2 stroke because is no fuel waste in exhaust, difference between 2/4 stroke diesel should be minimal(disadvantages)
Hey first say what is engine. Engine means change chemical energy to mechanical energy, same as change any motions to rotary motion that is call engine.
Not even my teacher was this clear. Thanks for that
I'm so grateful for this video. I'm a Kenyan, going to sit for my exams this November and this is of great help🙏

After so many years, your videos let me finally understand how the 2-stroke engine works
Next week I have an exam of IC petrol and diesel engines. And this video save me, thanks
You just cleared all about engine mechanics
I love things like this, spreading knowledge 😎
I never knew how a 2stroke diesel worked...... now I do thx for the good video

Such a good video on 4-stroke & 2-stroke engines ❤️

Lmao extreme example

I have always wondered why nobody has made a 2 stroke gasoline engine like the 2 stroke diesel engine. Would it work better?
gasoline go boom easier and nastier
There's plenty 70s to 90s motorcycles with 2 stroke gasoline engine. They all wild on the road. Their 2 stroke 150cc can make 500cc 4stroke want to sell their bike
It needs more lubrication compared to diesel so the wear would be phenomenally high, also 2 stroke diesel engine wear out faster than 4 stroke engines
2 stroke gasoline engines are already made in 19th century only it used in RX100 bikes it is banned in India because this bike is more powerful in old times. These bikes are used by the chain snachers police can't chase them because of speed of bike and it is banned because more air pollution by this bike engine

Porsche has now made 6 stroke engine it goes intake- compresion- power- intake- power- exhaust
Stroke means piston TDC top dead centre, to BDC bottom dead centre gap run only called stroke .
The music is distracting but thanks for the video
what pushes the piston down in the initial stroke if theirs no ignition or combustion at the beginning>
The starter
so whats the use of a glow plug in the diesel engine if the fuel self ignites with the use of the heated pressurized air.

is rail way train is comes under automobile if no then where it belongs to ???
Now all go for electric where got people bother how many stroke 😅

U should've started with 2 stroke then 4 stroke engine just for simplicity
Max only see patrol gas engines is 2stroke engine's. Nowadays 4stroke engines modified.
More commonly know as a "wrist pin", rarely known as a piston pin, never heard it called a "gudgeon pin". Might be in Europe but not in the Americas
