  • Part 1 of assembling the freshly cleaned and painted GL650 engine for the CX500 chassis. In this video I get the crankshaft installed, install new piston rings, and install the pistons and connecting rods into the block.
    These engines are not supported with many new parts so finding components may be difficult. My sources for information and parts are linked bleow.

    Love all your work! - thank you for sharing! - wonder if by chance you’d know a different place to get the 650 piston rings

      There is a Canadian seller on ebay who has them. If you simply search "gl650 piston rings" they will come up

    What were the piston ring end gaps supposed to be? Truly appreciate these videos, this will make my current build much less of a struggle.🙌

      That I don't recall off the top of my head. You can find the service manuals digitally on the cxforum or cx Facebook pages. Sorry I can't help more

    Where did you get the conrod bearings for this guy? Those 650 conrod bearings are unobtainium!

    Great informative tutorial. I used it to build my CX engine. I noticed you used washers on your socket head bolts. Do you find it doesn't chip the paint if you do that?

    • @BrickHouseBuilds
      @BrickHouseBuilds  Рік тому

      Oh man chipping paint is a never ending battle. I always prefer washers and yes thats partly why

    Where are you getting your rod berings I've looked all over. Also the piston rings?

    • @BrickHouseBuilds
      @BrickHouseBuilds  Рік тому

      I had to reuse the rod bearings. The rings I should have linked

    Where did you say you got the piston rings? You said a guy off eBay in Canada? Do you have a link to his store?

    Sorry if I missed it, but what assembly lube do you use?

    • @BrickHouseBuilds
      @BrickHouseBuilds  3 роки тому +1

      No worries. I just use a basic high moly content engine assembly lube from any auto parts store

    How many miles would that engine have done befor the rebuild ?

    • @BrickHouseBuilds
      @BrickHouseBuilds  Рік тому

      I do not known the mileage it had before I got it which is why I tore it down. Being a customer bike I needed to be able to give him piece of mind and a clean starting point

      Which parts specifically? I linked where I get the bulk of my parts in the description. Beyond that it is simple exhaustive searching.

      I'm sure if I used less there would be the same comment saying it was not enough. Engine is fine and not my first engine rebuild.
