I have had good luck using a cork on the rod as a safety and large cork in the cap hole hot glued to keep it secure. This method works awesome and will literally de-plate all the rust from inside the tank better than anything else I have found.
Make sure you let the clear coat cure really well before adding any gas to tank, breathing hole on flash mounting ones are very basic and the evaporations can eat your clear! I went through this and lost a tank, now I’m in a process of making a fiberglass one!!!
Nice. I haven't tried electrolysis yet. Having access to media blasters has me spoiled lol. I can definitely see the benefit of it in situations like this tho. Looking forward to part 2.
I added a flush mount cap to my tank. It cost me over $200 to have it done. Now the liner has failed so I’m going to do it all over again. I think my welder will cut me a break on the cost. He ha a hard time welding it because the metal is so thin it warped when he put heat to it. I’m looking forward to part 2.
This tank had been dry for years before I even started the build so there was no threat. You could simply flush multiple times with water and air dry though

Cleaned up really good. Anxious to see your flush mount cap.
Yea I'm not sure why it was lined in the first place. Only caused more issues
I agree I did not see any severe rust damage to cause a leak.

Yes looking forward to the flush cap. I wanted to do this on my last CX build but lack of welder and lack of talent prevented that. :)
Oh I ended up messing this one up bad. You will see in part 2 for sure
The electrolysis is easy and you get great results from it no matter what the part.
I've obviously used that sodium carbonate a few times! I like how low risk the electrolysis is compared to even just spraying some brake clean.
Cool trick
A good way to remove rust.

Your reply sounds like my part 2 lol. It warped so bad I had to start over
Sorry if I missed it, but what do you do to eliminate all the fuel to safety cut and weld on the tank? Thanks.

Why save the cutting until after? Does it matter or just personal preference?
Until after the electrolysis? If that I chose to as the hole is minimized and easier to contain the liquid and place the waste rod
