Great Review Elmo! I play mostly Blues/Rock and Love the SD-1 and the last pedal with built in Noise Gate. I love P-90s and the Gate would be one less Pedal on my Board. Please keep up the Good Work and Cheers from Salem, Ohio USA.
The Revv G2 is one to consider. I got it on a trade and didn't really give it too much attention but when I did I discovered that this was my new favorite overdrive very quickly. It covers a lot of territory and sound amazing. The Timmy is my second go to overdrive as well as a Klone but I always found something really special about the Timmy.
The only pedal I think you may have missed is the Tumnus deluxe by Wampler. The Tumnus mini is good, the deluxe is another level though. It adds a very potent eq with a ton of range to it, and a high gain option that makes it super versatile. It stacks exceptionally well with other pedals to- and has a ton of headroom if you want to use it as a boost. The eq comes in handy for that option as well- lets you dial out the low end flubbiness. I really like it, it's a Klon clone, but it's the most versatile, best sounding Klon clone I've ever played. I'm really interested in the JHS OD Preamp you showed- the DOD 250 tribute. It looks interesting and it's highly collectible so you know it will hold its value and resell easily if that becomes necessary. That said- I hate to sacrifice that much board space for something I doubt I'll use as much as I use the Tumnus already. Besides, I've got too many ODs- I need a few distortion pedals.
Good to hear I'm not the only one who pronounces Timmy! like that. My favourites so far are Diva Drive and Sunset. Some Timmy! and Riot clones would be interesting to try one day. And one day I'm going to make a fuzz.
Oh my gosh! the SL-OD sounds JUST LIKE those ubiquitous Steve Lukather tones! I'm actually pretty amazed. It seems like anyone whose heard TOTO enough should be able to spot those. I'm quite surprised by this. You could even kind of play a game and match the tonal variations with the songs he may have played them on. The thing is I've always loved those and I might actually have to get it.
Any pedals that you missed? There are thousands of pedals. You can't help but miss some. Some are very limited production done in someone's garage or shed out back and they only made three because that's all the coffee cans they had. Some are like the Tube Screamer and have spawned a dozen copies which sound the same. Thanks for showing these overdrive pedals.
Great video! I have the ODR1, Riverside, and Sunset snd like you, I absolutely love the Riverside. The Sunset is definitely more versatile but the Riverside is the keeper of the two. The ODR1 is also excellent and I stack it ahead of both the Strymons as well as two other drives (Friedman Smallbox and Nordland ODT-C). I know I know, I might have too many drives on my board but I just love them all so much!
Loved the video though as much as I love the Strymon, I fell in love with the Blackstar Dept 10 Dual Drive. I have a Fulltone 3 but the Blackstar shreds it. So many great tones, cab sim with super user friendly software. I'd love to see what you make of it.
@MrPolevaulter can't recommend it enough. The tones are amazing and having the three band EQ really lots you dial in a lot of different tones. Then you add in the ISF dial and it really opens up.
Great overdrive selection and excellent performance Elmo! I also have and I really love the Riverside. What do you think about People complaining that it sounds digital or sterile or doesn’t have the punch of an analog overdrive? In my own experience I can say the Riverside has his own character and personality sound and it different from others. I have more than 100 overdrives and the Strymon Riverside sounds phenomenal and I will never compare it to analog drives because to me that’s not the point knowing the pedal has hybrid technology and digital components. To each his own.
Great video Elmo! Love the Riverside! Amazing overdrive pedal! Question : How do you set up the presence switch in the back? Less, neutral or more? Thanks.
fwiw, here’s my rig: JHS Clover pre-amp/boost/tone shaper (excellent!) Wampler Belle (Nobels ODR clone, excellent!) Wampler Plexi Drive (very good) EHX East River Drive (tube-screamer clone, pretty good) TC Zeus (klon clone, pretty good) This gives me a lot of versatility without spending a ton of money. Of the above, the JHS Clover and Wampler Belle are my favorites… really great pedals!
What are the best modeling amps in the world? I have a Fender Mustang GTX 100 and I'm pretty satisfied with it, but I feel like there's something lacking in the tone. What could be better? Or should I get a small tube amp that I can crank up?
Modeling Amps are good to discover which tones you as a player enjoy. But, while they're cool they don't exactly do any one thing exceptional. My advice (as an older player) would be to focus on your playing more than the tones. Yeah, the tones make practice more enjoyable sometimes, but nothing replaces theroy and endless practice. Jam on man, and good luck.
I do love your playing your technically amazing incredibly fast , but sometimes i wish when your demo pedals you would just do chords and shorter and slower lead lines like hold a note . it helps top really hear the pedal.
Hi Elmo, just wondering, what do you think of synergy amps (have you tried them ?), nobody has done a straight A/B comparison with an actual plexi (a jcm800 and Mesa IICP have been done but no plexi 😅).
Hey Elmo, have you ever tried any of the Flamma stuff? They're another Mosky / Ammoon / Donner type of brand of budget priced guitar effects. They have a yellow, mini drive pedal that's sounds surprisingly good and it's only £22 on Thomann. I've watched a couple of demo / reviews and was very impressed with what I heard. Just thought I'd give you the heads up mate. Carlo 🎸👍🏼
Tried Joe Gore's Cult Overdrive? Very clear and bright, but angry and nasty when you tun up the volume. Brilliant to combine with others . When stacking overdrives it'd be good to mix two that are very different?
The best Pedals you will get from Steel Panther...Pussy Melter, Butthole Burner and 1987 are the best Distortions you will get! Other pedals are Boutique toys..😂
What? You omitted the Boss Metal pedal from the late 80's? Combine the Boss with a $25 Gorilla 10w Amp and you get a sound that only stoned surfers enjoy.
My ears tell me the BOSS SD-1 sounds as good, if not better than the Strymon Riverside Multistage Drive. If you didn't know any better, and I told you the SD-1 (if you can find one, maybe at Fort Knox) will cost you at least $500, what would your psyche tell you then? Ha? ;)
Want some budget guitar pedals? You can find some here: ua-cam.com/play/PLNaLwTdlpQNEWI6wA6DmOwlL6xucK7_n3.html
SD-1! Yes! I'm still impressed how dynamic the knobs are on that thing. It's worth so much more than you will pay for it.
I have 1 also. Great pedal.
Great choices - I'm glad to see few non-standard, interesting OD's.
Glad you like them!
I bought a Riverside 'cos a vídeo you did and it is the best drive I ever had. Thanks Elmo!
Any video that mentions Steve Lukather automatically gets an up vote. Great playing and review. Thank you!

Such a shredding beast bro, you're better than most players online and very inspiring. Thanks Elmo
Oh, and your tone is just brilliant 😉
Thank you very much :)
Boss od3 , wampler pantheon and revv g3 - yes it does od too - need to be checked they are my favs

I've only tried the Tumnus mini of the Tumnuses...Tumni...Tumnusses...
@@MrPolevaulter Tumni would be my guess 🤣.

13:54 Strymon Riverside leads
Thanks for the review Elmo!!
Any time!

Some day I'm gonna have to try the Riverside. My favourite is the T REX Mudhoney. From a touch of overdrive to heavy distortion.
Elmo you sound like the love child of Yngwie and Gary Moore. Bluesy and Shred together. Great vid, makes me want a Stryman even more!
Cheers :)
I have the , tone concepts lukather distillery, I’ll have to get this one , thanks for the video 👍
I always go back to Lovepedal OD Eleven it's so smooth
Still rockin my joyo vintage OD. Thanx for the vids Elmo. Rock on you crazy Bass turd
well.... you have found really a awesome tone ,it screams ! congratulations ! 😎👏👏👏
Thanks :)

Thought of trying it, but never got around to it.

I made copy of Naga Viper TB myself, i think thats best think i have ever made!!! It is very very close to the rangemaster from dallas from 60s
Great overdrive selection and excellent performance Elmo!

I like the Stymon as compared here. My lightly used Nobels ODR 1 just died so this comparison comes at a good time.
Great video Elmo! Love the Riverside! Amazing overdrive pedal! Question : How do you set up the presence switch in the back? Less, neutral or more? Thanks.
I didn't even remember it had one :D
@@MrPolevaulter Yes, it’s in the back of the pedal. ☺️ Thanks Elmo for reply! 🙏🏻
never noticed that you named another strat , rising horse 😁 very cool pedals indeed
Cheers!
fwiw, here’s my rig:
JHS Clover pre-amp/boost/tone shaper (excellent!)

Id love a mini boss ds1

All modelling amps lack something, even high ends ones.
For me personally sd-1, bd-2 and a fuzz face is all I need.
Cool bananas 👍
Yes, I thought the blues driver was going to make an appearance.
I do love your playing your technically amazing incredibly fast , but sometimes i wish when your demo pedals you would just do chords and shorter and slower lead lines like hold a note . it helps top really hear the pedal.
There are so many overdrive pedals, I wouldn't know where to start? But one of the new ones is the MXR duke of tone.
True.
Boss blues driver!!!!
Hi Elmo, just wondering, what do you think of synergy amps (have you tried them ?), nobody has done a straight A/B comparison with an actual plexi (a jcm800 and Mesa IICP have been done but no plexi 😅).
Never tried one. Those do seem interesting.
Pedals...Elmo you got my attention 😀
😀
Boss OD3?
You are the best ...
Thanks!

I have a few of them waiting to be reviewed.
@@MrPolevaulter Cool mate. Looking forward to it. I was hoping that you would. All the best brother. Carlo 👍🏼🎸
Interesting that there are no EHX pedals noted
Rodenberg hands down!
It sure is good 😊
Yes in that order too. Hahah. That Strymon. Both really but I one of each. Hahah
:D

Haven't tried it.
What pickups on your 'Strat' guitar?
Seymour Duncan Little 59, some single coil in the middle (I forget which), and a DiMarzio HS-3 in the bridge.
@@MrPolevaulter thanks
I must have that yngwie malmsteen pedal. Btw elmo what string gauge you use?
9-46
I picked up that Fender Hammerhead pedal you reviewed last week, not bad for the price
👏👏👏
Marshall JTM45 or Fender Tweed cranked NO pedals……… just play🙃
TS 9
😪💤💤
Personally, while I like it, I don't think it's up there.
Any missed? Yes, J Rockett Blue Note
Haven't tried that one.

Derailing this thread… @elmo please cover Marshall YJM100H 🙏
They're not readily available.
And they seem to cost a truckload of money.
What?

Friedman BE-OD
Yeah, that's good, but not up there for me.
@@MrPolevaulter Cool, it’s 80s metal in a box and most usable by pulling down the trim pot on the inside. Nice video, thank you!

And none of them make me want to put my Electro Harmonix hot wax duel overdrive away
Is this about pedals or about your guitar technical.??? ,your fingers are fast,,but taste rubbish, with no enjoyable feelings.
Riverside sounds digital compared to the others
