- Will Acura and Honda enter WEC and Le Mans? The ARX-06 LMDh is the only prototype to not be racing in the WEC and Le Mans and in this video i dive into WHY that is the case, and how it could make an appearance in in the world championship! This video essentially details everything regarding Acura and Honda potentially coming to WEC and Le Mans.

PLS Let Acura join wec, maybe as Honda because it is more internationally know
Yeah!
Can't believe HRC japan still undecide it
Man I'd kill for a Deletraz, Albuquerque and Jordan or Ricky Taylor lineup for a WEC campaign with the ARX-06!
YEEEEEES
Facts! 🔥
LeMans is enough.
I'd rather them stick with IMSA but it would be cool for them to run at Le Mans.
nah, they belong to IMSA
fits them way better
Man we need this car in WEC, Albuquerque needs to get an oportunity in the top class
Would definitely be Honda badges, when f1 came to us tracks Redbull removed the Honda and replaced it with Acura
Acura should really look at the other manufacturers to influence their decision to run in WEC, especially Porsche; they have a total of 10 cars across between IMSA and WEC, and their 963s are becoming absolute weapons considering they swept the podium at Qatar 1812. More data = more development = more success, plus I want to see the two Japanese giants slug it out on the track
Honda just needs an lmp2 team to run their cars in WEC 🙏
Which team could that be? Dragonspeed? Inter Europol? Algarve Pro?
@@JOHANNESwhoelse Dragonspeed is a small team, in my opinion, too small for a factory Hypercar effort. APR is unlikely to be interested in something that is not LMP2. Inter Europol, however, is a really good option and makes much more sense.
Or andretti
@@josesammut9396 Yes, of course, it would be obvious.
How it could be Honda if LMP2 is standard Oreca 07 and Gibson engine?
The Acura is apparently the best car right now in iRacing for the GTP category.
Hmmmm
Ok nice information, and now?😂
If Honda Arx 06 joins the WEC 11 manufacturers in 2025
Which is great unless WEC brings in the 2 factory car per manufacturer rule it takes away all customer teams from Hypercar. Unless WEC move to a 41 or 42 car grid (42 being the maximum if the current Le Mans entries stay the same and G56 cars tale away an LMP2 spot), which would leave 1 or 2 customers which would still be atleast half the current customer cars gone from WEC.
@@maxb4085 Porsche 963 customer need to move to imsa or quit
@Bncxx1275 Why do you say that? Jota as a customer team got 2nd in Qatar why should thry not be able to race in WEC?
@@maxb4085 first of all
It was long time ago ACO and FIA says "of course we don't want 10 Porsche, that's bad for competition"
And second i'm just assuming let's say if there's new brand incoming, they need to figue it out make sure new comer join while grid are limited leave 3 penske alone or 3 Ferrari af corse
And then they say again "they want hypercar first over lmgt3"
It means Ford and McLaren need to leave since they the only who don't have le mans hypercar
@@maxb4085 let's get real
They want big OEM brand ever since they introduce hypercar class
The reason why customer still allow
Because Aston Martin and honda and McLaren and ford and Bentley and jaguar and lotus and hyundai and Nissan and Mazda and audi and Mercedes
Are not there.
I think Honda needs to put ARX 06 in the WEC. I believe the should do that with a team that knows the WEC and tracks. The reason for that is so they can have two cars in both the WEC and IMSA. I believe that is what is hurting Cadillac right now in WEC is only one car.
The NSX did win it's class and so did HPD in LMP2. And I've said it before but the ARX 06 won every major endurance race in the States. I'd say it's LeMans ready, it's definitely one of the fastest LMDH cars without BOP.
I agree!
"Without BoP" is a silly thing to say. It's a BoP category. All cars make more power than necessary, and are limited for fairness. Pit strategy, driving talent, luck and fuel management are what win races. Not whose car makes the most power before homologation.
ARX 06 only won daytona and sebring. It has not won the other two main staples of the NAEC, one of which was important enough to be an auto-invite in france.
We'll see if that changes, because they probably would have if Pipo didn't go full Pipo in turn 1 like he does almost every year at Road Atlanta.
@@asymsolutions you forgot about Petite? 🤔
@@ragereset2795 I'm sorry but that Daytona BOP was rough to watch. They were a sitting duck that race and still managed to grab P3.
They cannot waste this opportunity literally given to them from the heavens 🕊. They have the car, they are eligble for the series, they can compete globally, and Andretti could possibly run the team because he wants said it himself that he wants to take his drivers to Le Mans. Sure, you can argue that it doesn't make sense for Andretti to run the Acura/Honda ARX-06 program when CGR is leaving Cadillac wide open for customers to run entries, but at the same time, Andretti already runs two cars in IMSA with the help of Wayne Taylor. Maybe Andretti Autosport could run the team in the WEC, or you could let me know if I'm just being dumb lol. Either way, we can all agree that the ARX-06 has to go to Europe at some point
It was F1 new power unit with Aston Martin
Who made Honda top priorites
@Bncxx1275 Yeah. Just hoping that doesn't get in the way of a potential WEC program
5:05 thats was the 1994 result. The next year in 1995 the one car run by kunimitsu finished 8th overall (the best position overall for the NSX on the 3 years it ran) but they did win the GT2 class.
Thank you for correcting!
I was a big fan of the idea of allowing DPi cars to run in LMP1… so, YES - come on over, Honda!
Hondas still apart of F1. Especially with the branding going back to Honda in the past couple of years as HRC and Honda this year. They still own the IP of the RBPT power unit I believe as it wasn’t handed over when a new deal was made after Honda decided to officially “return”. So it isn’t as much of a hurdle to have Honda join WEC as a lot of people think it is.
They shouldn't waste this opportinity to run in a worldwide series, for sure. Come on, Honda, it's nice to refuel the Formula 1 project but sports car racing is a big boom nowadays!
One thing that might change things is Ganassi's separation from Cadillac. Lord knows they are more than capable of fielding international teams and they are running Honda's in Indy. If Wayne Taylor is not looking to venture out of IMSA, might be a good choice for Honda to replace Meyer Shank with.
they need to be there.
the sooner the better
My dream is Honda comes to WEC and Audi and Mazda return to prototype racing
That would be a dream come true for me too!
Don't forget Bentley, Mercedes
And jaguar if tata would allow it
What will Ganassi do next year in the WEC?
Aston Martin???
@@drivingduck2234 aston are running with heart of racing next year
There's also rumors of Honda joining NASCAR as well.
Not rumors
Nascar often ask them and also hyundai
That's like asking Acura to make their engine platforms longitudinal like all other competitors
I really hope a wec programm will materialize but i sadly think it won't
We need Acura/Honda for at least Le Mans..
I heard Albuquerque is lobbying for this to happen :D
Would be rly cool
Would love to see Takuma Sato as a Platinum driver from one of the cars
With Andretti Global opening their Silverstone base of operations. And Michael saying they want to join WEC this could be the in for HRC joining the series.
there are things i dont quite get in the world of motorsport...
SO andretti parteners with Honda in Le mans prototypes and indycar, with porsche in formula e and with GM in formula 1
Meanwhile Penske runs with Porsche in le mans prototypes, with Stelantis in Formula-e and with gm in indycar...
And THEN you have chip ganasi runing the GM in protoypes but runs honda in indycar!
Which manufacturer do you want to join the hypercar or gtp class in wec and IMSA that are not in those classes already
For me it will be Alfa Romeo
Alfa Romeo is a great answer! I definitely want Audi to join but it likely won’t happen. The most realistic option for me would be McLaren joining or Alfa Romeo
@@FormulaJonah interesting answers and great answers
Thank you for the response @formulajonah
@sappymy No problem! Thank you for asking the question!
@@FormulaJonah your welcome
👍
It's never going to happen, but I would love to see Koenigsegg make an LMH based on the Jesko. That car would be very cool.
So,I heard le mans won't be 24 hour race but two 12 hour races, any info on that?
that was an april fools jokes
Le Mans will definitely be 24 hours long in 2024 😉
@@FormulaJonah thank god
I am the biggest Honda fan, so PLEASE HONDA! Join the WEC!!!
I’d love to see them as Honda.
The problem is how do you make room for Acura in Hypercar.
The grid is already quite full and Aston Martin will join next year.
Also, we have to consider that Isotta Fraschini, Lamborghini and Toyota want to add more cars
ACO promise there's always a grid for hypercar
Ever since they top priorities
So
1) boutique brand like isotta of they still not competitive on 1 years, they have to leave like Vanwall and glick do
2) mustang gt3 need to leave because ford commited not to build hypercar prototype or put new gen for gt to the class, their future is going to electric
3)all Porsche 963 customer need to leave or move to imsa, having 3 penske is enough
How about McLaren? Well they promise to build lmdh too but for WEC only because they already have indycar in us
Now they wanna race with the big bois
Really doubt that. They don't sell cars outside of US.
And also, there is no more space for them. ACO is working on new reg that would make mandatory for manufacturer entries to come with 2 cars.
Cadillac and Lambo already said they are planning on adding extra entry next year, Isotta too but remain to be seen. Aston is a bit in a pickle there but i think they will.
bmw peugeot ferrari toyota lambo porsche cadillac isotta aston alpine -> 20 cars + 4 customers entries (if not extra are allowed), and 18 GT3 entries => 42 cars. It's already too much actually. Even if Isotta is dropped it would still reach the limit.
So unless ACO decide to cut customers entries (they probably won't) or GT3 (they definitly won't) or a manufacturer decide to cut off program (probably won't, cost is decent enough and WEC's gain in popularity huge enough to keep the teams running).
By the convergence hpd HRC
Salters says they gonna sells acura brand too outside US
Plus they will ditch McLaren and Ford and Porsche 963 customer
They already said they don't want 10 Porsche's
They want big brand FIRST
Participating in WEC of ARX-06 is MUST!!! They built magnificent car and could kill it's full potential by just staying in America. Taylor brothers, Louis and Felipe could show us what great racing is ❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
Beside they don't need 2 cars to run WEC
At le mans they could send 3
WECs new rule in 2025 about manufacturers having enter at least 2 cars will make an ARX06 entry a lot more difficult unfortunately.
Sadly I don't see Honda joining WEC and this is why: their re-entry into F1 a few years back was a disaster. The engine just wasn't competitive and it took years to get it developed to the point it stopped being a laughing stock. If indeed Honda plans to supply engines to F1 in a couple of years I suspect they won't make the same mistake and will devote all of their efforts to not repeat the same mistake. F1 has many more fans and this helps sell far more cars. Hope to be wrong but I wouldn't be betting that lovely Acura doing the 24h of LM
Their CEO not says no to le mans
But they still out of employee and money management to put what best
They promise if new engine is competitive enough
Then start to join le mans
Yes, they just dont want to
me trying to understand endurance racing: le mans is a 24h race which is part of the wec championship.
this video: could acura enter wec and le mans?
this wec/endurance thing gets more confusing each time I try to understand it 😥😥
For this video I chose to say WEC & Le Mans because theoretically it is possible to race at Le Mans and not do the full season of the WEC. I can understand why endurance racing can be confusing, it’s a lot of information! That is one of the reasons why I try to explain the information as simple and straightforward as possible because it can be complicated sometimes.😉
@@FormulaJonah oh ok, is it because of the prestige Le Mans 24h holds? Like, it's every one's dream to win it, even if they don't do a full WEC season? And yeah, it's a lot of information, but I'm kinda binge watching your videos, I'm starting to understand a few things here and there😂. I'm starting with the hypercars because I think it's easier to get the grasp on it comparing to the GT cars which race in A LOT of series and it really makes me so so confused.
@syntheovaldy5173 That correct! The 24 Hours of Le Mans is the big race, the one every car manufacturer wants to win. It’s the most important race, not just because of the event itself, but what it could do for the car brand. If you win Le Mans, you are automatically put into the history books.
If you’re interested in knowing more about endurance racing, I highly recommend checking out this playlist ua-cam.com/play/PLRg_Pvcne9meokDQaF2QZEtCS7ls-WlwR.html&si=C7Xzb4SpNhwlcY1y this includes videos that explain the cars / categories in WEC & IMSA. I’ll also be putting out a lot more videos explaining things as time goes by!
Happy to hear you’re binging my videos and enjoying them!
@@FormulaJonah I will watch it, thank you!
Another thing, where would I start if I wanted to get in touch with WEC history? Like, I wanna know the legends, I wanna know who are the Sennas, Schumachers, Hamiltons, of this sport, you know? I basically got into WEC because of a Kevin Estre nurburgring 24h videos, so he's the only I know and I've become a fan of him, but I wanna know the rest, the previous champions, the promising young guns etc. I'm a F1 fan since 2008/09, so I know a lot of it, I'm trynna know WEC/Endurance like that too
Right now the #40 car is tied in points after the two biggest points gaining races in the season.
If WTR/Acura wins the championship, get an autoinvite to Le Mans 2025, and then Honda says no. Then the heads at honda need to be fired. They would have a HUGE marketing opportunity for the FRACTION of the price of a WEC entry.
They should use Honda brand whit one car at Wec and thas it
Aston Martin Valkyrie WEC powered by Honda maybe ??
They'll probably still partner with Cosworth for the engine.
It needs to join...this would be a massive rivalry with toyota....
YES ,, YES ,, YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They race NSXes as Honda in WEC.
They don’t
As of right now, the Honda / Acura NSX only races in IMSA. There is one entry from Gradient Racing in the GTD class.
@@FormulaJonah I didn't know they stopped but not so long ago they did.
Yeah, unfortunately we haven’t seen it at Le Mans for quite some time, hope it comes back through in the LMGT3 category one day!
@@FormulaJonah - the NSX GT3 also races in Japan's Super GT series in the GT300 category.
I think if they join wec the car would need to change it's name
Imho to run in Le Mans the car defo would change the name to Honda HRX-06
Yeah they would definitely have the car badged as Honda
Vipers ran as Dodge/Chrysler so it certainly can be done.
Heck as long as ZakSpeed don't run the team there probably wont be rule shenanigans.
Is Vettel actually racing in LeMans or was he just jerking Penske around?
We don’t know yet! But that session he did in Spain was just testing in the Porsche 963 for Porsche Penske’s Le Mans preparation
If Honda/Acura joins WEC, it will also mean they could let WEC to race at SUZUKA!!
Basically to a honda guy. From HPD to HRC
I always wonder if McLaren would join
That would be awesome if so!
If Tsunoda leaves F1 I can see him as one of the drivers
They should have went when they kicked everybody at daytona even though they snitched on MSR. Acura/ Honda need to get their heads together and just get on with it.
I mean if aston Martin itself could bring valkyrie join WEC alongside their focus F1
Why honda couldn't do it
American people do realize that the company is Honda and Acura is just a brand created for the US market, right? (same for Lexus and Infiniti for Toyota and Nissan...)
Yes, that’s why I explained at 2:57 in this video that Honda likely will not be using Acura badged cars in WEC (if they joined) since Acura doesn’t have a presence outside the US.
Car is perfect for Le Mans. It would fly down the straights of Le Mans.
Sounds like chickens clucking. IMSA coddles them, WEC will not.
Let Meyer Shank Racing team races in WEC
here in the german part of the world hondas are almost non present..u see a jazz but even type r's are getting rare...they won wc in f1..and did nothing with it...NOTHING!
it is incredible how bipolar honda got...but that wec didnt chose honda is still tough to swallow!
i hope HRC takes care of global motorsport business and succeeds with it..
waiting next gen for the south korean brands!
That's how honda has been forever. In and out of everything except TT and even then they've shown a bit of bipolar tendencies.
The only company that has shown them up in that recently is VAG with Audi, ducking out of the WEC entirely, murdering their successful GT3 program from inside, promising to join F1 but not really proving it, promising to make an LMDh and then canceling it, and then deciding they wanted to run their neglected R8 GT3 evos in the WEC; followed by them bitching when the ACO (rightfully) said "nah bruh, we can't trust you".
If you look at the current GT3LM line up, it's either A. Manufacturers that have been in the WEC continuously without leaving (E.G. Aston, Porsche, GM, Ferrari), B. Manufacturers paired with teams who the ACO has reason to believe will stay in without manufacturer support (E.G. United Autosport/McLaren, Proton/Ford), or C. Manufacturers with a current LMH/LMDh car in the series (Toyota, BMW, Lamboghini).
The ARX-06 could easily join the WEC if they got a new team for it or if Andretti bought out WTR entirely. But Honda seems much more interested in the chance of success with F1 and even NASCAR now. As opposed to series that they have a track record of success with IMSA and Indycar. Hell, they seem set on leaving Indycar for NASCAR which is a shame since they're just following the money despite NASCAR being a dying sport.
They already spent so much money developing their hybrid Indycar engine first used a season early in the ARX-06. I just don't get why they wouldn't want to take better advantage of it
Acura is only known in North America.. Everywhere else it's Honda. Granted they're trying to be posh like Lexus /Toyota, but most people are not fooled. If you're some stupid Californian then yes it might make a difference. Otherwise no. And yes I am trying to deliberately insult certain people.
Yeah they would definitely change the branding to Honda in WEC if they joined. As I explained in the video, it would not make sense for the car to be badged as Acura in WEC.
By the convergence HPD HRC
Salters says they also would bring acura brand outside US
you sound so bitter
