Mafia is not just a game, it's a film game, the story is simply incredible, the whole plot is set up like an Al Capone-style gangster film, with sulphate guns and company, the plot is gripping, it's so good that once finished you tend to start again in harder and harder fashion. You have to have a bike with a good graphics card on the definitive edition which has been visually very embellished, it's ultra immersive, all the DLCs are not necessarily very enriching for some, but it increases the lifespan, which is almost infinite, it's like Hotel California, you always end up relaunching Mafia.
RDR2 is on another level. It’s the only game that I’m constantly being amazed by and saying to myself, “this game is so f***ing good.” The level of detail is unparalleled.
RDR2 is simply the best game ever made so far. One is one of the gang. Back in the days. Those members were like family. The endless possibilities, the story!!!!! Played it at least three times. Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War missing here for me though.
Sometimes I think we need a game with little map, which offers a huge variety of enterable buildings rather than a massive map with nearly no enterable, interactable facilities. I really love the atmosphere of yakuza 0. The map is small, lively and condensed, full of details.
Kinda like the earlier assassin creeds like the Paris and London one, alright story line wasn't the best but the details on the map made it feel huge as so many buildings were open
None of the souls games by Fromsoftware have a world that feels alive, or even lived in. Besides a very low number of soldiers that patrol a (very small) area, all NPC's are stationary in Elden Ring. Some of them do move from one stationary spot to the next stationary spot, but that is it. There are also no villages, no cities, no shops, no inns, no houses, nothing that would create the illusion of a lived in world. The one open world game that absolute does do all of the above is The Witcher 3. But for some reason it is missing from this list.
I'm glad you gave one of the Yakuza games a shout out. These games are very underrated and once you get hooked on the story, you can't stop playing because the game play is so good as well. There aren't many Beat'm up games anymore and these games are some of my favourite now.
Based on the title “that feel most alive” you missed Sleeping Dogs. Hong Kong is packed with people of all different backgrounds and hustles. There are women trying to coax you into the massage parlors, drunks peeing in the alleys, and the market is alive with “hey! You like movies? Music? Games? You want it, I got it”
I'm astonished to see Yakuza on this list. Compared to other open-world games, its map feels quite restricted. You can traverse only a few streets between different city sections and hit the map boundaries very soon.
Fallout 4 was the best in this regard. I loved how refusing a quest (at least on one occassion) had consequences. The world wouldn't just wait for you.
why in gta 5 the feeling of life is reduced because in gta 5 we play 3 characters at once, and this makes the feeling of strength towards the player less, because it is understood, I'm afraid this will happen in gta 6, because there will be 2 characters at once
Sorry but Ghost of Tsushima is anything but alive. It's a very checklisty feeling open world game, just beautifully presented. But there's no dynamism to its world. Just a beautiful stage with elements that stay in place for the player to trigger. Also Watch Dogs 2 should be on here. Replaying it now and it's still a very dynamic and interactive world.
Mafia Definitieve Edition has no side missions dude, the game is as linear as hell. It's looks like a open world but is isn't. Did you even play that game?
That's what I was thinking too. It is a good game, but not an open world. The story progresses linearly. It is not possible to just roam around the city at your own leasure.
I'm a big fan of open world , but I prefer 3rd person view, if it's not, no matter how good the game is,then I'll pass.. My top games will always be Assasins creed,
Somehow alot of publishers make first person games 10x less immersive, like dying lights first person just seems like it has 0 immersion…open world games are better off third person for immersion the only games I’ve seen do this right is skyrim/bethesda games and cyberpunk…kingdom come deliverance too but that feels like more of a simulator than a game for me
@Gfckin9 the thing is, playing 3rd person open world makes me feel like I'm in it, I mean, it's me who's inside that game. I dunno bout the others, that is why I never played this call of duty and other similar games
Mafia is always in my heart, but to be honest... graphics and details of every car, building arevery impressive and breathtaking but the world is.. kinda empty while u playing freeride mode. Kinda shame for comapny doing this remake. They waste the potential of this game so much in my opinion. Story mode is awesome - no wonder cuz its remake, but they should create free ride more interesting. Also they should think about mulitplayer - just like gta 5, gangster vibe from 1930'.
GTA San Andreas was way more alive than the GTA 5 world. So many random events like the police chasing civilians, the cops engaging in shootings with gang members etc. Recently I just loaded by game and after 2 seconds a plane crashed causing another car to explode. Or in another instance two ambulances were on top of another one respectively. The GTA 5 world is quite stale in comparison.
AI written, AI spoken. At least one non-open-world game. Absolute, repetetive drivel. (Although I agree that RDR2 is sublime - I can't wait for Red Dead Redemption the Third )

Best game EVER is highly subjective, but it is no doubt a legendary game. There are many other all-time greats in other genres.
@@medmuscle Absolutely. I can name a lot others. Just wanted to outline how much I appreciate this piece of art.
@@JoshuavanOrten I would agree that it is probably the best open world single player campaign of all time. 👍
God of War is an incredible game - but it does not qualifies as an open world game. But I would welcome an God of War open world game any time :)
