I'm a 25 year veteran truck driver. Retired now, and when I get that itch to drive again, I play ATS. It really does well at scratching that itch. There are a few small mods that make it better. It doesn't take much. The size of the map feels more like what a real driver might experience when staying within a state. I believe its at 1/20 scale. But if you drive as it is intended, you get a really good idea what its like. Always on your toes, always worried about missing your exit, getting lost or stuck, and figuring out how you gonna get back on track. Cramming those trailers in holes that seem impossible. They did a great job at capturing the feel of it. And they are always adding to and improving it. Really need to square off those intersection corners more though. Its way to easy to make those turns.
I'm curious - what do you think about ETS 2 compared to ATS? Other than ETS 2 being older so there are more mods and more DLC for the game etc. would you say one is a better experience for someone who wants to just lazily drive a vehicle in semi-realistic maps?
@@LordLOC I've got couple hundred hours between them. both games are near enough the same as they are based off of the same engine they just have different vehicles and trailers props and roads but they feel the same. they both feel quite arcade-ish. ats is more challenging because of the large vehicles (imagine an 18 wheeler making a sharp right hand turn) and reversing trailers is a whole nightmare. because of this I play ets2 more but yeah, they are both pretty much the dame
@@LordLOC I'll say also it gets very boring being on plain highways in the slow lane for 90% of your routes, the cities are small and you spend very little time in them and all of the highways/backroads look pretty much the same
It is so underrated man, I didn’t saw it in the comments section so I thought it will be mentioned in the video but was disappointed. Wreckfest is great on PS5, utilises all of controller’s features.
wreckfest absolutely is a banger. Its actually pretty solid as a simulator even tho its def more on the arcady side. Only shame is that they dialed the demolition models back a bit compared to their early tech demo
Wreckfest (the original) has another advantage - it can be played on mobile devices. The graphic might be down rated a bit though - to me sometime the wheels don't look to be attached to the chassis.

What I really loved with Dirt Rally 2.0 is how optimized it was for VR. I got a Quest 2, not a super high-end headset, and I didn't even have to fiddle with the graphics, I can still run it on pretty much max graphics even on a 3060
I agree. I tried a co-workers Oculus Rift with DR2.0 and it was great, so I searched and found a used Acer mixed reality VR for $50 Canadian. Works great and I like not having the external sensors.

(Since refreshing my.PC, I haven't even reinstalled the Acer VR yet....should get to that someday, along with reinstalling Assetto Corsa again!) But I haven't given the Automobilista series that much attention.
@@cadler5885 Asus 3060Ti V2 OC gets above 100 with traffic. multiplayer I would recommend a 4070 and a cpu with as many cores as possible. 1 car per core in BeamMP because its not integrated into the game but runs externally.
Nothing beats Driveclub. Never experienced a better sense of speed, graphics and weather effects in any racing game. It’s a shame the studio got closed down pretty soon after release and servers are down since a while. Best racing game ever made and I don’t understand why graphics like that were already possible 10 years ago while nowadays 2D trees, non-animated spectators, bland weather effects and zero sense of speed are still widely accepted by players. Propably because many haven’t experienced the god tier of Driveclub.
I can easily say Grid Legends is one of the best racing games outhere, really got me by surprised how satisfying all the races were, the sense of speed the rain effects really superb.
There are two other games that could be mentioned just for fun. Wreckfest and BeamNG. BeamNG is a soft body physics driving simulator. A successor to Rigs of Rods. Wreckfest is the latest driving game from Bugbear Entertainment, the creators of the Flatout series, minus Flatout 3. Flatout: Ultimate Carnage is a remaster of Flatout 2 btw with more vehicles and events.
Nice list, but if we're talking about graphics then Automobilista 2 should also be on the list since it's one of the best best looking racing sims imo.
Snowrunner and expedition are basically same game. Same engine, same coding/physics, same vehicles, same graphics. You should have picked only one like you did with ATS and ETS

how tf is Assetto Corsa not on this list?. it´s by FAR the most beatiful game out there with mods, and the physics are exceptional. There´s also assetto corsa competizione for anyone that only wants sim-racing. How tf is BeamNG not on this list? It´s a great game, sure, the graphics aren´t as good as modded Assetto Corsa or Forza Horizion, but it´s a grreat game. It´s basically Truck simulator, Taxi Life and Driving Simulator combined, with amazing crash phyisics, a ton of cars and tunes of cars to choose from, including a massive amount of mods. Besides that, It´s a great Video and I had alot of fun watching it. I don´t know if you wrote the Video yourself, or if the AI did the speaking AND the writing. But, if you DID write it yourself, you have alot of potential. Also, am I the only one that thinks the voice sounds like Scrubby?

As a long time gamer of very many different genres - i have to say.. Amazing graphics/and artstyle have the most impact in racing games. It's literally half the game besides the cars and the racing.

Assetto Corsa and Assetto Corsa Competizione are mandatory in every top 10 sim games. Le Mans Ultimate is already a must have game despite being in early access. The physics, the sounds, the good looking graphics, etc, are top work! Give this one a try if you haven't people 👍

It's a video game. How is anyone objectively going to measure the "realism" on a controller... It's all interpretation, with a bit of elitism if we are being honest. But it really means difficulty in practise.

I might be more of a beamng than an assetto corsa guy, but i think both of these games shouldve been on this list. Also, beamng rally is much harder than dirt 2.0
If you’re going in terms of graphics I would highly suggest Driveclub. Visually it’s stunning for a game as old as it is. However it doesn’t stop there. It has a huge campaign that you can spend days playing as still not be close to finishing it. The physics are great, the music is great, the cars are great. The only downside is that DLC and online is locked as the game is discontinued. However, because it’s discontinued, that also means it’s incredibly cheap to buy a physical copy. I bought mine for £2

It had a lot of real hypercars you can't find anywhere You could walk around the cars and admire the precision of its graphics. I bought mine 8€
yeah I was also thinking the same, with maxed out graphics and some tweaks, it looks amazing if you set the time to sunset. not a fan of how the guy talks about the apparent amazing physics of all of these games. beamng is truly the best out there, nothing close.

Nfs unbound with extensive tuning? No, you want extensive tuning? Go to Gran Turismo and Forza. Not Need for Speed. Need for Speed is an arcade racer. Not at all a sim. The whole series is based on arcade style driving with more realistic and beautiful graphics, using real world cars, and great customization options in most of their games.
So sick of people recommending Snowrunner without the asterisk that those scummy devs locked BUG FIXES behind season passes. Not season pass specific bugs, but bugs that are in the base game only get fixed if you get specific season passes.
The story isn't the problem with NFS Unbound - the driving is. When you change the way of winning the race from a racing line based on accelerator and brake inputs to instead a system of how you take turns with a wonky drift/whip mario kart like nitro boost (trust me, look it up), and don't give a way to save, and force players to run away from cops so frequently or else lose significant progress or if you do save it irreversibly hinders progress, the only critics that would endorse this game need to do so with a caveat that it's not a earth-physics road racing game like it advertises itself. Absolutely *not* "a solid choice for racing enthusiasts".

i love that game, but imma be honest, that games realistic and unforgiving physics still scare me, ill learn one day tho trust
I recently tried a tip and that was to set my wheel (G29) to 270 degrees of motion (I usually set it to 360) made a huge difference

I recently started enjoying the Grid games. You get to racing really fast, just like in old games. You aren't stuck in cutscenes or menus.
Most wanted 2012 is another great racing game. It's also stellar in graphics.

Driving the nurbergring in 4 minutes in a concept car in VR is intense. You'll break your thumbs if you're not careful.

Isle of Man 3! Motorcycle simulator and it's a stunner. It's the Dark Souls of racing but once you get the hang of it, it's amazing.
ATS, i felt in love with it, soon they will release on Steam 3 new states for 2025. Iowa, Missouri and Louisiana. i also like Dirt 4 and Snow Runner

The story isn't the problem with NFS Unbound - the driving is. When you change the way of winning the race from a racing line based on accelerator and brake inputs to instead a system of how you take turns with a wonky drift/whip mario kart like nitro boost (trust me, look it up), and don't give a way to save, and force players to run away from cops so frequently or else lose significant progress or if you do save it irreversibly hinders progress, the only critics that would endorse this game need to do so with a caveat that it's not a earth-physics road racing game like it advertises itself. Absolutely *not* "a solid choice for racing enthusiasts".
