Hey Tim! I think the "Base 1000" actually means you can use the scale to calculate whatever as long as you count 1000 units. Something along those lines... The Base 1000 isn't a part of the scale, more of a piece of information for the user.

Beautiful timepiece , the strap makes a huge difference it makes the watch seem less massive than it actually is .
