It's one of the best *really hard* platformers you'll ever play, but Namco's classic will keep you so entertained that you'll probably forget to get frustrated by it. Probably.
Yup, I rented this one when it first came out and beat it in those two days and then bought the game afterwards because I loved it so much. I actually played it at the Arcade back in 1990 and then saw it on Nick Arcade in 1992 and was immediately floored that there was a home version and even more amazed that the local video rental store (TBF, they carried every new Genesis and NES game) had the game to rent.
Glad to see this come into view! And I was equally surprised to see Ken Lobb's name in the credits! From a longplay of Rolling Thunder 2 for Genesis, he was also part of the development team in that game!
+vgaoct91 He had a hand in Taxan games on the NES. I still remember the ending of 8 Eyes when you got a special message from him from beating the third loop. I believe Kick Master also had a similar message from him :)
It certainly was. FYI - The localized version of the arcade ver. of Marvel Land has some pretty bad Engrish, and unless you have the level select enabled, you couldn't have access to the 4th World!
These characters were used in a roleplay I was in. Luxcie was an evil queen who used unwitting phantoms as her vessels of atrocity and the rest of the fairies were her bodyguards.
I agree with all of what you said. I find it interesting however that this was when Namco and Sega used to be rivals. Yet Namco lended a lot of their best to their beloved Genesis.
@@jordanjackson6151 Just like the old saying goes, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. And with both Sega and Sony, Namco demonstrated the truth of that axiom beautifully. Sucks when karma bites you in the ass, huh, Nintendo?
@@NintendoComplete Yet when it came to the 32 bit era, Namco released not one game on the Saturn, their output was on the PS1. Sony seemed to jump from company to company like a jilted lover. But even during the 16 bit era, Namco was still releasing games on the SNES/SFC.
Marvel Land (c) 1989 Namco. Great horizontal platform game that takes place in a fantasy amusement park. You play as Prince 👑 Paco, who is on a quest to save the Princess Luxy from villain the evil 👿 Mole King. Even if titlescreen 📺 says 1989, USA 🇺🇸 English Version Marvel Land was released in January 1990 in Japan 🇯🇵. Best Namco game ever! 10/10 Look 👀 at all those cute Namco mascots in the “parade of lights” Bonus States! Mappy’s my favourite!
Momentum plays a big part in this game, some stages momentum can carry you off a cliff, especially if the area you step on is sloped. I own a copy of this one, the games full of warps. There's one warp, near the end of the game that is hidden. Take it, and it's all the way back to the beginning for you. The boss fight mini games are also different from the arcade version. And Namco changed up the final stage (after the King Mole battle) layout, the arcade one forced you to momentum jump off a swinging gondola upwards (with the right momentum to get out), this one you just drop off the railcar and you're good to go. As well I noticed you avoided the big stars in the bonus stage and let them hit shrinking them. Grabbing them while they are biggest nets you 1,000 points instead of the paltry 100 the small ones do.
Bloodreign1 Oh yeah I know, but that momentum thing makes it hard to get those. I wasn't purposely avoiding them, unless I was going for the darker color stars that gave more points than the bright yellow ones. And the ice combined with the momentum = many moments of raging until I finally got a reliable read on when to push jump and for how long. Poor Talmit drowned so many times as I practiced lol
I suppose Dragon Men like Prince Talmit (AKA Paco) are more suited for flying and running as opposed to swimming. That'd be something either a fanmade series or an official webtoon/webcomic akin to how ShiftyLook did it would look into...
Trust me, I've killed the bastard more times than you can shake a stick at. I'm waiting to boot the game up sometime and the moment I press start, he'll say, nah screw it, we're not doing this again. Probably one of Namco's toughest games.
Yes. They showed many Genesis games too. They even had a prototype of the OG Sonic the Hedgehog game. Interesting watch on UA-cam to see the differences.

NintendoComplete was Pac man was one of the bad guys in the Game
RETRO VHS MAN VAULT FROM THE 70S 80S AND 90S Oh do you mean the thumbnail? Dragon Pacman is just a statue in the background of the bonus stage.

@@Turbotef Wait, what?! You came across an actual arcade cabinet of Marvel Land?! Get outta here, dude! That's surprising through and through!
This and earth worm Jim was the only games i couldn't beat when I was little glad I found this i had forgotten the name.

He also did one for the first of the two GI Joe games on NES.
vgaoct91 Coincidentally enough, wasn't that also Taxan game? Low G Man and Burai Fighter too.
It certainly was.

This game screams 80s arcade bliss

I love this game and music!
It was real hard! I Still have my copy like brand new! Though here is Europe it`s name is Talmit`s adventure!
Oddly enough, that wasn't the case in the UK, where it retained its original title of "Marvel Land".
vgaoct91 thats interesting! I wonder why they did that.
"One hit and you go down" also applied to Bubsy too.

First time when I saw him, when I was little, I thought it was Bull...
Marvel Land is a gorgeously done Namco game.
My original copy still has the piece of paper I had written all the level passwords on. Though you really only needed on if the last ones.
great video wish I knew bout this game
I 'member Nick Arcade. Got to meet Phil Moore last year in fact, along with Mark Turmell. Both cool guys.
was it that game show where the kids played Nintendo on those screens ?
Yes. They showed many Genesis games too. They even had a prototype of the OG Sonic the Hedgehog game. Interesting watch on UA-cam to see the differences.
Hi, would you mind if I use a short piece of this playthrough in a video I'm making? I'll credit your channel of course.
Go ahead :)
Great game 👍🕹👍🕹👍🕹
This game is easy I passed every level and it didn't take me long to do it
Nah, don't believe you, unless you practiced tons and have momentum jumps timed perfectly, or know shortcut warps like the back of your hand..
@@Bloodreign1 Agreed. I'm not trying to say I'm pro or whatever, but I tend to be pretty good at platformers and this one was brutally hard.
This game hates children.

How come any of that has to do with superheroes
It's the name of the land the hero lives in, also the name of the land that Valkyrie saves in Legend of Valkyrie.
