- A playthrough of Namco's 1994 Sega Genesis adventure game, Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures.
I recorded the SNES version quite awhile back, and I thought it only fair to give the same attention to the US exclusive Sega Genesis version. The graphics don't suffer much at all with the lower color palette of the Genesis, mainly because everything was so bright, cartoony, and primary-colored to begin with, but the MUCH higher quality sound (well, except for the samples... I've never heard a cow mooo sound like a groaning zombie before) and the inclusion of a brand-new remix of Ms. Pac-Man, Jr. Pac-Man (with new graphics, sounds, and cut-scenes) that is exclusive to this port really put it in the lead. The SNES version by comparison just has a remake of standard Ms. Pac-Man in it. If you have to chose a single platform to play it on, I'd absolutely recommend the Genesis one.

Regardless of platform, though, Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures (or Hello! Pac-Man, as it was originally called) is a pretty awesome game that really isn't like anything else. It's sort of a platformer when you don't directly control Pac, and it's sort of an adventure game with all the puzzle elements. Either way, it's oozing with charm, and it's a lot of fun to play. Pac-man has an insane amount of animation, and most of it is wicked funny. :)
One thing though - at the last boss, how did they not notice the horrendously awkward way that the name (at the bottom right corner) could be misread when rendered in that font?! I mean, even if it's purple, the boss is a goo blob! Well, who knows - maybe they did it on purpose;)

How many people, when they played this game, spent like 40 hours making Pac-Man miserable?
praxcrown5 dude i totally relate. when i would send him through the farm .id hit the beenest and get him stung or drop the haystack on the farmer and the. as pacmans carefully walking by i shoot the farmer to wake him up .and like not shoot the crow so he attacks you with pecks or shoot the cow so he gets mad at you lol good times . i want to play that jr pacman part .i literally beat the pacman2 game then didnt go back to play jr pacman .and i dont know where the codes that i wrote down are lol
The answer to that is "everyone".
I did that all the time. I loved how the game didn't punish you at all for knocking him out and instead just sent you to the beginning of the same screen you were on. That really made experimenting a blast.
I liked making him eat strange fruits from the trees so he would be sick 😂😂😂

Pac-Man 2 is a really cool shift from the original game, and loaded with all sorts of hilarious, random moments. Even if the controls (or lack thereof) frustrate you, it's hard to not have fun watching Pac-Man bumble suicidally along.

The Genesis itself was incapable of scaling, if any were put in games, it was done by software, since the hardware was incapable on it's own.

I must've been 7 when my parents got me this game. I could never pass the task set in the city. It was a pretty interesting game, if not an exceptional one.

I played this so much as a kid. Never got past the 2nd area in the mountains but played through that first part over and over again, as kids do.
In hindsight, what a bizarre game. No direct control over the characters, instead just hoping to influence them to do what you want. Such an insane idea. But hey, when someone asked some developers to make the sequel to freakin Pac-Man, and they swung for the fences. I don't think it's a "good" game but I respect it for its ambitions.
In the SNES Version, You're gonna play Ms. Pac-Man.

I think I'm the only person on this earth that thinks that this is one of the best games in the entire Pac-Man series... Even if the Genesis version makes Pac-Man sound like an old man breathing into phone speakers

The sound is totally different from the Super Nintendo version... lol weird.
That's because both consoles use a completely different sound chip. SNES uses 'samples' (actual recordings of instruments) while the Genesis uses FM synthesis.

I find this version easier than the snes flying is better than riding a cart for no reason this version actually made it look like the cover

@@zpushy633sora8 You say that, yet the SNES outsold the Genesis worldwide in the end. Sorry fanboy, guess many didn't agree with you. The only place the Genesis had any kind of traction, and actually sold really well, Europe. The US and Japan were the big two when it came to gaming and sales, and the SNES sold extremely well in both the #1 and #2 game markets in the world.

JUST picked this up, will get the SNES version soon so I'll have both that way. Also, what new remix of Ms Pac Man in this game, all I see is Pac-Man (which the SNES version has) and the exclusive Jr Pac-Man (the SNES version has Ms Pac-Man).

I own both versions of this game, as a collector I felt even though they are the same game, and play pretty much the same, that I just had to have both versions.
I find the lack of a Pac-Sphincter in this video disturbing. Other than that great video.

Why wasn't Pac Mania called Pac Man 2?
It makes far more sense since it brought so many things together while maintaining the spirit of the game-play, and Arrangement should've been Pac Man 3
This game has nothing to do with the mainline Pac-Man games at all, the reason why it was a sequel was purely for marketing. In Japan, the game was just called "Hello! Pacman".
I do agree that Pac-Mania should have been labelled Pac-Man 2.
54:49 Secret Hang Glider: To get the secret Hang Glider you must go to Mountain entrance and do the usual thing (change the Danger sign with Up sign and make Pac Jump before he become an omelette, After this make Pac climb the rope like if you have to do the Normal Hang Glider. Shoot the rock one time with the slingshot, now let Pac Man notice the rock and let him kick the rock in order to make fall the big boulder down to the Mountain entrance. Now make Pac-Man climb down with the rope to return in the entrance. now make Pac Man going on the right side of the entrance, you will notice an arrow that points a secret route. Shoot at the arrow to make Pac Man go in the secret route. Enjoy the tougher and secret Hang Glider. Take in mind if you wanna make a remake of Pac Man 2 Playtrough.
Is it me or did the devs forget to finish the manager and door art on the burger joint when you knock the head off the statue? The colors there are remarkably flat for just that one little area.
This is a pretty good attempt at the snes version.

It's not a bad game at all, just different from what console gamers were used to. PC gamers could likely easily adapt as PC's had plenty of point and click games for PC gamers to enjoy.

Even if they tried on the Genesis, Pac-Man 2 although its a Unique Game it doesn't have that Pac-Man feel really.
Even some Modern Games of the Series have that feel.

Pacman's voice sounds much BETTER & cuter here in the genesis. He sounds annoying in the Snes. I remember renting this from Blockbuster and played it on the genesis way back

Both versions had Pac Man with a slightly different voice between them, but the Genesis soundchip fails on the guy saying "Look Look" bit. He sounds far cleaner on the SNES one, while the SFC one had a female doing the voiceovers as the announcer.

Great port, but I just wish this port used the Mega Drive's 320x224 mode than the 256x224 this used. I suppose it was easier to transfer the SNES HUD that way, but still.

If it would ever be added, Namco would likely use the SNES version. Both games pretty much play the same anyway. The difference lies in their mini games, but since Ms Pac-Man is no longer under the Namco umbrella, another strike against this version not being added to any modern console's virtual library.

The Genesis and SNES versions have a different arcade game SNES has Mis.Pac-Man and Genesis has Pac JR. This is do to Mis.Pac-Man already being on the Genesis and Pac JR already being on the SNES before this game came out
Ms Pac-Man was already on both consoles, and Jr Pac-Man was on neither 16 bit console, outside of the sprite changed to Pac-Jr Ms Pac-Man in this one. This was likely done to those who owned both consoles, to get both versions due to their little bonuses.
