  • Hi friends! Today I'm telling you about my experience (so far) in being prescribed Ozempic to aid me in weight management - and I'll also be addressing some of the controversies around medication for weight loss, and Ozempic in particular.
I've been afraid to post this one because I never want to offend anybody, but please know two things
    1) These are just my opinions and my personal experience. Do not take anything as fact
    2) I AM NOT A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL!!!! I am not giving you medical advice, I am just relaying my experience

Thank you for your videos! My insurance wouldn't cover Ozympic without prior auth approval, I had to have at least two medical conditions for approval which I had like 4.. I also have a family history of diabetes and I didn't ask my doctor about this medicine... I just want people to stop shaming anyone who takes this but doesn't officially have diabetes, I don't want it. My father was in full renal failure and on dialysis for almost 7 years until he died. I’m sorry you had trouble getting it! It sucks because I do agree that diabetics need the drug, and I do agree that people shouldn’t seek it out for weight loss when they have no other issues when there’s a shortage, but there’s a gray are of people like us who have risk factors that want to get ahead of it

Also a good idea to check with your insurance about alternatives. Semaglutide (the active in what you are taking) only works on one pathway. Terzepatide works on the same pathway and adds another. Has similar side effect profile for better results. Your doctor may not even know it exists yet. I keep my doctor on his toes.

I agree with you! If it's prescribed by a healthcare provider, it's medically necessary and there should be no question if you're "entitled" to it or not. I think it's similar to the point you made earlier in the video that it's crazy that drug companies can advertise the way they do in the US. I used to work reception for a general practitioner and it was shocking the number of patients who would come in specifically demanding a medication just because they saw it on TV, without even looking for the doctor's opinion on if it was suitable for them (they often left with an education from the providers vs what they came in demanding). Anyways, props to you for asking the questions and following your NPs advice ❤️

Touching on the shortage issue and whether or not you should take Ozempic….. if your doctor prescribed it for you bc they feel you meet the qualifications for it, even if you are not diabetic, then you should take it and not feel bad about it! Because if you are classified as medically obese and you have one or more of the comorbidities (chronic illnesses) that qualify you to get the medication such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, etc, then it’s possible that you are also on your way to becoming a type 2 diabetic as well. Especially if type 2 diabetes runs in your family. You need this medication just as much as the diabetic bc it could help you to prevent diabetes through weight loss and better eating habits. I get so mad when I hear others trying to shame people for trying to help themselves by using Ozempic and getting shamed for it. 😠😤 Most of my patients that take it for weight loss have literally tried everything else… including eating the right amount of the right foods and daily exercise. There are medical conditions that make it very difficult to lose weight such as thyroid disease and other hormone imbalances. You take your Ozempic unapologetically and don’t let anyone tell you that you need it any less than someone else! ❤ that is just a simple lack of information on their part.

      @NaturalTiger Рік тому +4

@@sharonforbes8089 Sharon, are you a diabetic? Not judging you for taking the medication to lose weight, at all.
I just have a theory as to what may be occurring with some people who are not diabetic that are taking the medication. I've read of some people who experience intense sugar cravings and of people like yourself who get really hungry after taking it.
One of the mechanisms that causes this medication to work is that it encourages your body to produce more insulin and it encourages your body to better use the insulin it produces. That's why it's so effective for those of who are insulin resistant.
For people who are not diabetic, if the medication causes you to produce more insulin and better use the insulin you naturally produce than that might explain the craving for sweets and ravenous hunger you experience. These are telltale signs that your body is experiencing a sugar low. It used to be, before I started wearing a continuous glucose monitor if I got overly hungry I would immediately test my sugar level. Hypoglycemia's early warning signs is an intense craving for sugar or ravenous hunger. It's your body's warning to eat. I can be dead asleep and I will wake up and run to the kitchen, test my sugar and sure enough I'm having a low blood sugar reaction. I now have an alarm that is part of my sensor that wakes me up.
      Just some food for thought!

I think the biggest mistake some people do about this medication they consider it as a miracle pill that just take their pounds away. I see this as a help for to create healthy habits: stop snaking, get rid of sugar cravings, adopt good intermittent fasting IF routine so I can form a solid habits to live like this after I stop this medication. I give myself a year. The brain neurons create new habit in 3 months, so I think the year would be a good term to

It was a naive assumption but I don’t seek out medication, I only take it if a provider brings it up and we discuss it but you’re totally right, people could ask for it for cosmetic purposes only and just get it.

Because of little girlies on tiktok, Kim k, and Elon it's become a giant trend to go on a drug seeking mission to get a doctor to prescribe it. Their doctors aren't just bringing it up. The patients are asking and sometimes manipulating to get it. Learning exactly what to say from tiktokers
And as far as the medical providers, most countries have put bans on prescribing it for weight loss, and putting new patients on it at all.
Only American hasn't done that. And I do believe the doctors are mostly at fault here. But in the same vein drug seekers for a fad need to back off. If your doctor brings it up and legitimately thinks you need it then great do it. Do what you need to to be healthy.
I'm type 2 diabetic, this is a life saving medication for me. And now its rough trying to get it. I've had to push off my injection dates, just to make sure It can last til the pharmacy gets more. Which is what I'm doing right now. My knees hurt my ankles hurt, I'm the heaviest I've been and I can't lose it. Before I fell down my front steps I was riding my bike 10 miles a day 6 days a week, eating 1000 calories a day and every time I get on the scale, +3lbs or +6lbs it kept creeping up and it's not muscle weight. I went from a 18 to a 20 in a year...dieting and exercising. The heavier I get the worse my PCOS symptoms are and they are at a point where I need to get a handle on it or I'm going to be diabetic and over 300lbs. So I went to my Dr. We weren't sure if my insurance would cover it and it does I'm picking up my script this afternoon and I finally feel like I might be able to get a handle on this.

@@rizellephilip8182 no I didn't.. ok ozempic worked great. But insurance said yeah we don't think you qualify to be on the medication my Dr said I was perfect for. So they booted me and off anything similar. I'm currently on Metformin now and honestly I got to my highest ever at 275. I'm 4ft11in. I'm finally back down to the 240s walking And biking about 5-6 miles a day and on a starvation diet of 1 bowl of cereal or a salad a day that's it ... Not both one or the other. And when I do eat my one thing a day it's the same portion as my 4yo. I'm sorry I have really shit advice don't do what I'm doing go demand your Dr treat you. It's bullshit and I hate my insurance but I couldn't live with myself at 275 so I developed back my high school eating disorder and maybe I'll get back to 215. That's my only goal because I literally can not get past 215

Ozempic and Wegovy are the exact same medication, one is prescribed primarily for Type 2 Diabetes and the other for Weight loss. Although Wegovy has been approved in Canada for almost a year it is still unavailable so Ozempic is being prescribed off label for weight loss so yes Ozempic is a weight loss aid and there are a LOT of people that can attest to that.

Not one illness deserves more attention then another. I was prescribed for menopausal with menopause u become insulin resistant that’s one of the reasons women gain weight as you get older and with becoming over weight from menopause you also get high blood pressure and high cholesterol . So the ozempic is prescribed to regulate the insulin. So let’s be clear Doctors prescribing know what they are doing
