  • In this video, owner and CEO of Daniel Smith Artists' Materials John Cogley, talks about the history and organic growth of Daniel Smith.
John also talks about the process behind the colours. Each colour is made of pigments, and each pigment comes from a different part of our world. This matches up poetically to how artists' paint what they see. Depending on where an artist is from, they may use more of a specific colour than an artist in another part of the world would.
We hope you enjoy this insight into the world of Daniel Smith Watercolors. We know that John's love for colour is infectious!

    BLOOMING COLOUR:
As spring erupts in all its splendour, we find ourselves surrounded by a vibrant kaleidoscope, a feast for the eyes that awakens our senses and encourages us to create.
This May, we’re exploring the theme ‘Blooming Colour’, delving into the ways nature can be a catalyst for artists to soak up the full spectrum of beauty and diversity in the world around us. From the delicate pinks of dogwood to the vivid yellows of daffodils, the natural world offers a wealth of inspiration. Let’s embrace the joy of colour and explore the many ways in which it can enrich our lives and enhance our creative practices.
Our interview with John is one part of our exploration of our theme of Blooming Colour. With spring reaching full bloom, it's the perfect time to explore the vibrant world of colours, and what better way to explore colour than with Daniel Smith? If you haven't already tried Daniel Smith's Extra Fine Watercolors, you're definitely in for a colourful treat. The watercolours come in over 200 colours, letting you paint everything you can imagine vibrantly and consistently. Plus, Daniel Smith has also recently launched Daniel Smith Extra Fine Gouache, their professional artist-grade opaque water media.

I haven't found a color and a flow from a watercolor that is quite as enjoyable as Daniel Smith. I buy one here and there as I go. They work great with other brands, and they never let me down. My favorite is the primatek line. I am an avid hiker amd outdoorsman, the primateks help me share my outdoor experiences through sketchbook.
