Nice bow however didn't see it fully strung or see you actually firing it just some arrows hitting a target if you filmed a full wide view of a true test ot would have been awesome otherwise great build and concept for a recurve bow 👍
I made afew PVC bow before but with no sucess like yours as the limb tend yo break after a while so i cut and grinded leaf spring into two small strips and inserted them into the PVC limbs and now after many years it still hold no more breaking
Not a bad build and I say that with a few years experience building these bows, of several different styles, and shooting them. You can make a really decent bow with PVC but it's best not to get attached to them. PVC has a limited life span especially if you shoot a lot, and shooting a lot is how you get good. Unfortunately the bows that I made that I really loved were the ones that I shot all the time and they were the ones that eventually gave up the ghost and shattered in my hands. After six of them went that way I gave up on PVC and now work in wood, though I have much to learn. PVC is fun, easy, and quick to work with but simply doesn't last. My favorite bow at present is a Shakespeare "Turkish recurve" from the sixties, -wood and fiberglass- still shooting perfectly and showing no signs of giving up on me. That's what you want in a bow.
i've had 3 snap in half, they were shorter then most ive made. i think i didnt work them in well enough. even made a couple that i reshaped into a totally different bow just a bit shorter every time for new knocks. mind you one or twp of those might have been left in my car, strung up still and baking in the heat. take the string off and the bow barely moves lol
Having made lots and lots of things from heat formed pvc over the years , I believe the "shattering" problem you experienced was likely caused by ofer heating/drying during the initial forming of your bows. pvc like many plastics are very prone to "plasticizer migration" which can occur when heated up to much and or allowed to be exposed to UV light for too long (even indirect UV can cause this.) If you ever have interest in trying to form pvc bows again, may I suggest a few ideas that should increase their lifespan. 1 Select your pipe from the deepest part of the bundle where it was less likely to have been exposed to sunlight. 2. cut off the first 6 " of the pipe where it could could have sat exposed to the sun in the builders storage ward for weeks prior to your purchase. After you cut off the first 6" try grabbing the cut off piece with a pliers and smacking the fresh cut end with a hammer. If it's good for bow making it should NOT shatter, but rather should simply flatten out with successive hammer blows. If it shatters, repeat the hammer test 6" further towards the center. If it shatter fails 2-3 more times simply return that pipe as UV degraded and try another until you get on that doesn't shatter. 3. If you can avoid it, don't heat the pipe with a heat gun or fire. both will easily dry out or scorch the pvc and leave it brittle. Instead use steam from a steam cleaner or old pressure cooker from good will with some 1/2" fittings affixed to the lid to allow you to direct the steam in to the pvc pipe. (wear gloves!) The steam will heat up the pvc , but will not scorch or dry it out in the forming , so it will retain it's original strength and flexibility. 4. Lastly. after you've formed the pvc, PAINT IT! UV light is the #1 cause of plasticity loss & plasticizer migration. It takes very little uv exposure daily to make strong & flexible pvc turn brittle. A well formed and uv protected pipe should fail via crimping when over bent, not shattering. Hope this helps should you try using pvc for building anything in the future. :)
@@Killianwsh Interesting. I always used a heat gun for forming but I also always painted my bows to protect against the UV rays. Over heating may have been a problem in the beginning since I struggled to get the exact shape I wanted. Steaming does sound superior but it also sounds like bending wood so I might as well go with the more tried and true material. I still have some of my PVC bows and even shoot them on occasion but I try not to put too much strain on them. I guess I've been burned too many times. I just got a new Korean bow and love the way it shoots. Of course my first thought on inspecting it was, "I could so make this out of PVC." Old habits die hard.
@@RedStretchLimo Haha! Yes they do indeed die hard. Might I ask if you noticed a breakage pattern of any sort on the pvc bows you built ? did they seem to fail most often at the nock, or the sayas, or limbs? or perhaps at the junctions? In terms of longevity for bow building , I completely agree, Fiberglass & wood are far superior materials, (not to mention prettier ;), however, they are also much costlier in time and labor & harder to work easily. Given that you seem to enjoy the "made it your self" aspect of building things, as I do, I highly recommend giving steam forming/ softening a try. It's much easier and faster to get good results than using a heat gun or flame softening. PVC becomes very easily mould-able in a surprising;y small amount of time when placed directly into even a small steam flow. I think it has something to do with the water holding the heat longer and being able to efficiently transfer it to the pvc better than hot air alone. I use an old steam valet like you might find in hotels for touching up dress shirts, but even with a simple old teapot, once the water's boiling, it only takes a min or two tops to turn a sch40 into a noodle you can make into all kinds of things in seconds, & for pennies ,compared to the labor , material, and time required to shape, glue up, and finish most other materials. :)
Your video would be much better if it had a narrative with it. What is the diameter of your pipe. How long is the part that you start pressing. Where do you start bending the bow. Thanks

Don't get me wrong, this seems like a great and cheap way of making a bow but by the end of the video you don't even show the bow you were actually building strung and you show arrows being fired but not the bow that was firing them. This will make people (like myself) wonder whether it actually works. There's too much fake crap on the internet to not include shots like that in your videos.

I checked out their YT channels and looked at their videos and..well, they don't HAVE any video's, imagine that! They just tear down other people's work with ignorant and mean comments. Keep up the good work :-)
would have liked to actually see it strung... and used. could have been shooting anything we couldn’t see, also it didn’t look anything like the picture.
That was a cool bow but not a horsemans bow like the advertisement! Why didn't you show the end result or finished product? Instead we only see boxes being shot at with clearly a not so straight bow because the arrows were flying sideways. And you gave up on stringing it? What happened there lol . Nice attempt though but we're guessing you couldn't finish it. It was a nice try though

Actually here in Mongolia we have shorter summer PVC works very well. The wood bow can be very costly.
