- 1968 Mustang ProStreet project update! In this video I address an ongoing issue of a leaking and low pressure fuel pump. A new Holley red electric fuel pump is installed and certain tips and pointers are highlighted. Stay tuned for a future update on the Fastback!

I installed a Holley 12-801-1 on my 54 Nash Ambassador with a crate 350. After 2 years of dinking around with other cheap electrics. I got tired of pumps that lost their prime anytime when it ingested an air bubble. (like a sweeping turn with less than a quarter tank)
With the Holley 12-801-1 I decided to test whether it's self-priming or not. Holley tech service didn't actually know this. (they could only quote their own website)
I took the new pump and connected a fuel hose, shoved it down the filler tube, put power on the pump. Within one second it shot gas halfway across the driveway. So, YES, it's self-priming!
I have done the conversion on a couple of other cars before, and they almost always need a pressure regulator with an electric pump. About 45-50 bucks, the Holley adjustable is awesome, and worked very well. I am about to do another one, because my last mechanical pump just tried to kill my brand new engine, dumping gas into the oil. I also picked up a new regulator, and also an inline gauge for under the hood. That way it can be monitored regularly. A quick adjustment, and back in business without installing a temporary gauge, then re-installing back like it was. I do hear most Holleys like 5.5-6.5 PSI.
Greatly appreciate this video and the pro tips at the end. Couldn’t figure out what I had done wrong. Didn’t know the pump and bracket moved (newb here) so I just installed the pump as it came out of the box. Sure enough after watching this video I checked my setup and I had installed the pump backwards.. burned that pump out 😂 Oh well, bought a new Holley 12-600 instead and re attached everything and now I’m rolling again. No one else mentioned the out-the-box check so thanks again!
Lol..can't believe you didn't look for flow directions..lol. better check your fuel filters too! They may be wrong..🎉
I'm wondering why you didn't solder those wires? Or at least heat shrink wrap them. Maybe even a wire loom. Beautiful car, but the wires need to be tucked away.
I'm needing to lower my Holley 12-125 fuel pump . What gauge steel you use for the bracket you made for the Holley red pump?
Surprised you are using a red pump on a big block and not the HP Black 150GPH pump, or at least a blue pump. I run the HP pump on my 69 427 nova with E85. I use blue on my 454 el Camino.
Riddle me this jic and an fittings are they compatible
Did u install a fuel regulator???
Holley Red pumps have an internal regulator to 7 psi. Holley Blue pumps require a regulator.
I had a red. Very, very loud. Stupid loud. Hated it. Switched to a Mallory 110. Much better. Can't hear it with the engine running.
Post a link to the one you bought. I see Mallory offers more than one 110gph pump...
How did you wire it up? I am using the same fuel pump but still trying to figure out how should I wire it up ? Please advice
The fuel pump had a toggle switch inside the car near the ignition when I purchased it so it’s tapped in to the positive and negative in the back (battery relocated to trunk) and has its own toggle switch
pfmustang so there is current always running thru the toggle ? Or is it triggered thru in a way when the key is turned,. I’m doing 302 swap on 69 mustang so needed advice how to go about that
Battery has a kill switch as well. Once the kill switch allows power, the toggle switch along with the one for my electric fan will only be able to be used when the ignition is turned on. If there is no key in the ignition, both toggle switches don’t work
Should always be wired through an oil pressure switch for safety. Meaning the pump will only run when the engine is running. If you wreck your car and are injured or incapacitated the fuel pump will continue to run feeding the fire, the oil pressure safety switch will prevent that.
What’s the in and what’s the out on the pump
No pre filter ???
Where did you get the fittings for the pump?
Had the fittings already on the car but you can get them at jegs or summit
What no filter ???
What’s your fuel
Pressure
What are fitting sizes?
Is yours really loud? I finally installed my Holley Red pump that’s been sitting on my shelf for a few years, and it’s super loud.
My old one was extremely loud, this one still makes noise but is not nearly as loud as the old one. If you check out my most recent video of the 68 you can hear it for a few seconds before I start the car
ua-cam.com/video/xZUEhueF-6Q/v-deo.html&app=desktop
they’re fairly loud but once my car is running I can’t hear
the fuel pump anymore due to my pipes are noisier!
no rubber isolators??? can see clearly.....
Dont put thread tape on the hose side of the fittings!!
Damn speak up
