Is your boat a 20" transom? I'm trying to put same engine on my 20" transom boat, but Mercury's website says that this engine is a 15" transom. Trying to figure out the discrepancies. Thanks
The transom height is 16.5'', so I had to install a metal plate to make it higher. The ideal install is to have the intake of water level with the boat. Just like in the picture below.atlanticboats.net/wp-content/gallery/40-efi-jet/optimax-jet-inset.jpg

I think if the boat had a tunnel more water will get to it the inlet to propel more water. At top speed you'll notice there's not much water behind the boat.
That’s what all outboard jets have. The reason they last so long is they only ever turn one direction. The reverse is “a cheap looking mechanism” that redirects the water backwards. The motor doesn’t actually change the direction it pumps

They exist for almost any outboard, they also have a power loss of at least 30%. If its a 25 its really a 17.5 now

They make them up to something like 150hp. The older ones were 2 stroke but the newer ones are 4.

I run a 429ci Ford with a berkeley jet drive. You should have left the trim all the way up to shoot the rooster tail.

it's from the manufacturer.....jet drive motors. They've been around for decades.

Good for shallow water, but 25hp water jet will move you about as fast as a 8hp prop engine.

It doesn’t. Have same mechanism on my 20 jet mercury. It’s almost 20 years old. Just have to adjust from time to time.
