Well its like this, It kinda bugs me that these guys have become famous for nothing other than association, Nothing more than owning a vintage guitar, In the early 70s this could have gone either way. On the other hand You can't fault a man for following his passion i mean i have 100 fishing poles and 2 boats, So i get it totally. Now the Question is,Does he buy into and or sell the hype... You as well as i know these are no better than the 2013 /14/15/16/17 R series LP being pumped out by the thousands, The only this that really sets them apart is the Numbers, He happened along a small batch number of guitars witch in turn has made them rare the right time at the right place type of deal,Getting back to the hype if he sells the hype and believes it he an asshole if he sells the hype and knows its hype but does so to keep some of the value alive than he can't be faulted. either way this is my 2 cent!!
enjoyed reading your rant JH, I appreciate the great quality of some of the new ones but after being around so many and hearing really cranked up the old bursts are just the same as Strads. They have matured and have a tone the new ones cannt match. Tom is a great guy with a love of tone so he bought and traded them over the years and hung on to his favourites. Value means nothing to him, he loves them for what they are.
Jay J I played bass with Tom in his band The Bluesberries. I can say without question Tom definitely is no asshole. He’s a genuine guy who loves bursts and the business in general. When Gibson needs Les Paul info, Tom’s phone rings. He’s been very kind to people who are very kind, and that said, treats people in general the way he’d prefer to be treated. He never took a cut for playing gigs, and always made certain we were paid. You’re correct in saying one can’t be faulted for following their passion. Tom paid his dues. He deserves to reap the rewards. May good fortune shine on you bro. Peace.
It would be like if you owned a classic really cool vintage fishing pole store that repaired local kids stuff for next to nothing like he did for me when I was a kid and he fixed my pedals for only a buck or two. His shop is a classic type of hole in the wall real style that you don't really find that much anymore, let alone in southern Missouri. There are few of those types of places around. So unless you own a vintage fishing pole repair shop that is really cool to the community I would hesitate to talk smack.

BTW the Peter Green burst is now owned by Kirk Hammett of Metallica who paid $2 Million for it.

Awesome!! Greeny is a one of a kind beast bc of the "mistake" in putting it back together.
