- Sonic Frontiers isn’t quite the big return to form that many wanted it to be, but for the first time in a long time, it feels like that may not be far off. This groundwork could lead to the Blue Blur being a legitimate competitor to even Mario soon. And that alone is worth celebrating.

This was already confirmed, but the ending song is a message from Sonic Team to the players. After listening to it, I can't help but respect the team behind this game. This is something they definitely wanted to make to awhile, and I hope we either get big scale DLC (cause I'd definitely pay for it, with how fun this game is) or that the next era of this series continues down this road

Biggest surprise of 2022 for me. I had bare minimum expectations after that initial showing, but I ended up loving the experience. Yeah, it’s very rough, but the foundation is incredibly solid. If it’s true that they’ll continue with this formula, we’ll have something special on our hand in the future.

meanwhile the fangame people whine about no loops or no humans when these are long abandoned islands with no people and a ruined civilization and not south island where green hill and its loops are located and thats the whole point. this is meant to be a game focused on exploring these mysterious islands and learning the secrets of the original civilization of angel island and origins of the chaos emeralds, all on these islands known as the starfall islands. its not meant to be the traditional sonic game in a city with people or on south island with green hill and its unnatural loops. its also meant to be the starting point with future games with loops and cities and humans to use this format, so if anything you all are preventing amazing games you want with this open zone format including city hubs from happening by hating on this game, and you're too clueless to realize it. you also complain about the floating rails and platforms too clueless to realize they are temporary platforms and rails formed from data by the ancients' own technology, solving the puzzles generates them, it even explains it in the tutorial if you actually play the game. you even have bridges being materialized from data for sonic to cross, but apparently rails and platforms is too much of a stretch for you?
Am I the only Sonic fan that could care less? Green Hill is overused but it’s just visually a very nice setting… I would love Emerald Hill or Seaside Hill sometime tho…

I'm 15 hours in on Hard Difficulty and I love the game so far.
Going forward, don't pick the lowest difficulty for any Sonic game.
I didn’t have high expectations going into this game, but I’m really enjoying it so far. I wasn’t really having fun on the first island, but after that the game for me has been great. I’ve been loving it, all though I think the user score on metacritic is a bit high

Glad I was wrong. I just wanted the game to be good. Not groundbreaking, just good and something fun. It's also one of the few 3D Sonic games where the story is actually pretty good.
I’ll echo what others are saying: hope you are well ChiGuy, and some of us are concerned for you due to not hearing anything. From what I saw, his twitter says as of March 2023 that he will be back “next month” but of course nothing happened with that and he hasn’t tweeted since. Hope you are alright my man.

In my opinion the best and last good 3-D sonic game was generations. My only problem with it is it was way too short.

idk why it being more realistic is such a problem, what about SA1, SA2, Sonic 06, Sonic Unleashed, etc, have normal world stuff just like Frontiers, except Frontiers is just in a more open areas which are just a plain ol grassy land and desert which is the same thing as those games i listed which are realistic places/real world areas and Sonics just in them just like weve always seen and the only difference is the graphics, makes me wonder if people would hate a SA1 or 2 remake cuz it'll look "too" real for them ig

@@MsMRkv Unlikely, he has been on the UA-cam grind for years despite low views. I believe something big must have happened in his life for him to stop making UA-cam videos for this long. At the same time though I can't help to think he may have lost motivation to keep the channel going with it being so long since the last upload, and so that might explain why he hasn't come back yet.

The game is incredible. It’s extremely fun in mindless ways, it feels like classic Sonic and the Cyberspace levels are a fun little challenge to try and S Rank while getting all of the other keys. Game is way better than any Sonic game in the last 10 years.

Mario Odyssey is a really bad repetitive mess and both games have flaws but Mario Odyssey has flaws that people literally ignore.
I'm playing the" worst" version and i still love the game on the switch. After playing hours of the game the pop in doesn't bother me as much. I think its because i just came from from playing nier on the switch. I love the character interactions and i like the story a lot.

It really is. It makes for a lot of possibilities for the future of Sonic.
I also feel like the game was so close to being an outstanding experience. There were just little flaws here and there that were holding it back. Even so, the game is definitely a step up from what came before.

Sonic Frontiers took me 33.8 hours to complete in my first playthrough, I was playing hard mode
I genuinely wonder what happened to chi guy? Being gone for 11 whole months is insane hopefully he didn’t harm himself or has been feeling depressed I know that he’s a small content creator and maybe he let the UA-cam algorithm get to his head? Whatever the case is wishing for your return someday since you missed a LOT of stuff that happened in the gaming industry.

Sonic Team has DEFINITELY redeemed themselves for Sonic Forces. I'm enjoying Frontiers immensely.
Just made it to the last island. I love this game, even with all it's flaws. It isn't perfect, and I wouldn't give it a perfect score either - but it's a start. I was cautiously optimistic - pop-in, and the out of place world doesn't bother me. I could go over the glitches with the game - but aside from that - this unique approach made me love sonic games again - I haven't felt this much joy since Sonic 3 and Knuckles, and Sonic Adventure. I think with time and a bigger budget - this formula will mature - that's if Sega doesn't go in "another direction"

The pop in's were never bad when playing the game and Actually didn't notice that there so much pop in's
As someone who actually still enjoys the "bad" Sonic games and also enjoys the good ones, I will say this is quite a fun game. To get the flaws out of the way, yes the pop-ins are bad, yes the graphics aren't the best, yes it can feel too empty at times (something I noticed is also an issue in Breath of the Wild and somewhat Mario Odyssey), but overall it's a fun game. Now it's not my favorite Sonic game, but I really enjoyed what I played of it. The combat, while not perfect, also feels pretty good and of course the music is fantastic. If I were to give this game a score out of 10, I'd either say it's a high 7 or a low 8 out of 10. To me, Sonic never had a "rough" tradition into 3D, I think it just had the same struggles as other 2D franchises going into 3D. The problem was just Sega hardly giving a lot of those games enough time to reach their full potential. That Sonic 06 fan project proves that that game could have been amazing had Sega not rushed it. Even still, I don't think Sonic 06 is nearly as bad as people say. It's definitely not good, but it's definitely not bad either. Anyway, I enjoyed Frontiers. It's flawed, but fun. But more than anything; I'm glad it's doing as good as it is with fans and (to a lesser extent) critics.
Seeing all these Nintendo UA-camrs i used to watch daily when i was in highschool just move on is a sign i need to move on, im 26 now
In my opinion, you describe a lot of things that can be improved, but not a single one of those things lowered the amount of fun I had with the game. I personally had more fun playing this game than anything other game since DMC V.

Sonic has always had realistic environments. Even in the classic games. It's only in recent years they've started taking the classic aesthetic too literally and making all this weird blocky environments. THAT doesn't fit sonic. Makes it feel too much like Mario. Too abstract for a series that's always had some grounded elements in a sci-fi fantasy world. I'd rather have a hyper realistic sonic world over something like Sonic Lost World lmao
The joke is that Sonic Lost World actually agrees with you. It's literally a seperate whacky pseudo-planet in the skies, it doesn't fit into Sonic's world because it's NOT Sonic's world. Meanwhile, the Starfall islands are literally just some random islands in the middle of one of earth's oceans from a geographical perspective, thus it fits in more into the usual style.
Definitely some points I disagree with in this video but I'm glad I'm enjoying this game and I'm glad you found stuff to enjoy as well.
The perfect description of sonic frontiers is: "a junky game that I enjoy"

I'm not into Sonic Frontiers but I don't know if it's true but if it is I'm not into it essentially if you do bigs the cat fishing mission you can buy the stuff that you need to collect so essentially it's just like Mario Odyssey you can go to the store and buy the collectible stuff that you need to collect to progress the game

Great review on the game. I felt Frontiers did alot of cool new things but overall the game is clearly unpolished and a bit janky. The Cyberspace levels were some of the worst 3D Sonic stages I've played despite the levels being rehashes of actually good levels. The story also left a bit to be desired and the final boss was easily the worst in the entire series. Real mixed bag of a game but hopefully this is a step in the right direction
So I can essentially do fishing all day and skip the whole game or Skip One Island and go to the next Island and do more fishing and then skip that Island if I want to just sit there and fish all day I know people is not going to do that I'm just that type of person that I say a scenario that's not going to happen but my whole point there's no store that should be in there that you can essentially by past the whole game
