    Enjoy your videos very much.
    The fuel hose came off inside the tank because the nipple on the plastic adapter is smooth. Stihl updated that piece many years ago to a ribbed nipple on the plastic. No more fuel hoses falling off. It comes as a kit for the four mix. Never reuse the smooth ones. It will bite you in the end.
    As for the carburetor, no rebuilds from experience. Much smaller orifices inside and if the primer bulb is that bad, the carb is not far behind.
    Valve adjustment at EVERY tune up. After so many of those drive shafts coming apart, you need all the tricks you can fiind. A lot more fun when they are in the shape of an ess.
    Just another day at a Stihl shop.

    I had no idea the rough starting was due to the valves needing to be adjusted. I immediately ordered a kit and wow. What an improvement! I adjust the valves on my 3 classic VWs on a regular basis so I feel like a derp for not realizing this is what my Kombi needed. Thanks so much!

    About 8 years ago I saw that same model pole-saw for sale on eBay for $600 with shipping. It was used but looked new and had the tools and everything. I bought it for my son and it's been a trouble-free workhorse since. It's a hand-full when extended to the full 16' but sometimes you just need it all. It's a great product just like our Stihl chainsaws, blowers, and trimmers. Great info on adjusting the valves. Thanks!

    Looks like the customer had these sitting for a few years before he finally bit the bullet and had them looked at. My neighbor has a FS 85 trimmer that ran like poo. Thanks to your guidance, it now runs like a champ. Thanks from both of us, I learned how to fix it, and he has his trimmer back. BONUS, I can now borrow it when needed!

    My 130R trimmer was hard to pull to start. I took it back to the dealer and they said that is how they are. Now I had owned it for about a year. I got the feeler gage and the parts. Watched a few videos on what to do but no one said anything about the 2 different top dead settings to where the valves are. I believe I seen a video you posted on the correct way to do it. I was totally off. Now it pulls so much easier. Thank you!

    Hi Bre,
    I know what that kind of back pain feels like. I needed two back surgeries for my auto accident injury. The spinal fusion surgery relieved about 75% of my low back pain, but another rear end accident five years later made all the pain return. Have been on pain management since 2000. There was one time, before the fusion surgery, I was loading up my pickup with unmounted 10:00 x 20" truck tires for our dump trucks. Our family owned a fleet of dump trucks and I was the mechanic/driver. Well, I needed to load up eight tires and on the last one as I was flipping it onto the tailgate my back went out with that screaming pain knocking me to the ground and I couldn't get back up. I was at home and had to crawl back into the house through the back door. Luckily there was a phone on the desk in the basement I could reach to call my father for help. I would not have been able to reach any of the wall mounted phones. He was able to get me on a sofa in the basement and I stayed there for several hours until the pain subsided enough to head to the ER. It wasn't long after that event I had the fusion surgery. You, Ron and the family stay safe.

    • @Chickanic
      @Chickanic  4 місяці тому +3

      Oh no! So Sorry Don! The same thing happened to Ron. I walked out back of our old repair shop and he was laying on the ground by the zero turn he was working on. Had to go to the emergency room, but they were no help. Took hours just to get any pain meds.

    • @DonDegidio
      @DonDegidio 4 місяці тому +2

      @@Chickanic Hi Bre,
      I found the ER was also not much help except getting a script for some stronger pain meds. It was about a week before I could get back to work from that event.

    I've had the "pleasure" of diagnosing one of those,first time I had ever seen this system. One other notorious point of failure is the PLASTIC camshaft,which will be mangled when the valves need adjustment. Another 6$ or so part,will save you a lot of trouble to just replace while it is opened up

    After your back is back to full functioning, there are exercises to strengthen the muscles that help a lot. Will keep it from going out again in the future. I had trouble for a lot of years, until i got on the ball and strengthened my muscles. No no problem for the last decade or two. Yes, im getting up there in age, but i feel great.

    Nice job. The valve adjustment is a regular maintenance item. It says right in the Owner's Manual to adjust the valves every 130 hours. No one ever does it and then they complain that the recoil is hard to pull and the engine doesn't have any power.

      Once any structural problems have been found and dealt with, the next best thing for most back problems is physical therapy.
      This is not to say, "Just go to the gym, bro!" but to work with doctors and physical therapists to find the routines that will best work for you and YOUR back issues.

    Do take care of your back! Those issues really get worse over time. At 77 I wish I could undo all the heavy lifting I did early in life (starting at $1.15/hour). It's finally cool enough to start cutting firewood for next year and this old body needs the work to keep from locking up! The lesson I learned is, just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. Good plan to let Alex do that cranking!

    Hi Bre, interesting to note that the feeler gauge for these valves is actually 4 thousandths. I put a Mitutoyo 500-196-30 Digital Caliper on mine and that's what it read. There's a 10 stamped on the feeler gauge so it has to be a metric tool. Conversion is 2.56cm/in.

    I was hoping to see you fix the pole part too but just to get the engine running again is good. I'm not particularly fond of the design of the 4mix engine and I think the Shindaiwa hybrid4 design makes more sense since the fuel air mix actually goes up into the head and through the intake valve. I am more of a Honda mini 4 stroke design fan as those engines are incredibly smooth, easy to start and use. My Honda trimmer, unfortunately is out of commission currently as it needs some work on the fuel system like replacement lines and grommet, a potential carb kit and a new primer bulb. The machine is 18 years old and first belonged to my Uncle who has since passed away.
