I am SO happy I found this video!! I have a 2005 and got stuck in every spot but park this morning when I got to work!! I did what I probably shouldn't have done and shoved it as hard as I could to get it in park. I am supposed to be heading out of town as soon as I leave today and do not have time to go to a mechanic. I was freaking out thinking it was my transmission.
Found it. A spring at the base of shifter arm that you pull back against to shift gears broke. Just a small piece of the broke piece stayed in there and obstructed the shifter arm from coming back far enough to allow into park. pulled out broke piece and everything works fine. hope it works for you if haven't fixed yet.
Did you remove the linkage level off on the Transmission and put it on turned around because the slotted mounting hole is off just enough to make it impossible to shift the tranny in to park the cable could be at it limit. I am looking at mine for that reason right know. Changing over the transmission and replacing parts for one year back from a 1997 to a 1998 could make a differents in distance and reversing the lever could put tyhe lever off by a inch of travel.
@@smizzyizzzy6194 okay this may be a rare one but it wasn't the shift solenoid. It was the spring in the gear selection handle. You know how you have to pull it to you and down to go in gear. We'll my spring wad broke and wouldn't let it go in park or let me take the key out

Need help...did you manage to get it fixed? I have a 2004 GMC and i have the same problem. Disconnected my battery so that it doesn't get flat since its on neutral and the key cannot come out.
aggs dy I ripped the boot on shifter put small screwdriver in un jams the pin it works fine now needs new spring but ok till I have time to pull it apart
I changed A/T Fluid and filter put 3 qts oil then turn on my ignition only shift gears then to my surprised it won’t go to park any suggestions? Pls help 😢
@School Of Hard Nox could be. In my case it was the spring in the gear selector handle that broke. Probably a rate event but I would try to eliminate the shift interlock solenoid and the linkage on the side of the transmission before spending a bunch of money and time

Replace key and it will work mines did the same watching your video got me home puting my car in to neutral thanks hun

How did you get the key out to be able to try another key. With it not going in park you can not get the key out.

Happening to my 2000 blazer i changed the shift linkage and that wasnt it so i hoping this is it.

did you figure out what it was, my 95 Tahoe is doing the same thing and I replaced the shifter cable

It’s the steering column shift mechanism
plastic in steering colum quick change shifter popped off same as my Tahoe
Shift interlock solenoid under the dash if you still have all the other gears working properly
Is that why my 97 chevy k1500 is not going into park but all other gears. Please respond back to me soon.

Joseph Herriman no not yet. I have checked cable and is in good shape from shifter to trans. Still searching.
