  • Installing Gambrel trusses does not have to be difficult or intimidating. It can be easy. Installing a loft floor and notching the openings can make it simple and efficient.

    Very nice. I'm currently building a 14 x 24 underground greenhouse with a gambrel roof. Watching this to pluck up the courage to start raising the trusses!

    I'm in the middle of my first ever Gambrel roof build, finished the trusses just today. I'm braving it all by my lonesome and am learning or relearning stuff as I go along (Thank you UA-cam!). I wish I had found your video a couple of days ago - because I would definitely have purchased an IMPACT DRIVER! Wow! I enjoyed your video more than others, just being a fly on the wall. (or should I say, camera on the helmet?) , and just observing. Nce and relaxed, and the absence of constant and excessive commentary (like so many other "DYI"videos.) was quite refreshing as well! Even got a kick out of your "girls". That was great. Q: What state/city are you located in? The land and sky look beautiful. Nice property.

    should of put rim board all the why around walls. mount rafters to floor. some cat walk floors would of locked those wall together tight.

  • @jonathanolsen7254
    @jonathanolsen7254 2 роки тому

    That was cool, What I am going to do is when I put the truss to the outside walls the rafter tails will sit on the top plate and will be nailed to the top plate then with straps that will be nail to the truss then down the wall 8 inches or so, So if there is another hircine the truss should stay with the walls less the winds are over 120 mph then all bets are off ..The frame work for the floor is a metal 2X6 with 2X6 joist every 2 foot on center the the green plywood on the top of that...

    How wide is this build? I'm doing a 16x32 but instead of the typical truss style with gussets I built the roof like a typical wall, 16" oc and at the angled areas purlin and ridge, I ran basically double "sills" so the whole roof is connected like a wall instead of individually ran like this method. What you think about that?

    What screws were you using?

    • @LancoAmish
      @LancoAmish  3 роки тому +1

      Kevin Clark , sorry for the delay in answering...for some reason I am only alerted on about half the comments. The screws are structural screws that replace lag screws. The were either GRK or HeadLok brand.

      Chuck,
      LOVE your video brother!
      On the structural screws, what lengths did you use?
      Looked like 4", 6"?
      What's length were the ones going upwards through the plates into the Gambrel truss?
      Building my trusses tomorrow for my Mini Gambrel Barn...
      Thank you for sharing!

      @@Hang10boards , if I remember correctly I used 6 inch from the top down and 8 inch from the bottom up. The other ones you saw were 4 inch putting the first truss in but 3 inch could have been used. ( I didn’t have 3 inch on hand). Thanks for watching!

    Seems like it would cost a fortune for all those planks vs using plywood. Although with plywood prices so high now maybe that is no longer true.

    • @LancoAmish
      @LancoAmish  Рік тому

      I like working with planks as they’re easier to handle. The cost is comparable and often times lower than 3/4” plywood.

    Way. Too much unrelated and unnecessary footage not related to barn building. It becomes frustrating at times, otherwise nice instructions.

      @@LancoAmish i enjoy the small breaks from barn building - this channel is new to me but videos like this help me slow down and imagine what life is like for the folks in the video. i really wouldn't change a thing. if there's something i don't want to see i can just skip over it myself, and there are plenty of youtube channels that are moving at a million miles a minute. sometimes it's nice to keep things at a relaxed pace.
