I imagine a kid finding an old box on his grandfathers attic, containing black, plastic rectangles with eyes. At first totally oblivious to the use and meaning of these weird objects. His mother tells the kid what the cassettes are. He gets a new bluetooth cassette player, puts the cassettes in, presses play. The kid never stopped listening.
I just found 7 more cassette tapes that Shawn made for me and i am going to post them. Unfortunately for me and you guys Crafton moved away from Memphis and i can no longer drop by his lair and tell the stories about each song as Shawn told me as he made them for me over the years. Hearing anything from Shawn for the first time is always very moving..
get the tapes to me anytime brother, I know we got someone in Memphis we can trust that can post these. I will gladly jump on my bike and meet halfway when it gets warmer if Im not already down south.
This is so cool! Really looking forward to hearing the rest of these tapes... I love that there's still stuff like this out there that no one has really heard. Thanks again for sharing!
I know it man. It was an emotional roller coaster finding that letter Flexer had sent to Shawn back in 1987 and then to sit there, show that letter to Flex after 30 years and then start transferring those very tapes right in Shawn's very studio. Man....Flex deserves an award, he really does. But this is so cosmic I can't help but feel like Shawn had something to do with it. - CB
We ARE gathering and saving most of those for the documentary but as you see we got the Eric Johnson one up and that killer old radio interview with Jim Dandy. I agree we need to ramp that up and continue making this flame burn brighter. After talking to Flexer earlier and getting his support to launch this series I think we're going to concentrate on that for right now as well as all of the stuff I rescued from Sounds Good but absolutely that is a great idea as usual Brother Al! In fact let's get you on that assignment? -CB
What would be even cooler...LONG interviews with people who knew Shawn! The more info you can dig up, the more facts tend to cross paths and let you separate truth from fiction. Shawn was a genius, but it was his humanity that made his genius all the more spectacular.
@@FloridaManMatty I'm starting to sense another series here guys! lol Good stuff, I agree 100%. I had some back and forth recently with Andy Tanas, Chris Craig and briefly with Kinley. The fish I am searching for is the elusive Billy Batte, Chris C. thinks he is in Florida now, there is a lot of serious knowledge to discuss there. Billy was the keyboardist Shawn mentions in the AIM video as the first he had ever actually seen set up like he was and they really connected on classical on a major major level. Billy Batte deserves a metric TON of recognition in the Shawn narrative. - CB
Shawn Lane I’m in Florida. I’m the Director of Sales and Marketing for a group in St. Augustine. If you’d like, I can start looking for Billy. I’m Not familiar with him so any info you can pass on would be very helpful. Is there an email I can contact you? I’d love to help your efforts here...
@@FloridaManMatty Man, I missed this comment! Diane asked us to make this video private before I had a chance to go back and see this one. My contact is crafton@ericgalesband.com , I DID get a voicemail to Billy recently, I found him on his youtube channel after all these years. But again, thanks for the comment and I apologize for such a delayed response. - CB
is the Savage innocence demo exists somewhere, i'm a die-hard fan of Shawn , have 2 concerts video of him with Black oak, i just seen that in discogs about the existence of demos ?
It does. They did four songs at Ardent Studios and Jim Dandy came in one night and let me transfer it all off of cassette tape. There have been people that posted it out there before, but parts of it get claimed by UMG due to a song being already redone elsewhere. I am working on a work around now. - Crafton
I answered from the Eye Reckon account, I have taken over the brand from the owner and there is no more conflict with the estate and the label that Shawn started. This was his idea to create Eye Reckon Records and is a crucial part of Shawn's legacy. I just wanted to clarify that! - Crafton
Shawn Lane-one of the humblest geniuses to ever walk this earth.

Nice! I wanted to stick with the cassette imagery in the video so that there's a visual sensation just like the one you so poetically described. - CB
That solo from 2.43 until 3.41 is just amazing
what??? it really starts cooking after 3:41

Thanks to Flexer for this.

Amazing
2:18 The best time is starting.
Crafton, what would be cool is to do some short interviews with folks who knew Shawn - cheers
